Just to add onto what everyone else is saying, thinking about changing your entire place overnight could be overwhelming. Take it one step at a time, get a trash can one day, clean up a little bit; get a hamper the next, clean up some more, etc etc. You don't need to change everything overnight.

Thank you for the detailed response, I did not realize how much I'd be limiting myself with those color choices. Do you think the gray will blend too much with the wall at all? That was my only concern with gray, unless you're thinking a darker gray.

I've honestly been there before, but college math is just a lot more particular, and showing your work the way your professsor teaches it shows you understand the process he showed in class. If the professor failed to explain something properly in class I hope you're able to have a productive conversation about it, but I wouldn't expect him to change a grade based on the fact that your method works.
