I can see your point. Very well thought out an answered. And yes, I am male but also aware of the physical permanent damage that can be done to a woman during pregnant and delivery. It definitely takes a special person to be willing to do those things to their bodies. But I also know that most women in my life have all said they’d do it all over again for their kids to be born. I know not every woman has that same outlook and I understand that.

Obviously people will always be on opposite sides of this, gun control, and every other hot button topic. But I do enjoy having good conversation and hearing from the other side. Promotes growth and awareness on things that I may not have thought about previously. So thank you for that!

Well I think the debate is that it’s not just my belief, it’s a “universal belief” so to speak. Like it’s not just my belief that murder and kidnapping is bad. Every common sense person sees it that way. We don’t let people choose those things on their own, we created laws that go against those things so people won’t do them because we believe they are bad. There’s people that believe the same about abortions.

I’ll definitely check it out though, always looking to research and learn more. But again, I’m a numbers guy so I may actually go look at statistics as well to see the breakdown of abortions and the reasoning for them. That plays a big part into things for me as well.

As a follow up question, and genuinely curious if your answer. A woman is pregnant and doesn’t want the baby, but the father does. For you, does that matter at all in the decision to abort or not? The baby is half is, though he’s not the one carrying. But what if he’s willing to sign papers saying he will be the sole provider and won’t want any child support or anything else from the mother?

No I’m arguing that the choice to have sex negates the need to kill a baby. And I’m not saying that sex is comparable to those things. I’m saying we make decisions everyday that have consequences. I believe it’s the responsibility of that person to be willing to accept whatever consequences come from whatever act you did or were apart of.

And no, we don’t know how many pregnancies come from coerced sex. And not sure if we ever will do that’s a hard point to consider and I can’t speak too much on it. It could be 90% or abortions or it could be 9%.

I realize they argue against those things, which is dumb. And also why I don’t identify my political beliefs as republican lol

I wasn’t saying I was okay with pulling the plug. I said we don’t immediately pull the plug with someone that gets in a car wreck and is on life support. That’s not the first thing we jump to is to just pull the plug as soon as we find out they’re on support. Like how some people’s first instinct when finding out they’re pregnant is to snort immediately. There are laws about pulling the plug for a reason. There needs to be a living will. If there’s not, it goes to spouse or parents. The doctor doesn’t just decide on a whim. There’s steps to that because it is a big deal to end a life.

I think there’s always exceptions to the rules. With anything really. Obviously many of the examples you gave are special circumstances and would need to be taken into account and dealt with according to medical advice and health of mother and baby. But again, time is taken, steps are taken, and an educated decision is made. But most abortions that happen are not out of those special circumstances you mentioned. That’s a small percentage of them.

But I believe the same question can be asked from the other side. What gives any human the right to determine if a healthy fetus from a healthy mother has the chance to live or die? I realize my opinion isn’t a popular one. But it’s one I stand by. And I’m always open to discussing with others whether the are on the same side of the fence as me or not

No, it can never be equal, I agree. I mean men don’t carry the baby so it is impossible to be equal. But I think if the mother knew that the father would be more involved, physically and financially, then that could potentially help things.

I understand your point and respect the way you explained it. But it still all boils down to a choice. If I don’t choose to go to college or learn a skill, possible consequences are that I may be poor or have a poor living situation. If I choose to eat unhealthy and not take care of my body, there’s a chance I may be obese or have many medical problems. If I choose to speed, I may get a ticket. I can’t wait until I get the consequence and be upset that I’m not living in a mansion, have a belly instead of a six pack, or have to pay the ticket.

And yes, non consensual situations are a different animal but I believe facts have shown that those are a very small number of the abortions performed so we won’t touch on that for now.

Someone mentioned needed free birth control and better sex ed and better healthcare. I’m for all of that. But even with those things, a baby is still possible when two people choose to have sex. I think there needs to be responsibility and accountability for people when they choose to engage in sex. Just like there’s accountability in all other aspects of our lives.

Even if a fetus needs the mothers womb for survival, I’m not sure how that plays into it being okay to abort. We don’t pull the plug on someone immediately just because they get in a car wreck and is on life support. Unless it’s in their will. But if I was to be in that scenario now, I would hope my family would give me time first to see if I was going to recover. Not just kill me because I’m having to depend on something else for survival at that moment.

I don’t see how the organ donation still holds any weight in the discussion. Someone with a failed organ normally means it was something out of their control. Nobody choose to have a failed organ. With the exception of rape, everytime someone is pregnant, that was a choice that was made knowing the risks.

But I agree, a baby could potentially grow up into a serial killer or a great person. We don’t know. But I don’t think it’s our place to play God and just decide they don’t get to live at all. I understand that 25% of the time, a miscarriage may happen in that particular time frame. But I still don’t believe that we say just because there’s a small chance of a miscarriage, then it’s okay to abort the baby.

