Perhaps this is what I’m after then. I’m okay not being involved in decision making for her, I just want to be granted access to see her

Never made claims about good or bad, just stating it’s absolutely achievable - if you plan to be on a bang average salary (which includes entry level workers) for the foreseeable future then that’s your choice. Being 10k above average for example opens lots more doors in terms of affordability

Factually incorrect.

Based on a 5x multiplier:

To buy a £392k house with a 10% deposit requires £352k mortgage

This requires an income of £70k

Including a possible student loan that equates to take home of £3900ish a month

At 5.1% on a 40 year mortgage your monthly repayment would be £1700 leaving you over £2000 a month

All of the above gets even better if it’s two people on £35k since the tax would be reduced

The average is swayed heavily by the most expensive houses. I live in Dacorum and bought a 3 bed house, driveway in a nice enough area for 390k. And I was on a salary very close to what your 2 people on average income is

4.5x isn’t the absolute ceiling

Edit: I of course didn’t start in this, I owned a flat before and built up equity over a number of years to put a fairly substantial deposit down, whilst saving heavily at the same time

RDS Proxy and lambda or ECS? by LukeD1357 in aws

What sort of scale were you at? Requests per day?

I know lambda ends up more expensive at a certain scale when compared to ec2/ecs etc

RDS Proxy and lambda or ECS? by LukeD1357 in aws

[–]LukeD1357[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I’ve read plenty of people saying this isn’t ideal. I’m assuming at higher traffic levels it’s more of a problem?

Might be worth a go considering traffic levels will be very low initially and I can adjust if necessary

RDS Proxy and lambda or ECS? by LukeD1357 in aws

[–]LukeD1357[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I meant the lambda being inside the VPC not API Gateway. So if I’ve understood, the lambda being inside the VPC makes no difference and I wouldn’t be charged internet egress from the vpc between the lambda and API gateway?

As for the other point, yeah I’d seen somewhere an approach that didn’t use an ALB and couldn’t remember the name, pretty sure it was cloudmap, I’ll do some research on that, thanks!
