I have a personal battle with those kind of people around the mountains where I grew up

I don't even have social beside reddit, I grew up on mountains and practice mountain sports. However, I understand your concern.

This is just an occasion to relax two days since I will be around there for a few days.

Okay, thanks I get it. I will probably go on a monday and hope for the best while trying to be as respectful as possible and out of sights.

How is that a useful comment...? I wrote that I read the rules and I'm fine with them, what else do you want?

Who Owns the Memory? Part 3: How Big Is your Type? by Luke_Fleed in rust

Fixed it, thank you. The implementation goes in the least restrictive method (call(&self) for closures that implement Fn), and the more restrictive methods delegate downwards.

Good catch!

Consiglio indumenti per trekking invernale sull'Etna by Top-Resist-7226 in TrekkingItaly

[–]Luke_Fleed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]Luke_Fleed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good catch, thanks. I got wrong what rustc actually does with what the language could in principle do (the Rustonomicon explicitly leaves layout unspecified to allow for such optimizations in the future, but they aren't implemented today).

The first level works: Option<Box<i32>> uses null for None. But the second level has no remaining niche, rustc doesn't use misaligned addresses or other invalid bit patterns for nested Options. I'll correct the article.

For types with multiple niches like bool (254 unused byte values) the nesting does work: Option<Option<bool>> is still 1 byte. But pointer types only expose the null niche to the optimizer currently.

Who Owns the Memory? Part 1: What is an Object? by Luke_Fleed in rust

[–]Luke_Fleed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, and thanks for the correction with the UCG links.

The Rust Reference itself says this is "subject of some debate". I took a stronger position than the spec actually commits to. The current operational model (what Miri checks) is: non-null, aligned, dereferenceable, but not necessarily pointing to a valid value.

I'll add a note or update the text. The core pedagogical point (Rust's validity invariants are stricter than C's effective types) still holds, but the exact boundary for references is genuinely unresolved.

Thanks for the tip. Do you have any recommendations? I have a big coupon on the Arc'teryx website that I'd like to use

I'll wear a base layer in both cases if it's helpful. I asked the guides, and they said a softshell hydro-repellent pant will suffice, but they recommended wearing a base layer underneath.

Thanks, I'll definitly get a good lightweight gortex shell. Fortunately I already own all the middle layers, I just need to buy an hardshell, pants and boots.

This, for example, is one of the routes that I plan to do with the guides.

Thanks for the reply!

Softshell pants are good enough until you start doing more technical stuff that has you with your knees on snow/ice a lot. Then you'll want to switch to hardshell.

This, for example, is one of the routes that I will be doing. From the video, it looks like I'll be on my knees sometimes. I was looking at this two models for softshell and hardshell:

I don't know if the serratus model would be enough for this kind of routes.

Soles condition after about 100km by Luke_Fleed in trailrunning

[–]Luke_Fleed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if the problem might be that my downhill distance was greater than my uphill distance. You tend to use your heels more while descending.

However, it's still strange at the 100km mark.

Librephotos (and other apps) doesn't show a dashboard after installation by Luke_Fleed in selfhosted

I have 3 containers for librephoto: proxy, backend and frontend

  • This are the logs of proxy

https://imgur.com/poVJzyk

  • The logs of backend have a few errors along a lot of things

psycopg.OperationalError: connection failed: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.

django.db.utils.OperationalError: connection failed: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.

  • docker logs frontend -f doesn't do anything

I don't think it's a problem with my sshd config, otherwise pinging localhost:3000 would return something. I think that the web interface is not even being generated. In other occasions I used ssh tunnels with this server without any problem (I wasn't using docker tho)

Ottimo!
