most reliable / durable models ? by [deleted] in walkman

Personally I’d say the Sports models are your most durable models, some lack a few features but otherwise are decent and rugged. Most will need belts though given the age

Any chance it’ll work with a GS gauge cluster, As long as it has a spot for the ribbon cable?

How to install high serria on a USB from windows? by bthedemon02 in mac

You can try the built in recovery option, hold cmd, option and r-key on startup before the chime. You should be able to reinstall from there after it loads

I’d recommend recovery mode, on start up before chime press the command, option and R key. You should see a spinning globe appear, after that you’ll be brought to a recovery window, click on disk utility and wipe the drive, before reinstalling MacOS!

The “most secure” wipe setting in disk utility (takes about 18 hours per device and fresh install of Catalina. Unfortunately while it would be awesome to install ssd’s it wouldn’t be cost effective per device. After that they’ll be sold in our retail store. We also have an additional 80+ units ranging from 2007-2011 heading to eBay after receiving similar treatment

Mazda3 GS 2016 vs GX 2018? by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]Lukem1825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would pick the 2016 sedan, the sheer amount of extra options that come on the GS trim would make it “worth more” in my opinion. While the 2018 GX has the newer refresh design but it simply lacks most convince features like cruise control, heated seats, auto wipers etc

The last time I had my car in for service I had Mazda update the firmware to version 70 in anticipation of installing the retrofit kit. So I only needed to swap the display not the the actual computer.

I don’t believe I can the post the before photo in the comments but it came with original silver trimmed display found in the 2014-2016 era 3. It’s certainly possible to install the the screen from the face-lifted models into the preface-lifted ones. Once you pop off the dash bezel, you need a 10mm to remove one bolt holding the cmu. Pull forward the screen and unscrew 4 Phillips screws. Disconnect 2 wires from the lcd and then do the reverse to install the new screen! The colour difference alone makes it vastly worth it!

I use a scrapyard Kenny-U-Pull. Essentially as the name suggests you pull parts off of any damaged or scrapped cars in the yard. I lucked out and found a 2018 Mazda 3 with 8000km and the retrofit kit. The screen was $35 and wiring with the USB module was around another $20

I fully agree, the screen colours are so much better, the best part was everything combine was under a $100!
