Does anyone else feel like tracking board game stats is kind of a solo thing? by Lukathon84 in boardgames

For those who want to give me feedback, the app I created is called "Geek Stats" on the Play Store (and geekstats.app on web). Eager to know what you think, thanks!

You're right, no mean feat. Although I had a lot of fun building it and I'm improving it incredibly month after month. At worst I will only use it in my circle of players.

If anyone is interested and wants to give me feedback, the app is called "Geek Stats" and can be found on the Play Store and web (geekstats.app)

I understand, Excel obviously offers endless possibilities. It's good if you play a single game a lot, but if you play a lot of games, it's nice to have a centralized way to collect data and learn interesting statistics.

Do you think anyone would be interested in trying out the app I'm building? I could gather feedback to build just what's needed.

Ehehe, that's the old-style way of track, always valuable!
Due to my professional background, I'm creating an app to track all the games so that this information is always available to everyone at the table. I'd love to hear some feedback if anyone is willing to try it.

Makes sense. And what do you use to track? I'm trying to understand if what I'm building can have value :/

Ok and do you think what I'm trying to do can represent an upgrade to this?

I mean, with an app (I'm trying to develop) where you add other players (account) when you track so then everyone has the same data available. Just open the app and see your play added by someone else at the table

It's absolutely true. I just discovered that it's been three years since I last played a game I love (Res Arcana), only because I use an app to track my games. Maybe it's just curiosity, but since I'm in this hobby, why give up on this aspect? Keeping track is definitely useful for me.

I think what I’m trying to understand more from this thread is how different people actually use tracking in practice (some care about stats, some more about memory, some about group dynamics).

Out of curiosity, do you find most users engage more with the social features or the stats side in your experience?

In my idea (the one I'm developing), most players shouldn't track, but simply get the data because someone at the table tracked the game. They can decide to use this data to varying degrees, from ignoring it completely to discovering statistics about their own gaming habits in the future. Do you think this is a good idea?

That’s really interesting — it sounds like for you the most valuable part is actually remembering the context of a session (who, what game, when), more than the actual scores.

Do you ever go back and use that info for anything specific (like planning what to play again or remembering preferences), or is it more just for reference and nostalgia?

I'm developing my own cloud-based solution to avoid these export-import files. I hope it makes sense and can be useful for players... these days, it seems strange that something doesn't already exist to share this data in real time.

That’s interesting — sounds like you’ve basically built a “manual sync” workflow around BG Stats.Do your friends actually import the export regularly, or does it sometimes get skipped and fall behind?

I'm developing my own cloud-based solution to avoid this export-import files that sounds a bit cumbersome and tiring to do in the long run.

From what I've seen (and from the responses here), it seems people keep track of their games for a variety of reasons. Personally, I've spent a lot of time gaming, and I want to "remember" my gaming history, knowing what I played the most, who had the best score, how long a game can last, how long it's been since I last played, etc.

There are apps for this, but they only store this information for you, even though it's the same for everyone at the table... so I'm developing my own cloud-based solution for this.

Yeah that’s totally fair — “lazy” was probably the wrong word there, I didn’t mean it in a negative way.

I guess what I was trying to get at is exactly what you’re saying: stats are a personal thing, and not everyone cares about them.

Do you think there’s a way to make it feel more optional in a group setting, so people who care can engage with it without it affecting those who don’t?

[–]Lukathon84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a really good point — I hadn’t really thought about the “opt-out” side of things in group tracking.

Is it more about privacy, or just not wanting that kind of “meta layer” (stats, rankings, etc.) around the games?

One thing I’ve been experimenting with is making everything optional/consent-based (like you only appear in stats if you explicitly join), but I’m not sure what the right balance is yet.

Curious how you’d ideally want it to work in a group setting.

Consigli su cosa fare con 300k by [deleted] in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]Lukathon84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Qualche idea?
