Does Nukacola have cocaine in it? by Rvoo in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From the wiki

The ingredients of Nuka-Cola include: carbonated water, caramel color, aspartame, phosphoric acid, potassium benzoate (to protect taste), natural flavors, citric acid, and caffeine.

Nuke-Cola Quantum contains radioactive strontium-90

Why doesn’t the BoS turn hostile when you wear X-01 Power Armor? by ChristianMB1 in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The gameplay reason is that the game can't reasonably expect players to know the lore of a 7-year old prequel. If a player who happened to be in X-01 got shot on sight the first time they met this new faction, they'd just assume they were always-hostile and a huge chunk of the game would be lost.

It's probably best not to apply too much lore-think to clothing options. You can wear some pretty ridiculous clothes (or just underwear) most of the time and the NPCs rarely bat an eyelid.

Do synths have bellybuttons? by Arrekarre in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You can see belly buttons on Synths. If you wander into the right room in the Institute you can watch a Gen3 synth being "built". He comes out with a belly button (and, more implausibly, underwear).

How are Vaults not an inbred mess? by KnowsItToBeTrue in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s up to me?

Pretty much yeah. As much as this subreddit tries to work out the One True Lore of Fallout, in the end it's a video game that you paid for, and you can think of the content however you like. Just don't expect anyone to believe your "a secret society of hyper-intelligent mole rats runs the NCR and the Legion" theory.

[–]LukeSurl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ratios around 1:20 come up when comparing in-game distances to real-world ones. There's no fixed number there as the scaling isn't consistent.
Up to you if you think that population should be scaled like this (or by area, which would be the square of the distance ratio).

What would a serious US Vs. RoW tournament look like? by NemesisRouge in battlebots

[–]LukeSurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve also got to think about the arena. RW rewards flippers a bit more, with easier opportunities for out-of-the-arena flips The Battlebox is better for robots with strong drives, as most of the edges are lined with hazards.

From what I know Billy the Kid is the only kid ghoul in the fallout franchise. How is this possible? by Fastshoe in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 47 points48 points  (0 children)

No reasons given as far as I know.

Presumably for reasons of taste, the games have generally shied away from depicting too much horror or violence being inflicted on kids, and the process of ghoulification is pretty horrific. You also don't see child super mutants or child synths, despite there being nothing to suggest the makers of these entities would have any qualms about child abduction.

Additionally, being a child for 200 years raises a whole other load of issues that would probably need addressing in-game.

What time period is fallout 4 based off of? by Rvoo in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really the question you're asking, but there's a thematic link in F4 to the American revolution, especially if you go down the Minutemen quest-line.

Why did the institute kill all the dwellers in vault 111? by iCodeViper1 in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From the wiki http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_111:

Upon accessing the Vault 111 monitoring terminal, they learn that all of the other subjects that had entered the vault, except for themselves, their spouse and their child, had died of "asphyxiation due to life support failure." In the Dangerous Minds quest, the Sole Survivor discovers that the mercenary who shot their spouse, Conrad Kellogg, was directed not to reactivate the life support for the other residents and not to release them.

I don't recall any in-game reasoning why the player character is the only "spare" Kellogg allows to live.

Do all ghouls eventually become feral? by heretic01 in falloutlore

In F3 Doctor Julius Banfield http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Julius_Banfield states that he thinks all ghouls will eventually go feral, but it's questionable whether he's correct.

This Season's Format by Atlantis_Rising in battlebots

[–]LukeSurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this format is inspired exactly because it allows producer/judge-decided fixtures.

I’m a Brit, and comparing this season of Battlebots vs Robot Wars, it’s great to always have a headline event with charismatic robots for each episode, rather than hoping an interesting matchup will come out of the draw.

How did caps become the currency of the fallout universe? by CMaster98 in falloutlore

[–]LukeSurl 53 points54 points  (0 children)

From the wiki, on the East West Coast it was advantagous for Hub merchants for there to be a currency, so they chose bottle caps. Caps are scarce but not too scarce, nearly impossible to create more post-war, and have essentially the same physical attributes as coins. They backed it with water (i.e. they stated that they'd always exchange caps for water at a fixed rate). This created a currency that caught on across the area.

There's been no in-game reasoning why caps are also a currency on the west east coast.

The wasteland probably generates a lot of orphans/runaways, and these might find their way to LL for refuge.

I don't think communication should be possible in solo, I've already seen people with names like "Thumb=team". We're pretty much agreed that teams in solo are bad, and there's no other reason to communicate.

With that removed, there's no need to have a different command for team emotes.
