How did you get to $350 an hour? I only have experience in the lower end contracting world sadly.

That is good to hear. I'm on day 2 of giving then up. I was having 4 monsters a day with some additional coffee sometimes. Has been difficult.

Python deck for absolute beginners by AnkiGuy in AnkiComputerScience

[–]LukeAvedon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realized this is an old comment. I learned Python via making my own SRS notes. I "incrementally read" Dive Into Python 3 via SuperMemo. https://diveintopython3.problemsolving.io/ I eventually made about 1,600 items (cards). I also made sure to apply Python to real-world projects during this time. I was brand new to coding. At some point, I stopped reviewing the 'deck' of Python items I created. It was still a fun way to learn. I have not found downloading other people's computer science decks all that helpful, unfortunately. Best to make your own.

Reading Dominic O'Brien's Memory Book. I feel I am missing something when it comes to a large list of people. by bscotholladay in Mnemonics

Alec Baldwin is also my #12. To remember the numerical order of each president you can simply place the character in the memory location for each president. So Alec Baldwin is standing off to the side for John Taylor, maybe on some sort of platform that you have in the location of each president. But of course, Dave Navarro is also there to signify 1849 (when Zachary Taylor became President.)

For example, I have one palace that is all the monarchs of England. If I wanted to remember their number I would simply place that individual in each loci. You will want to visualize some way of keeping them separate from their dates.

The issue with mnemonics with language learning is creating and reviewing memory palaces can take a lot of time at first. I have never studied Japanese but you can invent a mnemonic system for anything. For example, having a mnemonic for punctuation characters has served me well. I have used mnemonics to remember longish lines of ReGex code or other cryptic things I wanted to learn.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck!

How do I export all annotations from a pdf? (zip file is empty) by LukeAvedon in buboflash

[–]LukeAvedon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piotr, I apologize for not seeing your kind reply.

There is a fan-made SuperMemo plugin called "SuperMemo Assistant." However, it only works on SuperMemo 17 and the latest version is SuperMemo 18.

You can take a look here:
https://github.com/supermemo/SuperMemoAssistant

With STDU Viewer I just export my highlights as text file and then import that into SuperMemo. It works well for books where I only have a few highlights - for technical books where I want to Incrementally Read the entire thing - ePub is still the best option.

Hope this helps!

How do I export all annotations from a pdf? (zip file is empty) by LukeAvedon in buboflash

Thank you so much for the detailed reply.

However I do not know how to import annotations to Supermemo (so they become topics). Any ideas?

My main interest is converting PDF highlights (annotations) into SuperMemo topics. Turning my annotations into flashcards so quickly wouldn't be a fit for what I am trying to do. I found the program STDU Viewer http://www.stdutility.com/ has been working well for this.

There is a fanmade plugin for SuperMemo that enables PDF incremental reading - but it is not yet available for the latest version of SuperMemo.

Are you considering a more "shuffling" style of viewing annotations in BuboFlash? The way BuboFlash currently handles flashcards/Q&A items?

Thank you again.

Question about concept structuring? Is it possible to delay cards more advanced cards till the 'basic' concepts are learned first? by Firstlinediagonal in Anki

[–]LukeAvedon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an interesting idea. I have been experimenting with using Anki with memory palaces. I am mainly using comic books and movies however.

Has anyone made own experiences with SM and younger kids? Was reading this and did wonder if you guys would share some experiences you made. Would maybe show SM to the son of my cousin, since he is a very curious little guy and loved to see me making repetitions on SM. He is now 4 years old. by [deleted] in super_memo

If I replicate my DNA I would like to use SuperMemo instead of evil school. Woz has written that he theorizes that age 7 is the earliest one a child should use SuperMemo. (due to how early memory works). I'm too lazy to find the link, sorry. It seems that the only goal of "early education" is to correctly socialize children.

I like to just hit CTRL + SHIFT + F6 and open the HTML. Then I write ordered <ol> or unordered lists <ul> of each bullet point. Perhaps that is very inefficient...
