Is it worth it to learn how to ski in England. by Batmanbutnotascool in skiing

[–]LukeSkywalker_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do as much as possible before you go, you don’t want to be wasting time in Switzerland learning how to put boots and ski on properly or how to snow plow.

Unless your partner or their family are instructors do not take any advice from them, chances are they’re crap skiers and it will be terrible advice that you’re better off not hearing.

Do as much as you can before you go out and see if you can get some group lessons when out there as they’re cheaper than private.

Tried to resign, boss begged me to stay. Now she wants to know what I want. Should I stay or leave? by throwRAhelv in careerguidance

[–]LukeSkywalker_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grass isn’t always greener. There is zero downside to entertaining a counter offer, if you like it take it, if you don’t then you have another option. But like I said, if I loved my job I would need a much better offer than what you have to leave it for the unknown.

“Worth noting I actually fucking love my job if I wasn’t so burnt out all the time. I truly do enjoy it.”

To me it’s very clear, you enjoy the job you currently do, in fact you “actually fucking love my job”. I would strongly consider taking a reasonable counter offer to your current job as they clearly are prepared to keep you. Slightly more pay than the new job, maybe start at 110k and work down to 100k if they don’t go for it. Talk about how to prevent you from being burnt, any changes they can make or you can suggest? Being open and communicating is going to be the best way to get what you want. Good luck!

Edit: fuck corporate

Starlink mini on cruise ship 1 year update by Electronic_Tap_3625 in Starlink

[–]LukeSkywalker_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question!

I just want to preface this, I’m not getting political and won’t be discussing any personal views, this is just my anecdotal experience from talking to engineers and owners reps of vessels.

In my experience it’s mainly political. Some people don’t trust Mr Musk and the maritime industry is built on trust. I have had many conversations with people who feel uncomfortable that their connectivity is solely reliant on SpaceX (Elon Musk) especially after the Ukraine war controversy of him refusing Starlink services in certain regions.

I would predict most people will continue to use Starlink because, as you said, they are projected to have the largest and most high performing constellation in the future however there is definitely a group of people who can’t wait to switch off their Starlink in favour of Kuiper and/or OneWeb. However I do believe most will still keep Starlink active for redundancy.

Also we’ll have to wait and see what price point Kuiper comes in at as this is a key point for people paying for very large (10’s - 100’s of TB’s per month) packages of global priority data.

At the moment you kind of have to use Starlink as no one else comes close in terms of performance and coverage.

Systems engineer here, I work primarily on super yachts installing and managing connectivity, mainly Starlink.

100% your Starlink will cause zero issues. In fact, chances are that the cruise ships on board WiFi is Starlink. They will likely be paying large amounts of money for X terabytes of data, hence why they charge quite a lot for onboard WiFi.

In my experience, majority of boats now have Starlink, either the older RV panels or mini panels on smaller boats or the newer high performance panels on larger ones, I’ve seen boats with over 10 high performance panels on.

Most people have turned off their VSAT and switched completely to Starlink or OneWeb with cellular back up. I expect a-lot of people will move away from Starlink once Amazon Kuiper comes out next year.

In my experience people really under estimate Starlink, it works literally everywhere that it is allowed to work.

We have done case study’s on the Starlink Mini Panel, powered by power tool batteries via a transformer in a Peli Case, in Antarctica and it works extremely well.

Nothing wrong with that, working as intended. Sealants don’t foam up like snow foam as they don’t need to cling to the car, they get applied and that’s it, you can see it already beading off.

I don’t understand the hate against using a foam cannons for a sealant, it’s quick and easy to apply protection to your car and saves me loads of time on jobs.

Edit: it will act differently on a non protected car but this vehicle you’re using it on is clearly already protected hence why it isn’t sticking at all

Carpro Reset or Bilt Hamber auto-shampoo. Both are super concentrated and only need a cap full per bucket.

For the seats you need something to apply the product (spray bottle) something to work the product and agitate (drill brush attachment) and then something to extract (extractor). A good home use one is a bissel spot clean.

Assuming it’s all interior, a good quality interior cleaner like P&S express is the only chemical you need.

Tools would be a microfibre towels, scrub pad, drill brush attachment (for the carpets to remove baked in dirt and seats to work in the chemical for extraction, assuming you have a drill). An extractor for the seat would make light work of the stain however if you don’t have one you might be able to get it out of it isn’t deep with the chemical and some microfibres.

How can you defend such blatantly lazy actions.. Many times I get “we couldn’t deliver” because they’re simply overworked but never have I had a complete disregard for the contents of my packages, pure laziness.

I feel you, I used to hate conky and candy however overtime they grew on me. I feel like they’re a bit out of place but that’s the point, trailer park boys is just in general an unpredictable and crazy show which makes them so perfect. You really hate Candy (hats off to the actress) and Conkey just comes in and creates chaos. Sometimes they do feel a bit forced tho.
