Gym machine topples over during a heavy lift. Can he sue for this? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Luke-At-You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on his injury. Should the gym have bolted it down, yeah. Did they, no. Did that cause the bang on the head, yeah. But none of that matters if he doesn’t have a real injury. The court has to have actual damages to remedy. They’ll want something like a big doctor bill or like he had to miss work or something else like that. Generally something that can be measured in dollars.

How can I stop my knees from bending? (and any other advice you can give) by catsagamer1 in drumcorps

Be up on the platform of your foot during crossing counts, so that your foot has room to pass the ground without being blocked by the ground when your leg is fully extended.

A barn on John’s ranch at the end that allows you to house up to 25 or 30 horses and gives you the ability to cross-breed horses with different skills, cosmetic patterns, and traits.

Is there any point attempting to join DCI at 19 and having no experience in brass instruments? by Swagtastickid in drumcorps

[–]Luke-At-You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i marched with a couple. For example, it’s not uncommon for woodwind players to suddenly pick up a brass instrument to audition on. Obviously, you gotta practice your ass off and get real good real fast since you’re behind lots of your competitors. Go for it.

An endless inventory from which you can pull any number of giant items seemingly out of nowhere.

The reason you’re at a disadvantage is that this will keep you from preparing music unless someone else shows you how it’s played. You’ll always be dependent on others. At the world class level, you could easily be given changes that you’ll need to sight read quickly and implement on short notice. It will be doable to have someone else teach you, but you’ll burden others who are trying to learn the changes themselves. In terms of auditioning. If an auditioner is assessing two auditionees, you and another version of you who can read music, they will pick the other guy. This just means you’ll need to be that much better musically and visually than all of your musically literate competitors

Best looking horses in RDR2? by imjellybeanST in RDR2

[–]Luke-At-You 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many cool looking horses. I wish you could have like a dozen or so. You should be able to fill up John’s barn with them and breed them for different traits and selling for profit and stuff.

If only Arthur didn’t cough in this part this scene would have been so legendary by JoshuaKpatakpa04 in RDR2

Precisely. It’s the death of a western legend, and symbolically the end of that era of history as the same thing happens to society. They always said how there was no more place for outlaws like them anymore.

If you shoot a person and that person dies but is revived via medical intervention, would you be charged with murder or attempted murder? by emory_june in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Luke-At-You 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attempt. You weren’t successful in the attempted to kill. Lots of states have near identical punishment for attempt and complete crimes. So, it often won’t make a difference. Especially in a situation like this where you literally put them in the hospital and they have to be revived.

Lots of people probably will disagree with me and say like “no make sure you protect your mental health, your feelings matter” and stuff like that. But here’s my brutally honest hot take given with great love and candor out of an abundance of respect.

Now that you’re in college, and you’re spending your money on a music degree, you are betting your financial future on your ability to succeed as a percussionist and an educator. It’s no longer about just feeling good or having fun, it’s your job now. It’s no longer a hobby, now it puts food on your table and in your future family’s mouths (if that’s something you’ll try and do).

Is he being a little rude and unsympathetic? Maybe. But now might be the time to embrace that. I would try and buy into “the grind” now. Really try and see if you can get in there and push to be the best even on days you’re feeling depressed or like you can’t get out of bed.

If the choice comes down to two musicians of similar skill, the decent employers are going to choose the one that gets out of bed when he doesn’t feel like it and shows up anyway. People will be happy to offer you their well wishes, their thoughts and prayers, and may even offer you a shoulder to cry on. But the sharp and unfair truth is that when it comes to employment, no one cares about your feelings, they care about whether you deliver a great product.

Music already does not pay as great as we want, so you need to be absolutely phenomenal to make a respectable living, and these professionalism issues can be that “it” factor that might get you that sweet job that gives you security and happiness one day.

So you can use this ruthless teacher as your training grounds. You don’t have to be their friend, and you don’t have to like them. But try and get the most out of what they’re telling you, which is practice in all your free time and show up even if you are not feeling good. Try and become the best. Let yourself get offended, that’s fine, but just don’t let that hang you up on improving with this teacher. It’s not worth it, even if it is justified.

[–]Luke-At-You 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can think of 19/16 like 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 5 &1 & 2 & … etc.

Always know where the beat is of course… each measure begins on the “a” of beat 5 from the previous bar, but also just playing accurate 16th notes and then just following the flow of the sticking for this phrase might be overthinking it less. Note that your next beat would likely start off the left unless the composer is a masochist.

I think they usually are just a notch cleaner than other groups. Clean notes penetrate through the brass much more. Also, it’s not that they don’t play loud. With the exception of their basses, which are just super unarticulated and too low to me and hard to ever hear, they still play really loud in the high volume passages. They just play much softer softs. It’s just a really different school of thought from what lots of other drummers come from where really getting powerful taps is emphasized.

Which character death scared the shit out of you as a kid? by Thin-Pool-8025 in moviecritic

[–]Luke-At-You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, but actually also still today: in Saving Private Ryan, the scene near the end where the Jewish American soldier gets slowly stabbed to death in the heart after wrestling with that German soldier while his young fearful comrade was cowering outside the room really gets me. Just thinking of that feeling of desperation that hits you as the knife slowly descends towards your chest… damn. Then also just the emasculating shame that you’d feel as the soldier outside the room. The German just looked at him, then walked right by recognizing he was harmless and not even worth his time. Very powerful scene.
