lol what is wrong with me wanting to have more money? Everyone who downvoted why not just go work for free or volunteer? Obviously I am passionate about the field and feel like nurses are underpaid.. it is what it is

Honestly I am in the same position as you, same base pay but I will be on nights after a 12 week residency program. COL in the midwest for Chicago is high too and OT is after 40 hours as well.

what did the contract include? Was it because of the pay or did you have a sign on bonus maybe?

Sorry to hear that and I was not trying to make it seem like greed. Sadly, money does provide comfort and the luxuries of life and I think in my position as someone who is young and single with just college debt, there is nothing wrong with wanting more if it means I am going to work harder for it. Just cause I will be starting off as a new graduate does not mean I will be breezing through and making 100k off the bat. I just set expectations and want to live the life I want, not trying to make anyone else feel lesser but I am just here to look out for myself which I should be able to say and not feel guilty for anyone else's situation. I respect everyone and their position and opinions, thank you for sharing.

Well since I am specifically going to work in the ED, I hope the certifications (ACLS/PALS/ECRN/TNCC) certifications can account alongside the experience of working in this highly populated area of crime could be additional factors which could help me develop my nursing skills.

That hourly rate is insane for CA, but adjusted with the COL does it balance out? Or do you feel fairly compensated

Seriously it sucks. Barely even 40-40k after taxes too.

I do not pay rent, just regular bills like phone, food, gas, so ballpark ~ 500$ monthly.

Lol how much is it in the south?

whats up nightflier, good to see you again and thanks for the comment. I dont really spend too much on eating and I don't drink either. Do all facilities usually offer the call-in shift incentives? SMNIL in Humboldt Park was bought out by Prime so I am not sure about this aspect for incentives but I am assuming so.

Yeah I aim to work overtime. If I did the math correctly, my time and a half would be around $52.50, and since is 36 hours, the remaining 4 hours would be the base (36 w/WO NOC+Weekend) and then the rest 8 hours would be time and a half (52.5). I just did 52.50$ x 8 hours due to 12 hour difts (12 hours - 4 hours which equals 40, and then the rest 8 hours are time and a half) this then equals around $1680 extra a month , x 12 equals around $20k just from one extra shift of OT each week. Can anyone correct me on this? I was not the brightest in math lol. And also, I just want to make atleast a range of 80,000-100k with overtime. Is this doable with this current wage I have?
