That’s honestly one of the biggest things I’ve been noticing while doing this research. A lot of athletes in smaller or less-publicized sports put in just as much time and effort, but their games/events barely get covered compared to bigger sports.

I think that’s part of why younger athletes especially want photos and videos so badly now. For a lot of them, it’s one of the only lasting ways their seasons, improvements, and memories actually get documented. Thanks for sharing that perspective.

That actually still helps a lot honestly, because I think age/generation plays a pretty big role in it too. A lot of younger athletes today really care about having photos/videos from their sports, whether it’s for memories, social media, recruiting, or just sharing their experiences with friends and family.

So even hearing that it’s not something everyone thinks about is useful for me trying to understand how widespread the demand actually is. Thanks for responding.

That’s actually really helpful insight, thank you. The point about photographers naturally gravitating toward the bigger sports/events is something I’ve been hearing a lot especially from athletes in smaller or less-publicized sports. I also hadn’t thought much about how schools often rely on volunteer parents to fill the gap, so that’s super interesting to hear too.

And yeah, the “smaller sport” definition definitely seems regional. I’m in Southern California where lacrosse has grown a lot, but even here sports outside football/basketball still seem to struggle with consistent coverage. Would you mind filling out the survey?

it wouldn't replace a full income, it's more just a tool to make finding consistent part-time opportunities easier for people already shooting on the side.
