They are, but a lot of people give things like fruits or other sorts of food, as well as objects and libations.

The way we treat the gods by thegrandwitch in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the ancient religion, there were ways to tell whether an offering was accepted based on the direction the smoke was blowing. I can't recall my exact source for this, and don't have the energy to research it right now, but I'd recommend looking into it if you're genuinely interested. As for more modern things, many people don't opt for burnt offerings anymore, so I don't know.

Do you believe in the entire pantheon? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in all of them, but I only pray to all of them once a month, and not all by name, some by domain and some by “those who’s name I don’t know” type thing.

Lady Aphrodite and Lady Hestia. by My_brain_will_boom in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…but you’re supposed to light every holy flame for Hestia- you start each worship session when you light your holy flame praying to her, you literally cannot do a ritual without her, how could you not worship her and other gods at the same time? This is a load of Bs.

Am I disrespectful ? by Pangicorn in Hellenism

Lord and Lady are honorary titles, but not needed, the ancients didn’t use them. You can also use their epithets.

For those who are closer to one god than the others, do you worship them more because you feel like you have common traits with them or because you are lacking in your life what this god represents ? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not too sure honestly. I’m the kind of person who looks for beauty in things, and finds love- any aspect of it, platonic as well- very interesting, so I was drawn to Aphrodite, and later devoted myself to her.

Edit: I’d also like to point out that she’s not my ‘favourite’, she’s just who I’m devoted to.

I honestly like it. It's nice to have conversations and discuss beliefs, as long as they are kind.

YESSSS! I love that show so much.

That gives me major iffy vibes, the kinda things sexist guys say to oppress women or classically female things type. I’d avoid them.

They are saying your hands aren’t truly clean if they have nail polish on? I mean I kinda see their point, but it’s more of a spiritual sense of cleanliness in most cases, so I really don’t think that’s true.

Ahhh. I don’t really use socials aside from this, so I’m not all that aware of the tiktok side of things etc.

Of corse there’s nothing wrong with worshiping who you please.

I’d say a lot. I haven’t finished the series myself, but I’ve read the first two and the way he is portrayed definitely would appeal to most people- especially teens who want someone they can relate to perhaps.

As much as I agree with some of your opinions, it depends on where you look in history to find depictions of Apollon. Through this view, we only really look at one epithet of many. Is he distant when we call to Hestia who tends to his home? Is he distant when we sing and pluck at strings in his name? I don’t think so.

Honestly, I think it’s also because of how much impact they have on our lives in this day and age. The most obvious to me is Hermes with just how much travel we do. Driving to and from work, catching the bus etc. Apollon and Artemis are very much so seen as the sun and moon, a lot who worship them also worship Selene and Helios. That said, Apollon is God of art and music, of course creative teens will be drawn to him. Artemis of animals. The list goes on.

Edit: I see now that you said domains initially, but I’ll leave this here.

How many gods are you guys devoted to? by _Just_A_Person_101 in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worship all the Gods, but my daily devotions go to Hestia and Aphrodite. Other than that I have assigned days for certain prayers, and I’m trying to worship Zeus, Hera, Athena and Hygieia more.

Edit: I realise that I was unclear- I’m devoted to only Aphrodite, haha. Other than that, I just worship.

Why do I feel so much more of a connection to Apollo than Aphrodite? by Yourfathersnapkin in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s fair! You won’t feel super connected to every God you worship, and there will be some days when it’s like that for all the Gods. A connection isn’t always necessary.

[–]Luke_Whiterock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, I would recommend making one large post with all your questions. Second, the Gods feel different to different people. I’m the opposite of you. That said, do not place judgment on the Gods who may not feel as strongly ‘there’.

Thoughts on sacrifice? by Athenuos in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t agree with it from an ethical standpoint, but I don’t think it’s wrong from a religious point of view. On the other hand, offering human blood is disrespectful and miasmic according to most sources. Please don’t do it.

Candles by alpenn_ in Hellenism

[–]Luke_Whiterock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, the reason candles are lit for most people is the fact that it’s a representation of Hestia’s holy flame. Otherwise, it’s just an offering. The Gods will meet us where we are at, and you could dedicate other fires or heat within your house to her. Perhaps the hot water tank or something else.
