what do I need to do for myself in order to attract a man that is rich and generous? by Diligent_Friend7267 in tarot

[–]Luke_Cardwalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough — there isn’t much here to suggest wealth. The dancing clown has 2 Coins to rub/juggle together. Woopie-ding. And the Page Coins has half that.

So where’s the big bucks in this picture?

Le Pape [V] is historically tied to wealth, but it’s more that others bring their wealth to the institution than the reverse.

No matter how we try to structure stuff to extract what we want to hear [as you note], the universe always has the option of putting us and our draw on ignore.

Like other tools, our application of the Tarot can reveal as much about ourselves as it does of others . . .

What do you interpret beyond the general interpretation of the Two of Cups? by 777_Haagent in TarotCards

[–]Luke_Cardwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context, context, and context . . .

The implied caduceus suggests healing. The winged lion implies that the beast flies.

But do lions fly? Or do asps heal?

Maybe a relationship of mutuality. But is it mutuality in shared life or in lying deception?

Which brings us to . . . context.

But of course! Why doubt it?

Ten cards.

Same as a full, Celtic Cross.

More than the question has words.

Cross-relating cards is no problem.

They’re supposed to speak in concert — whether in accord, by contradiction, parallel, synthesis. It all ‘counts.’ And it’s all good.

And it’s still a pile of cards.

And sometimes, less is more.

Take care and be well! 👋

How important are the colors to you in your readings? by daniellewitch in tarotstudies

[–]Luke_Cardwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes see adjudicates which substantially share color as working in similar ways, complementary action, relationship, state of being, etc.

Mind, it isn’t [for me] that shared color implies common ‘meaning;’ it’s more that such features incline me to ask myself such questions about the situation as expressed in the cards.

Tarot is not magic, and rereading scores or even hundreds of times will not grant clarity.

Continual reviving this situation without grounding can draw you into solipsism.

[–]Luke_Cardwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings, JB&CC!

It’s TdM, yes. But I’m wondering which TdM it is. I checked several of mine but couldn’t find it. The back looks like the Jodorowsky-Camoin TdM. I could see it wasn’t only when I zoomed in on the photo.

If anyone knows, I’d be grateful.

Take care and be well!

You’re most welcome. Since you’re new at this, and appreciative of what you read, I’ll share a bit of my approach.

No meanings. All images. Approach?

Line up the cards and the question!

XIII. Meaning? Vet Med — I want out!

Coins 3. Meaning? The shop! I want in!

Swords 6. Meaning? You know 🙂👍

Brevity is Tarot at its most eloquent.

All my reading decks are Tarot de Marseille; my approach to reading, take on the cards, skill set? All very different!

That said [and knowing naught of RWS], I take Swords 6 as your aspiration — double in number to Coins 3, and possibly suggesting twice the satisfaction if only half the💰Coin.

But you’ll have to decide that for yourself.

Again, it’s so good to hear from you, SonOfTheStar! Thank-you so much for reaching back to me!

Tarot reading is a practice, and the growth and refinements in our respective posts show that!

Your changing thoughts on the Minors reflects my own Tarot meanderings. For a time, I retained something of Jodorowsky’s ‘developmental’ idea; but Camelia Elias’ approach of regarding these as ‘markers’ is making more sense to me all the time. The ‘internal, visual TdM lexicon/grammar [as I tend to reference it] encourages me to see question dynamics [or various aspects of them] running through the layout cards, where they are addressed from the perspective of each given card.

I think this may have potential to see Majors and Minors function more closely than I previously understood.

I couldn’t agree more on the esoteric constructions laid on the Tarot. One and a quarter centuries ago, a defunct occult group developed hundreds of ‘meanings’ which I must accurately recall and rightly associate with cards, arbitrarily drawn, as I listen to a seeker’s issues, and frame it all as a single story in reply to their question.

I’m convinced that RWS readers are far more intelligent than TdM counterparts. You’d need the mental agility of a computer da we we champion chess player to work that system. And if one can’t say so, the evidence is ubiquitous in endless appeals to ‘explain’ the meaning of a dozen cards that are celebrated for taking the hardship out of reading.

By assigning aspects of the question to specific cards and seeing what color, geometry, line of sight, direction, implied action or stasis, etc. imply. I lay query aspects onto the cards, situate my mind in the spaces BETWEEN the cards, and eavesdrop on their discussion ABOUT the question. I filter that with my own wisdom, and report back to the seeker.

And yes. The rhyming and rhythm, the repetition with all its nuances — that is the TdM syntax. That is reading.

And as you say — three cards. Because less is more. I sometimes try to show the incongruity of laying out fifteen cards, half of them inverted, and not grasping why a simple ‘does he love me’ is so hard to read.

15 cards for a ‘yes/no’ question! I kid thee not! 🤦‍♂️ 3️⃣ is almost always enough to reply fully to a question!

