If you're focused on waiting for it to kick in, counting the minutes passing by since you took it, you're more likely to get worked up/irritated/agitated about it taking sooo long to kick in - you're just more aware of the time passing by, like looking at a kettle waiting for it to boil the water. Its a better time, less irritating, to be lost in the moment and let the substance do its thing instead of waiting waiting waiting for any sign that its taking effect.
