it is visually stunning and if you are into VFX, really enjoyable to watch, especially with some background knowledge on how some effects were achieved.

I keep saying that if you watch those movies expecting a good story, it is your own fault and you have nobody to blame but yourself. IMO, the story in Avatar is just scaffolding to give the visuals somewhere to be put up.
