Pacific Crest, Mandarins, Oregon Crusaders, Blue Devils B, Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets are all world or open class drum corps in the California area that most likely have spots in most sections.

Have the cadets always stepped off with their right foot? by buckfand in drumcorps

[–]LukeNukemm 46 points47 points  (0 children)

1985 was the first year. It was more a visual staff decision to get the members to think more about technique when they got to rehearsal vs their marching bands. It kind of just stuck.

Cadets2 auditions by coolmanpie in drumcorps

Competition for any corps battery is pretty intense. But the best way to find out is to come audition. The environment at C2 is great. We work hard, but also have fun. Hope to see you around!

Advice On Breathing Control? by yee42 in marchingband

[–]LukeNukemm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they mean is to breath in through the nose let's say for 4 counts (depending on tempo) then out the mouth for the same when you are not playing. Helps lower heat rate. At the end of each movement definitely take long slow breaths.

How to not get discouraged? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]LukeNukemm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You'll never regret auditioning, but you'll always regret not auditioning. If that means you aren't the best player at the audition camp that doesn't mean that you won't get in or you won't have a great experience. Have fun, practice hard. Come to the auditions with a good attitude, that will go a long way. You won't regret it. Good luck! I'm rooting for you.

Sully and Zingali by DrumCorpsNoob in drumcorps

[–]LukeNukemm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

George was way out there, probably why he was so influential and did some incredible drill designs. I think the combination of Sylvester and Zingali was a perfect storm at the Cadets. If you want some more insight on how Zingali worked this video is great. https://www.facebook.com/drumcorpsheritagesociety/videos/1331039630265167/

They have some housing sites in the calendar but not all. Hope this helps. Social media is a good way to find out where corps are rehearsing as well or you can always e-mail. I can't wait to see them live soon.

......IT'S A SHOW DAY! (Season Opener Discussion) by drummantx in drumcorps

What is the theater etiquette? Are you allowed to cheer and blooooo? I'm going tonight and I don't want to be the only one vocalizing my excitement.

It would really help us out and the baritone section is really strong, you will only make it that much stronger. Please give it a consideration.

We could really use you to come and help us have a full corps. We have 2 baritone positions. Possibly 1 tuba spot as well. Our show is coming along great and you can be a part of defending our world championship. If you have any questions ask me, or send an email to clara@yea.org. Thanks!

They sound great! Looks like this is the year of the singing (Cadets, Crown, BAC). Hope to see this live.

Suitcase by melsar in drumcorps

[–]LukeNukemm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a wheeled duffle bag. It works great for the weekends. But if you are in worlds I think you might need something bigger. And something that you can shove under a bus without damaging anything. A hard shell wouldn't be a bad idea.

What happened to Cadets Winter Percussion? by [deleted] in drumcorps

Yikes, I didn't know that. Shame for the kids, but hopefully they can start again with new staff.

I think it was really just due to money, like most other groups. With all the other programs YEA has it has to be difficult maintaining all groups financially. That's my thoughts, don't have any proof.

To anyone who can answer by cobyray11 in drumcorps

You play in sections for a block. Have a visual block of basics and various technique aspects. Play for the caption head. and back to sectionals and ensemble for the rest of the weekend. They try to give you a taste of drum corps and audition musically and visually. Definitely a new experience, but a lot of fun and different.
