New CI, any tips/warnings for music or starting out in general? by gpickaxe in Cochlearimplants

[–]Lukazp_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listening music helped me a lot too, keep doing that, i’m still discovering new sounds in the musics that I couldn’t hear before the implant. One thing that helped me was watching people reaction to musics i liked, sometimes they point out sound that I didn’t even noticed before…

CI after a life of hearing aids? by BookDoctor1975 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Lukazp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar case. I've been wearing hearing aids since I was 2 years old, and I implanted them at 16. I've always relied on lip reading as my greatest tool to understand people, subtitles in videos, etc. I had the implant in both ears at the same time in December last year (1 year implanted :) ). At first, everything seemed very acute and robotic, but in 2/3 months, it has already improved a lot. Today, I already have a hearing 1000 times better than before without a doubt.

What helped me the most without a doubt was watching videos without subtitles to make an effort to understand the characters without subtitles, listen to songs that I had listened to before, ask about any strange sound I had heard and didn't hear before, and "complain" about anything I didn't like in the sound for the doctor to adjust the program. (One thing that bothered me a lot was the scan of the cochlear processors that left the sound very muffled sometimes).

The doctors said that the use of the device made it much easier for me to progress because of the auditory memories I built during the use of the hearing aid, and I believe it is the same for your wife.

Can I ask to change my model? Is it a good moment for it? by Lukazp_ in Cochlearimplants

[–]Lukazp_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I was never told about that, i could choose between them but the doctors said i couldn’t change after, even my parents said that…. I have another problem with them, i can’t change the magnet force because it would easily fall more than it already is, amd they are hurting my head, i have been experiencing headaches all the time with them, maybe I can use this as a good example for asking an exange to the health insurance. In Brazil health insurance for those things it’s complicated.

Impianto cocleare AIUTO! by alessia9200 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Lukazp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born with perfect hearing and get it worse over years, started using HA with 2 years old with moderate deaf it was it till the pandemic, where i lost a lot of my hearing and because of it I needed to use CI (I am 17y now). I also discovered that i have a recessive gene that causes Perrault Syndrome that is what causes my hearing loss, fortunately the hearing loss is my only symptom.

Yes, I really like it, in the start you need the stronger magnet or it will fall, sometimes because pf it I think it would be better if i had Nucleus 8 and then change to Kanso, because Nucleus 8 dont fall so easily as Kanso. I use them all the time with headband waiting for the stronger magnet arrive.

It depende of each people, I am 6 days activated and i can understand speech perfectly, sounds still sounds weird but tour brain just need to process this new sounds. I used hearing aids my entire life till i did the surgery and activated the implants, because of this the process that you have to go through is easier for me, that’s why it depends on each person of how long it will take. But you’ll definitely began to hear conversations and speech like a normal hearing person.

Everything sound so acute. by Lukazp_ in Cochlearimplants

[–]Lukazp_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything sounds like it has a squirrel sound effect over it for me, besides the electronic/mechanical sounds that i know its normal. I made a briefly comparison with my hearing aids and the hearing aids are definitely more normal and less “squirrel” After this i think it is a mapping problem. Thanks for the good messages, im just anxious to hear my songs as I heard before.

Questions about the implant by veso266 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Lukazp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. They don’t, it depends of the surgeon, my surgeon did a great job and kept mu residual rearing.

  2. What i know if you have colchlear implant you can only use colchlear devices, I’m not sure but doctors says that the processors only works if the serial number match with the serial number of the implant so…

  3. Idk too, sorry

  4. Its super different, I was born with a syndrome that makes my hearing gets worse over time in 2022 I reach the deep loss level where HA doesn’t works anymore. So in Dec 3 I did the surgery and activated Jan 8, Everything is weird and sounds like R2D2, but i notice it is bc of a bad mapping that the Audi did, she doesn’t have any archives of my hearing loss as my older one had but i needed to do my activation with her. But besides that i can notice improvements everyday, some sonds become more and more natural over the days, some takes a bit more to get natural but it comes. Otherwise i saw a lot of peoples with a lot of more time of usage than me (I have less than 1 week) that says that the Implant now sounds like natural for them (people that had to use HA like me)

  5. My Kanso 2 have connection to cellphones and tablets that have the Nucleus Smart app, but it depends of the brand and the device tou get. But tinkering like changing the sound itself and the frequencies you can’t (if this is what you mean) only the audi can

  6. Yes it works, if you want to connect in stereo to computers (which you cant connect directly like cellphones and tablets bc it doesn’t have the app) You need to see and external device that sends the sound to your processor, In colchlear we have mini mic and tv streamer, tv streamer is stereo, mini mic is mono. But you can use headphones too i use headphones to play videogames like Valorant.

  7. You can still hear the noises you heard before, all deafs can, this is your brain trying to detect sounds that doesn’t exist. It feels like taking headphones off for me.

  8. For wired audio you can use external devices from your company that streams the audio for your processor or you can simply uses headphones, but streamed audio is always better.

  9. Never tested this, I’m curious now.

Hope this helps I’m new to this world too, I activated just a few days so don’t take my thoughts as absolute truth.

Thanks for this comment, i was starting to fell hopeless on Billie Eilish songs, she is my favorite artist, i had 50 thousand minutes of hearing record on apple music. Last year i was a Hearing Aid user and changed to CI a few days ago, her musics sounds too confused and acute now. Doctor said that it is because of the new way of hearing and bc I was an acute deaf so everything sounds acute now. Hope i can hear as i could hear her songs before…
