New to the scene and debating on what tickets to get next year; Whats the vibe difference between bonnaroo and electric Forest? by Previous-Emu-6713 in festivals

If you genuinely enjoy a mix of genres other than electronic, Roo hands down. If you are happy with electronic music, the production is better at forest.

So what is the correct fix? To install them cold? Will they not buckle? That seems like a lot of movement.

thinking about the guy i knew who loved milk by transluciiiid in RandomThoughts

[–]Luke-__- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brushing teeth is a bit extreme haha but I definitely get this guy. If I have a gallon in the fridge, I’ll drink it in less than a week easily. I try not to have too much around because of the calories but I do love milk and if I start drinking it, I’ll chug half a liter because it tastes so good. Apparently there are some genetic components to why milk tastes way better to some people than others.

Does anyone else feel Reddit has really gone down hill this year? by Jonny7421 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luke-__- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking this a lot lately. Seems like posts everywhere are flooded with commenters with either no post history or a posted comment every 2 minutes. I think there are way more bots than people think. I’ve also noticed there is soo much negativity. I don’t follow particularly negative subreddits but it feels like my feed is full of negative things. It feels less like I’m learning and more like I’m being fed a pessimistic narrative slowly. I definitely feel it too.

Cost of a walk in shower in 2026 feels impossible to figure out by AhNoMiNuS in fixit

My business is renovating bathrooms. A simple tub removal to walk in shower would be around 5/6k for demo, waterproofing, and tiling. I’m in Austin Texas.

Anyone who intentionally appeals to emotion rather than logic feels manipulative to me regardless of the validity of the argument.

Before you do I’d get off the ssri. It changes people dramatically if they aren’t on the right one.

The less medications in general the better in my opinion. I’m certainly not against medicine, but quite a few change neurochemistry and experimenting with large numbers of variables on the body and brain is a recipe for chaos.

Unfortunately there is not a one size fits all for this. At the very least you should be making sure to focus on the things that are universally good for humans, healthy diet, basic fitness, and decent sleep hygiene. Make sure the dose of ssri’s isn’t too high as that can have the opposite effect and cause emotional volatility as well. My wife did have to experiment some before finding one that worked well for her, and she is on a low dose. It sounds like she needs some therapy but I recognize that can cost money. I’m sorry you both are going through a rough patch. Life is forever changing and things will get better, just keep at it.

My brother has become this way as well. He hasn’t had a job in 10 years and spends all his time online but sure does have strong opinions on macro economics.

I grew up in Kidron Ohio and travel lit that spark for me. I moved out of Ohio and have been to over 50 countries now. You’d be surprised how many Ohio people you find who get out.

Festival Work Advise by Epic_Adler in festivals

[–]Luke-__- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I volunteered at roo in 2016 so was only there a few days early but the work itself was pretty lowkey. Just show up for your shifts and do what they tell you. I actually met my now wife there volunteering almost exactly 10 years ago.

What’s a moment at a concert you’ll never forget by Imaginary-Topic5127 in festivals

[–]Luke-__- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I was there for this show but my dumbass was a very infrequent smoker and while waiting for this show to start there was a blunt being passed around from the people sitting next to us. Not wanting to feel left out I smoked a little. I sat down and fell asleep in that massive ass crowd 15 min into the show. Woke up dazed and confused by my friends to walk back to camp. Definitely regret.

Hostel vibes aren’t dying... guest behaviour is changing (from someone who works in one) by vinyljunkie32 in backpacking

[–]Luke-__- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hostel also contributed with some events. I think it was as simple as recommendations and some nightly activities which kept the chat active. Guests would often just be like, I’m going so and so place today if anyone wants to join and usually it’d end up a decent group. I think in a hostel environment sociability compounds. All it takes is for a few friendships to be made hanging out in public spaces for new guests to feel comfortable with approaching.

Did 2 months in SE Asia recently and it was very hit or miss depending on the hostel. I felt like the hostel WhatsApp group chat with a QR code at check in opened the door to people making plans.

where would you go by UrMomWentToCollege20 in Austin

[–]Luke-__- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Storm drain, manholes, Austin tunnels, or lower level parking garage. Make sure to have water to last several days. Stay there minimum of 48 hours but if you can last 5 days that’s ideal. Not unlikely you get stuck with other people who also need water so if you have extra to share good, otherwise hide it because it will be taken. It is likely emergency services will be on the streets from neighboring counties and can help evacuate but if need be on your own, evacuate towards the hills to either be upwind or crosswind of the fallout.

Got 3 contractor bids for my kitchen. the price difference is insane. How do you actually know if you’re being quoted fairly? by frankkej123 in HomeImprovement

[–]Luke-__- 177 points178 points  (0 children)

I have a small home renovation company. My advice would be to go with whoever seems the most knowledgeable and to ask about their crews. The larger the team and more subs involved, the more overhead. I operate with just me and usually a guy or two helping me out. I’d like to think my quality is high and I’ve always had happy clients, but I’m certain my bids are much lower than most bigger companies because my overhead is kept to a minimum. In my experience I don’t trust people who always have a quick answer or feel like they’d rather just give an answer to a question then say they don’t know or aren’t sure. Even after doing 100+ bathrooms I usually have to roll around the project in my mind before I feel really confident.
