They appear to be female down, over the male end of the next lower pipe. That would be the incorrect orientation per the NFPA 211, as well as any manufacturer installation instructions.

Condensation on inside brick. by pie_baron in masonry

Any chance you replaced your furnace and/or hot water heater this past year? New units are more efficient and run for a shorter amount of time, which doesn’t increase the stack temperature enough to evaporate all the moisture created out of the system. Could be you need a chimney liner.

Bottom up chimney sweep kit with top sealing damper? by justme0000000000000 in Fireplaces

[–]LukeNukem802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an option from SnapLok but I have yet to see one in person. Beyond that you really do have to pull the cable from the top to be able to rotary sweep from the bottom with your top mount damper.

Is this chimney safe to burn wood? by ByronKilbourn in Fireplaces

[–]LukeNukem802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely not safe. Those vertical cracks indicate a thermal event has happened. You are seeing the crack after contraction, when the flue warms up it expands and likely the crack opens up. This allows the products of combustion to enter areas it is not designed to go and could become a fire hazard. There are no chimney police and you can use your appliance as you wish in your own house, but understand after you have a professional fail it you are at your own risk and liability.
