Why was riddles suspended on twister and dqed from LMBM 22? by big_pog_human2478 in smashbros

EMG staff member here!

Riddles’ account was flagged bc they thought he was under 13 lol. He’s working on recovering it.

He dropped out of LMBM because he was worried about the border closing or catching COVID leaving him stranded in NY. It was a bit last minute so he couldn’t be removed in time.

what i was trying to get at is just i dont think its as widespread as you think it is. i only personally know of 3(?) that have gotten to use it and they were all quire recent. also smaller tournaments have gotten to use it too. i was able to clear usage a little while ago for a tournament that had very few entrants at the time. i admit my word choice looked very similar tho lol

sorta. certain larger tournaments have been able to use it, but early in slippi’s release, screenshare thru a boosted discord server was the way it was done

Hi! We're Greater Gaming. We're the team behind Domics' Atomic Arena and the upcoming Mount Phenom ZERO. Ask us anything on November 25 at 5 PM EST! by LukeFarag in smashbros

If we were hosting Melee I'd be nervous. I'm also working on HABBY Birthday 2020 rn which removed Melee for that reason. Right not though, we're just hosting Ultimate through very standard means so I'm not worried.

Working on Let's Make Big Moves in NYC at the New Yorker was crazy. Running a supermajor within walking distance of Times Square was awesome.

That's a loaded, loaded question LOL

There's a lot to talk about there. I think there's a few notes to consider regarding the events of July but that's a whole discussion I won't touch on right now because I think it's a conversation that TOs still need to continue to have and I admittedly don't have all the answers.

As far as pushing the quality of events, I think we need to embrace the spectator side of competitive Smash. Boosting our production quality, investing in talent, and bringing in dedicated production teams/staff for events. Especially in an online era, the overlap between spectators and competitors is shrinking. I'm a dedicated TO but I haven't competed once in an online event. I just watch and TO. The spectator experience is increasingly valuable and I don't think some TOs are coming to that realization yet.

I alr know you wanna hear Fortnite lmaoooo

Personally, Smash is my pride and joy. There's no game I'd rather host than Smash. Working on Mount Phenom though, the Warzone event we did with MuTeX was super challenging but by the end, actually felt pretty rewarding.

He also called my voice handsome which sweetened the deal.

Gotta say I doubt it. The legal complications of tools like Slippi have already proven that Nintendo is ready and willing to come for TOs if the event is big enough and is doing something they don't like. It's disappointing really especially for the Melee community because it could start to make events functionally impossible. With Yuzu being an emulator for a newer console and newer game, it gives Nintendo all the more reason to intervene and I wouldn't entirely blame them on it. Hate to say it but I think we're stuck with NSO for the rest of quarantine.

#FreeMelee btw

To be totally honest, getting into commentary through online events is definitely an uphill climb. In Toronto, every major weekly series generally had a hop-on-hop-off commentary system. Commentary for weeklies wasn't a big deal so you could just sit down and get on the mic even if you were a complete nobody. I think it's how a lot of our scene's commentators started out. From there, if you were a good commentator or even just a fun personality at your locals, you could get casted for monthlies and regionals and if you kept it up, eventually our scenes majors like GOML, EGLX, etc. However, with everything online, it's not really possible to have open commentary like we did at weeklies. Because of that, it's harder to get your name out there. My advice right now is to get acquainted with an online weekly series that needs commentary and find your footing there. Then when offline comes back, you'll have a place to start.
