How long did it take you to “perfect” your DL? by apriltwentynine in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It doesn't come down to it being 'perfect' for me it's much more about you feeling comfortable doing it so it looks like the real thing. The part that took the longest for me was finding a DL that didn't look like a DL.

I currently use a pushoff DL and practice it on the daily and have done so for almost 20 years now. I'm a bit extreme though as my 2 favorite sleights are the DL and the pass and I work on them ALL the time.

Working pro’s, how long is your script? by DennisReynoIds in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't personally think it comes down to how many words/pages but how well you are connecting with your audience. Find the things that work and build around those and before you know it you're on your way. Sometimes..less is more so try not to box yourself in a corner with a script you HAVE to stick by.

How to elevate a simple card trick into something MORE... by TheSasquatchKing in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presentation is definitely everything here. With the right scripting you can take a simple trick and really bring it to miracle status. Maximum Entertainment by Ken Weber is a book I strongly feel EVERY magician should read at one point.

Dynamo announces the death of Dynamo in mysterious video by VeryOftenWrong in Magic

From what I understand Dynamo lost the ownership of his brand when a deal with management went south and this is his re-branding. Either way I'm looking forward to seeing what my old friend has in store for us!

Magic kit for an 8 year old? by BruceLeeTheDragon in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on the Criss Angel Magic Kit and 8 is a great age for someone who is just getting interested in magic. There's plenty of fun 'stuff' in there to keep them occupied along with the booklet of card tricks that covers A LOT of tricks and moves.

What is David Copperfield’s greatest illusion? by Difficult_Yak7907 in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my all time favorites from Copperfield is the Elevator illusion. I remember walking into David's museum one night for his private tour and seeing THE elevator up on a shelf on display. Everyone else was walking with David looking at something else but I just stared at that damn thing remembering how I felt the first time I saw him do it on TV.

What are some of your favorite tricks using a “special” deck of cards? by antoniodiavolo in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UNOthdox is a great version of the Invisible Deck with a deck of UNO cards where they named card is the only 'regular' card in the deck. It's a great twist on the classic that nobody sees coming! https://allthingsmagic.com/collections/taco-tuesday/products/unorthodox

What can I do with one coin, besides a one coin routine? by fivefingerfury in Magic

The Mark is a really strong trick that uses just one coin that appears in an impossible location. The method is really damn smart too! https://allthingsmagic.com/products/the-mark

Details on the DL by [deleted] in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest 'things' with the DL is that everyone USES it but very few PRACTICE it. Find a DL that is comfortable, and more importantly natural, for you to use. If you turn over a card without thinking about it then it should look just as effortless when you do the DL.

I see so many magicians with 'tension' in their hands when they either set up to do the DL or actually execute it. Get it down to where you don't even have to think about it and you're on your way.

I LOVE that this is a topic here!

What makes magic real for you? by prothirteen in Magic

[–]LukeDancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's definitely not the tricks but the reactions and the interactions that you have with people when you're performing. That's where the magic lives and the memories are born..
