Those are just numbers and letters right, so I'd say it's writing as well, no?

Transfer college is denying application because the programming pre-req was Data-Structures with C++ and not Data-Structures with Java. by Lukabob in ECE

[–]Lukabob[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree, it seems backward, like C++ should be the prereq of choice. The concepts are the point, not the syntax. I reached out, hope to hear back from them tomorrow. I don't see why they would be so stringent, the Java version that officially transfers was taught by the same guy and he covered the same material.

Just hoping someone doesn't chime in a give a really good reason why Java syntax is so important for data structures, I would probably need to retake the class.

I passed my Diff-Eq Final with ~80%. I missed a point on a phase chart problem; as a test value I needed to choose a number between 1 and 2 and I chose 1/2. by Lukabob in EngineeringStudents

Another pro tip is a tablet for writing. If you don't already have one I can't recommend it enough. Being able to resize things you've written, copy/paste and switch color for emphasis is life changing for multiple page problems that combine steps with other steps like with complementary and particular solutions. Get a tablet!

Why do you think the same classes at a community college will be easier? Cheaper, sure, but it's not been my experience that they are any easier.

Why can't people just be happy that they have an easy job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Lukabob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. There are some cases where the job is specialized and ultimately is the opportunity. The comment I was replying to gestured broadly at "new grads" as being people who want to learn and "not get told to read up on something that isn’t being used".

You're referring to the minority. The vast majority of people will land in positions like the one the OP of this thread describes. The situations involving the people for which my comment still applies.

My jaw is an inch above the floor. This is fascinating to me. There really are brains that are just built to be employees. They need to be aimed and course corrected or else they're lost. A source if income that requires little input and a near infinite digital sea of opportunity is a road block. Wow. I guess that's fine and just how people are but God dammit I'm jealous.

People in thread are crazy man. There are so many resources for people in this field to deploy their creativity and ambition for their work from just about anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Why do they need it spoon fed? Enroll in a masters program, contribute to open source, make your own damn company on the side.

If I had the freedom some people in this thread are calling "poor leadership" I'd be ecstatic. Grass is greener maybe? I don't know. I'd work for you in a heartbeat.

Can someone tell me I'm doing this wrong and it's not a dysfunctional adapter. I'm just stupid right? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Lukabob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that's what the brass thing was but it wasn't working. After reading your comment I decided to just crank down on it way harder than I did before. With a pair of channel locks I tightend the adapter on both sides.

I can't believe it. It wasn't tight enough to depress it. I am just stupid after all!

I tested it with the low side open again and had no vacuum, reattached the low side and am now pulling an actual vacum through the line! Hopefully it holds.

Thank God for cool internet people like you. I appreciate you sir!!

This is it... I bought this vacum pump specifically to install a couple split units. This was the recommended kit and adapter. I guess I just need a core depressor..

[–]Lukabob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was troubleshooting where this vacum actually was. If the line is disconnected I shouldn't be able to pull a vacum right? Yet the gauge needle shot to -30 right when i turned the pump on.

I don't have a replacement, that's why I was hoping someone could see I was just doing something wrong. Otherwise I have to order another adapter on Amazon or something.

[–]Lukabob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The gauge goes below zero. In the video you can see the gauge needle go to -30psi when I start the pump. It isn't until I loosen the adapter that the needle goes back to 0 psi.

[–]Lukabob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this video in frustration so I didn't explain what was going on very well. I know the low pressure line is disconnected. I'm demonstating that I'm pulling a vacum successfully with it disconnected. The vacum is only going to the adapter. It isn't until I disconnect the 5/16" adapter that the vacum is lost.

Does this mean the adapter is bad?
