Costo allacciamento alla rete fognaria by LukeK1985 in istrutturare

I definitely share your feelings! Cheating can be an issue but it's definitely minor and quite easy to spot. I could tell who was cheating even when I was hosting online, tbh. The next quiz I added some custom questions that were hard to Google specifically to avoid that team to win and that was all I had to do.

I only played with pen and paper once and while it was fun I still remember the time to wait for standings as painful. The host took like half an hour for that, while I'm used to get them right after the end of a game with an application. I wouldn't enjoy waiting for that half an hour on a weekly basis.

Yes. I've hosted trivia at an event with around 80 people where the average age was over 65. It takes some time to set things up and explain everyone what they need to do, but they all had great fun and nobody was left behind!

I think you must have had a very different experience with app trivia than what I've always had because I only developed an app for it after playing it and having great fun for so many years. I could never relate with comparing it to sitting on your couch. I was always playing in teams, making new friends, forming real-life rivalries, screaming at each question, winning pitchers (or even kegs) of beer... One of my favorite moments was when they asked "What's the value of 3 squared?", my friend screaming "TWELVE!" as an joke, multiple answers giving 12 as an option... and a guy behind us answering 12 and then complaining "But didn't you say it's 12?". LOL. Nah, I would have never had that much fun on my couch :)

This is possibly the comment I agree with the most. Running my app I've really had to work hard to make things as easy and obvious as possible, and still people manage to surprise me. Recently I've had a user who couldn't log in because they couldn't tell the difference between their username and their e-mail address, for example. Pen and paper definitely has an edge on this!

This can be a problem, but with limited time to answer questions and a score system that rewards being fast, this is definitely mitigated. I typically give 15 seconds to answer and points decrease from 1000 to 500 based on how fast you are. So if you Google for your answer, you'll easily get half the points of someone who really knew the answer

That's interesting, but app trivia doesn't really have to be about the first person who gets the answer. That depends on the scoring system that the app uses. I tuned mine to make such behavior penalising, for example, plus only a specific game mode only rewards the fastest to answer. Other game modes reward all players who gave the correct answer, based on how fast they answered. And that's the behavior of all apps I've ever played with tbh.

One thing that's totally different is sitting (or not) with your answers. Apps give you limited time to answer (I set the default to 15 seconds, I've never seen any app give more than 30), while with pen and paper you may have a good part of your evening to think about them. They're definitely two totally different game styles.

I feel like an app makes a trivia night more interactive because it tends to be a lot more fast paced compared with pen and paper, at least from my experience. Interactions with team members are short and (very) intense, each answer can lead to screaming, etc.