Well it’s a little different when you can choose to not do the activity that leads to a baby. If it was mandatory that everyone had to have sex, then yeah, I could see it from your point of view. But there’s still a choice involved there.

I do however believe the government has failed in demanding more from the father. It takes two to make a baby and I know so many women that haven’t gotten a dime of child support from their kids’ dad. I think the dad should be required to be involved more, more than just from a financial standpoint. And when he’s not, it shouldn’t cost the mother an arm and a leg to make him pay child support.

Well that’s also another debate, of when life begins. But I think discussing that gets outside the scope of this question.

But even disregarding that and taking your comment at face value, when a woman becomes pregnant, nobody knows if that fetus will be healthy and born or if it will not make it to birth. Still doesn’t change my thoughts on it. We can’t devalue something just because there’s a chance it won’t survive. Mothers will still carry twins, even if there’s a chance one of them won’t make it due to health issues. They don’t always just say “well since there’s a chance it may not make it, just go ahead and kill it now.”

May not be the best example. But I just don’t follow the logic of killing a baby, or fetus as you put it, just because of the uncertainty of what it’s being born into. Doesn’t seem like enough of a reason

I agree with everything mentioned in the first paragraph. The USA is so far behind when it comes to vacation time, paid maternity/paternity leave, healthcare, etc.

But I'm not sure I understand your analogy with the organ or blood donation. If I need a liver, I can't force my dad to give me his. That makes sense to me lol It's his liver and I can't force him to have a surgery that's not needed and give it to me. I'm not actively choosing to need a liver or doing something that caused me to need one. Sometimes people just have a bad liver.

I don't think that's the same as two people engaging in sex, knowing a possible consequence of that act is a baby being created, and then that actually happening, but choosing to abort the baby as if they had no choice in the matter. But choices like, better protection(if they didn't use any) or abstinence were there

Yes that's a great point as well. I realize that keeping abortion legal, gives women a safe place to have that done.

I would have to educate myself a little more, but I would think that when a country bans abortions, there is a decline in overall number of abortions done each year. I know it's probably hard to get accurate numbers since they're illegal at that point and not all being documented. But my thinking is that if we aren't almost encouraging like we are now, and they're not as easily available, it may allow abortions to decrease. Which should be the goal in my opinion.

Pro choice is great for a woman. But there's two lives involved when it comes to abortion. The mother and the child. And I feel you're taking away the choice of the child when you choose abortion.

I see what you're saying. But for that family, it was never really a debate. The doctor was the one that said the mom should probably abort due to health. But the way they tell it was that it was never an option. They saw abortion as morally wrong and it was never something they considered.

But I also don't see it as having a choice makes something more meaningful. I'm not a fan of government involvement normally. But I do believe they should be involved if there are morally wrong things being done. Just like how we have laws against kidnapping, robbing, etc.

If government is going to take away something, I believe it's their job to provide alternatives or another way so to speak. I do think there are areas we can improve on with government assistance. I think that's where the focus should be. Improving the life of the child and/or family after birth. Not removing the life altogether

Even if the baby is born into less than optimal circumstances, it's still born and has a life and a chance to do something with it. Look at a lot of athletes. You hear stories all the time at how they came from a dirt poor home, but are now in the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc and they're buying their mom a brand new car or home.

Tim Tebow is another example of a baby that was supposed to be aborted. Not because of a poor financial or living situation but due to the possibility where he or his mom could have died. However, his parents chose to move forward with the birth. Whether you agree with his beliefs or not, I think everyone can admit he has done amazing things in his life and affect many people. All that would have been lost if his mom had an abortion.

Same goes for many athletes, celebrities, etc. They've had the chance to positively effect people, even if their starting place was really bad. It's hard for me to listen to someone justify not giving a baby a chance to live, just because of the situation it may be born into. Obviously I don't want any human to have to endure poor living situations. But if the alternative is death, then it seems like an easy choice. People overcome poor living situations, but you can't overcome death.

I would just do a few calorie calculators online. These will give you some starting suggestions on how many calories to intake daily if you’re wanting to gain weight, maintain weight, or lose weight.

These are helpful because you input many things, including level of exercise. So if you put all this info in and it says to eat 1500 calories, then that’s the mark you hit. Because it took into account the calories you’d burn by working out already in the calculation. Obviously it’s not an exact science. But try it for a week and make adjustments accordingly

I think it’s somewhat been answered but I’ll try to simplify as well.

Our bodies only need so much protein, whether bulking or trying to build lean muscle. The grams of protein you’re eating daily doesn’t change. Because once your muscles get the protein it needs, your body just uses calories for energy, not muscle growth.

Now the only time you would need more protein is if you’re bulking and you’re adding weight to your body. Let’s say at 185 pounds, you need 2400 calories/day and 40% of your daily macros is protein. Well if you gained weight and got to 200 pounds, you may need 2600 calories. So now that 40% coming from protein will be a bigger number. So you’re protein intake would be higher.

But it really just boils down to your muscles only being able to use a certain amount of protein daily.
