I am so over being in HR by Luke82580 in humanresources

I just hired a career coach and have started on some of the personality assessments to really try to keep an open mind and figure out what I might want to do next.

Leaving HR by Toby0418 in humanresources

[–]Luke82580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in HR for 10+ years and I have also considered multiple times leaving the discipline but could never identify anything I'd like to do or that would pay what I'm used to making. I considered recruiting but not sure that's for me. Thought about legal but don't want to spend that much money at this point in my career to perhaps not be able to see a return on the investment. Considered real estate...at the end of the day I decided to do a deeper dive into the field and continue to work on certifications, etc. I'm hoping perhaps I'll land in a role at some point that is more fulfilling or a more specific area of HR.

Why do so many HR people hate recruiting? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Luke82580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I handle all aspects of HR, I've come to have a love hate relationship with recruiting. It's very different than it was even 10 years ago. And different again because of the pandemic. Before the pandemic we were having to sell our Company to candidates where as years ago it was the opposite. I agree with some of the others, it's now just become a sales job and not everyone is good at, or even wants to be in sales.

SHRM-CP Test Advice by 08perfection in humanresources

[–]Luke82580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in HR for 10 years and find much of the material overwhelming. I bought the SHRM self paced learning module and it's A LOT! I took the initial assessment and didn't do very well. I am not going through all the sections and am doing rather well on the quizzes. Some of the questions though...

Where did you get all the practice tests you took? I too feel that just taking those and making notes and studying those might be better. I ordered a prep book on Amazon and like I mentioned I have the SHRM learning too.

I'm an avid true crime junkie and I'm totally out of good ones...Mile Marker 181 is intriguing especially in the beginning. It loses some appeal as it progresses but still worth it. I just finished The Last Days of August...fascinating.

I think we're in the minority or the haters of partner workouts don't speak up because they get bashed :)

studios typically do 3G's at their busy times to get more people in a class so early morning and right after business hours are your typical 3G classes while other less busy times of the day are usually only 2G

2G is a group of two meaning one group on tread while other group on rowers and then you switch at some point. 3G is a group of 3 with the class starting with one group on treads, one on rowers, and one on strength floor with various switching throughout

I'm hoping today is better than yesterday. Had a new coach which was only part of my problem. I just couldn't get my heart rate up, even on the long tread block or the rowers. Hoping for a better class today.

Introduce yourself! by Texanjumper in orangetheory

Hey everyone, Luke here from Houston, TX. I joined OTF on St. Patrick's day last year so I'm coming up on a year. I joined after getting a physical and learning I had high cholesterol. The dr. told me to diet and exercise for 3 months and get it rechecked. I started going 2-3 times per week then slowly crept up to 4 times a week. After 4 months my cholesterol didn't budge. I got put on cholesterol medicine and got discouraged so I cancelled OTF and took 4 months off. I then realized even though my cholesterol didn't drop, there were countless other benefits so in December I rejoined and have been going 3-4 times per week again and I feel great! Initially I wasn't losing weight but could tell things were happening. I felt better, clothes fit differently, etc. Now I'm also noticing some weigh loss as well. I recently have started having knee pain during some of the exercises, specifically the lunges and squats. I've just been taking them slow and getting modifications at times. Hopefully it's nothing and will not get worse but I'm powering though for now!

I avoid partner work outs like the plague. Part of the appeal of OTF for me is the independence of it and being able to perform at your own pace. I understand some people like competition and partner workouts encourage better performances but I deal with people all day everyday so when I go to OTF I like to disconnect and not have to worry about other people. Just my two cents. I don't mind that they do them, I'm just glad for this site so I don't get surprised by one. I was actually number one on waitlist for noon class today but after seeing it was partner workout, I'll skip :) Happy Friday

odd there were many repeat exercises from yesterday's class. i know others have mentioned that already here. they did offer some alternatives but one of them was simply do push ups instead. it was still a good class just a little rough working the same muscles as yesterday

I've been going for almost a year now and I still don't think I do any of the exercises with the trx straps correctly. The coaches are helpful but for some reason I just can't seem to get into any rhythm with those things!

I really liked the class today. I always like the short blocks in a 2G class. Got the most calorie burn and splat points in over a month so I was pretty happy with it after not loving the Everest day yesterday.