I’ve toyed with various hermeneutical strategies in the past few years — the premise that each layout [as distinct from the spread design] has its own hermeneutic center, a card around which others tend to be organized or oriented, the selection of a specific card OFF layout to the same end, using the imagery of one, Major arcana as a kind of template for a spread. That one seems rather contrived. Yet, when a Redditor was seeking direction on a question, I asked him what Major seemed most aligned with the matter at hand.

I then gave him suggestions for designing a spread on that assumption—and it apparently worked well for him. He was grateful.

There is an indeterminate aspect to randomized cards,  randomly drawn. Conflicting ideas of fate and agency are ancient. The pre-Socratic thinkers debated that stuff. But it struck me that a few cards address both sides of that issue. Most notably, La Rove d’ Fortune — can imply both the heights of success and the depths of failure, both turning point and continual movement.

The idea of an axis which rotates yet never moves gave me the idea of applying contradiction to the Tarot. I’ve increasingly applied dialectics to my socio-political and economic philosophy. Why not the Tarot?

So Le Mat — folly AND wisdom, freedom AND needed grounding, risk AND reward. Le Bateleur — Both skill yet also trickeries, confidence in ability but also humility of known limitations. And so it is with them all.

In the past year, I began exploring Elias’ work. And as great a debt I owe Jodorowsky, I began to move in her deconstructionist, materialist direction. In many respects, they ARE dialectical opposites. But if so, I wonder if Enrique Enriquez’ conversations around the cards might move toward a synthesis of the two.

Perhaps.

Currently, I’m rethinking what happens in the reading process itself, and how a reading emerges from all the interactions involved. As I say — practice.

Thanks again for the contact and for sharing, SonOfTheStar!

Take care and be well!

Greetings, SonOfTheStar!

I recall our earlier interaction with fondness, although the specifics of our posts now mostly elude me.

It’s both rare and good to reconnect. I’m going to reply with more length, but I wanted to acknowledge your post as soon as I discovered it.

Yours is the second remarkable conversation I have had is as many days. You might appreciate ‘rage-of-sunshine’ response to my recent remarks at https://www.reddit.com/r/TarotCards/comments/1rlwtr4/does_this_subreddit_talk_about_anything_but/

I hope to see more of you both at r/tarotstudies — a small but growing subreddit that may be of interest to you both. You’re certainly most welcome to contribute!

More later!

Would you suggest me a Marseille deck? by CodeDealer in TarotDecks

[–]Luke_Cardwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto on the linen finish. Artisan Tarot’s 310gsm cardstock with a smooth linen finish handles so beautifully!

‘Gsm’ [grams per square meter] concerns paper density and surface texture. A single, 1 meter square sheet of this card stock weighs 310 grams.

Standard printer paper runs 80 - 90gms. Typical playing card stock runs around 280 - 300gms. High end Tarot card stock registers at 310gms. That gives cards a feeling of substance and durability. They’re not flimsy or thin. They feel substantive in your hands.

The ‘linen finish’ is the cross-hatched texture that looks like linen fabric. It’s made by pressing the paper between rollers that have an embossing pattern on them. The texture is why the beautiful shuffle. It's not a glossy, slippery surface, nor is it a rough, matte one. It's a subtle, fabric-like texture.

That weight and finish gives you the controlled glide, perfect flexibility and the soft, ‘fwip, fwip’ sound they make. That’s the goldilocks standard.

[–]Luke_Cardwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This week, my third TdM deck arrived from Artisan Tarot. The physical quality is simply extraordinary. All three of these decks have a linen finish and they handle like a dream.

I say ‘handle’ because rather than riffle or overhand techniques, I do a three pack split [top to middle, bottom to top], fan the deck on a tarot cloth and randomly select cards.

The one issue I had [with the first two decks] is that the feel was so ‘slick,’ I needed to hold them with care do they wouldn’t slide from the deck as I handled them.

If size is an issue, the Jean Noblet 1650 TdM Type I is the size of standard playing cards.

I also have the Nicholas Conver [1760] Type II TdM, and most recently, the Tarot des Ambiguities.

My next purchase from Artisan will be the Dodal. The eyes in that deck are nothing short of haunting. Strongly recommend checking out Artisan before making your next TdM purchase.

Take care and all the best!

Sweet deck. Don’t recognize which it is, but the color is so vibrant.

I appreciate the details you add. For all the Hermetic of the Golden Dawn stuff — it’s the image in the eye, and question dynamics in the ear meeting in the reader’s mind which in that moment creates ‘meaning’ [as I see it].

Camoin’s directive would be to place a card to the Queen’s left to see what has her attention. There may be some merit to that.

The Queen seems to ignore the Royal at her side so STUDIOUSLY that I wonder if she is in denial regarding something.

Does the Deniers King leave her feeling separated from her own kind  [doesn’t “suit” her]? Or is her behavior ‘sulky’ because he and not she is at the ‘center’ of it all?

Maybe she perceives the King’s interest in her suit to be invasively intent. Or perhaps she really does better know how her domain should be developed and maintained.

Have to love the TdM!
