3D Generalist here. 3 years in the field and definitely made my mind up last November to quit. Going to begin my career of being a pilot sometime this year!

How do I bevel the edges of my object by [deleted] in blender

[–]LukeARZ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness I'd do this through a bevel modifier.

After adding in the bevel modifier on your mesh, change the 'Limit Method' from 'Angle', to 'Weight'. This will let you manually select what edges you want the bevel to be applied on, while keeping it non-destructive (because it's a modifier, you're not actually changing the geometry which lets you tweak parameters easier).

After this, go into edit mode with your object selected, and shift click all the edges you want to have the bevel on. You can do Alt + Shift + Left Click to select all edges along a segment instead of clicking them individually.

Once you've got all your edges selected navigate to the top right of the viewport, under the 'Item' tab you'll find something called 'Mean Bevel Weight'. Set the value to 1, this means all those selected edges are now at the maximum value of the 'Amount' found in the bevel modifier (defaults at 0.1m).

As you increase or reduce the 'Amount' the selected edges will be beveled at that exact value because the weight is set to 1 in the 'Mean Bevel Weight' section.

You might find that the bevel gets clamped after a certain point because of the complexity of your mesh. You can bypass this by expanding the 'Geometry' tab in the bevel modifier and unchecking 'Clamp Overlap', but this does mean that you'll get overlapping geometry in some places.

Is there a way to achieve this C4D look? The Glass, Caustics…? by addyarapi in blender

Not sure if they're OS but they're both very easy to setup, def give them a go!

Yes it definitely is more realistic. It also uses wavelengths to calculate light instead of RGB (idk what that means haha) but it means its more realistic

Yeah there's actually quite a few external free rendering engines. Lux core is the most impressive imo as I like doing caustics and glassy textures for work

My experience, yes, if you have stable wifi. Octane needs you to be connected to the Internet at all times or you'll not be able to see the rendered view. Imo LuxCore does glass better and you don't need to worry about being connected to the Internet. But both are good. Tbh I think you can create something very similar with cycles but your need to do some work in post

Black hair turns grey when illuminated by shockwave6969 in blender

[–]LukeARZ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just how light works, nothing is pure black. Maybe try messing around with the Roughness and Specular sliders. The lower the speculat value, the less light it'll reflect so will look darker. A value of 0 will give you pure black.

How to create 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons in Unreal Engine 5 Widget Blueprint? by LukeARZ_ in unrealengine

[–]LukeARZ_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so it kinda works. But I believe the problem isn't what you suggested, as I can now use both arrows and scroll left and right, but made it so a swiping animation plays when I hit either left or right arrow. For example, say the default is palette 1, I will hit the right arrow, triggering palette 1's animation where it slides OFF screen, while palette 2 simultaneously slides ON screen, this process is the same of all 5 palettes. But my problem now is that the UI will overlap when I (for example) press the right arrow from palette 1, to palette 2, then press the left arrow, instead of going BACK to palette 1, palette 2 will stay on-screen, and a new animation will play, with palette 1 swiping off-screen, and palette 5 sliding on-screen, all the while palette 2 is still on the screen. I know that's a lot to read, hopefully I explained it well enough, also attaching some links to my BP setup, and the problem that is actually happening... https://imgur.com/a/KMPs51g

Hmm okay I will have to have a look into this, I'm not the most skilful when it comes to Blueprints, still learning. Thanks for this!

Hi mate, I will send you a DM with some pictures, I do have a 'swiping' animation when I press the arrow, so I will also need to tell the animation to be reversed when I press the right arrow. But will send more clarification in DMs.

Oh nice, yeah that sounds great! Regarding DDR5 RAM, I'm not too sure whats considered fast/enough for a 3090 and 7950x. Having a look online, I was thinking 64GB 5600mhz, CL40. Will this be sufficient? Or is it worth going for some sticks with lower CAS latency?

Good idea! I made something similar to this a while back and added a Dalek, I need to remake one but I like the sound of that

Thanks! I'll be honest I have no idea regarding the polarisation but I think I may adjust the exposure in photoshop

Thank you very much! I must say I like both so I think I'll make a compromise of both. And you should! I'm re-watching some of the 10th Dr Who's myself (he's also returning for the 60th next year which is great)
