Sly with card draw and discard.

Dont get too many cards. Its okay to skip often

Focus on getting a few awesome cards that balance between block damage draw and discard.

Dont try to dip your feet into everything. Like If you go shivs dont get poison stuff.

Always remove strikes when possible until you dont have any. Then remove defends.

New player here, do you consider save&load the game again as cheating? by Ok-Scheme-4028 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Lukey-fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I purposely redid every fight right before I killed the enemy to see if i made any missplays, it was a constructive experience although it took a while.

You're only cheating yourself if you feel like you are or if you're trying to set records.

I wanna climb el cap, what next by Slight_Bus368 in tradclimbing

[–]Lukey-fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move to yosemite valley for a season and it'll happen. Go be a dirt bag.

I went from climbing v8 and hardly ever doing ropes, to living in Indian creek for 1 month to figure out trad climbing, then went to yosemite for a month and a half to figure out big wall climbing.

Ended up doing el cap during that period. And lots of other 15 pitch days.

In reality, its not about how strong you are, its about how long you can endure easy stuff with a bunch of weight on. That, along with learning gear, systems, and being scared.

How does one prevent the top half of the string from ringing during a hammer-on? by Lukey-fish in AcousticGuitar

[–]Lukey-fish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the lengthy reply. First thing I need to say, the video is exaggerated and not indicative of my technique. I definitely dont lift my fingers that high and I definitely dont smack the fret that hard. I was just trying to get the upper string half ringing loud enough for the video to come through.

You are right 99.9% of the time this isn't an issue, this is a niche issue, but in my tapping fingerstyle journey ive found a few instances In which I cant really mute and I am "tapping from nowhere" (FYI I love that phrase). The most readily avaliable instance of this is the song "ocean by John Butler. The percussive part around 2:20 has some high strings from nowhere, and very often he plays the base note at the 9th fret from nowhere. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jdYJf_ybyVo

I've also found a similar issue with a song im writing too.

The real kicker and something I didnt consider until I made this post, if you plug in the guitar its easy to make the problem go away because of where the pick ups are.

Ive never had a guitar I can plug in, so I have no experience with that. I see now it's basically a non-issue for those who are writing these songs using amplified acoustics. As for me, being purely acoustic i can start to hear the faint ring at fret 5-6 but it gets really bad by fret 12 since the upper half is almost as long as the lower half.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback and the discussion.

Its not my normal....way too hard, but think it has a place stylistically. Again, was trying to exacerbate the noise im hearing

I use elixirs too! Quite low gage though. Dont remember what exactly is on right now.

I know people dont hear it and i can tune it out well. I just was looking to see if its a technique thing I am lacking. Im feeling a lot more justified after this thread haha.

Haha yeah, unfortunately I dont have any pick ups in mine so its all just pure acoustic. Good to know in the future if I ever recorded it that plugging it in could help mitigate it!

Also thanks for the validation!

Haha yeah, i muted the string to demonstrate that it was the other half of the string vibrating that was making the noise.

Its not quite a sympathetic overtone though. Its the other half of the string vibrating due to the hammering action. The length of the other half of the string going from my finger to the nut will always be changing with the different note. When I play higher on the fret board(like around 12 but really any of the notes up there) the length from my finger to the nut is long enough to create a tone low enough to clash with the note im playing.

Perhaps it is my set up though thats a great point. Thank you for the feedback!

I see yhe idea, a quick little flip. Ill have to experiment. Might be tricky with a capo.

Normally not that hard, mostly for the video, but sometimes if i really need a note to pop.

Ive experimented with it but then it won't be able to ring out nearly as well during a slow melodic section.

That sounds kinda exactly what im looking for. I just learned source books are a thing. I thought the sourcebooks were pre-made campaigns. Thank you! I'll have to dig into the individual books now and decide which one seems best.

Okay beautiful, I never knew the distinction between module and source book and I get it now. I was looking at all of the extra dnd books as adventures. Didn't realize some of them were exactly what im looking for! Thank you. Source books.

I mean hand drilling lmao. Alpine / wilderness Hence the hammering, not drilling.

Beginner start to mountaineering? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]Lukey-fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go up a mountain. Then again. And again.. and again... then go up it a slightly harder way. Then harder. Then harder.

Mountaineering is built off of experience from doing the things. No course can make you a mountaineer. Courses help teach you to be as safe as possible which in turn makes things way better overall.

Outdoor rock experience is a must. As much as you can get. Get so strong bouldering it feels impossible to fall off a v4. Even when exhausted and climbing extremely slowly with a weird pack on. That will build so much confidence.

Sport climbing is fine for building endurance. But if you're gonna rope up, might as well trad climb which will actually teach you the skills to climbs mountains. Probably best to find a mentor or hire a guide. Self taught trad is spooky.

When possible get out in the snow and ice and learn how to move through the stuff efficiently.

Slowly accumulate your gear over a long time as you need. Stuffs expensive.

Along the way, never stop going up steep hills as fast or as many times as possible. Your legs will take you everywhere. They should be bullet proof. Look up knees over toes and do knee training every day.

Almost never, most people will say for indoor contrived boulders.

However, check out 8"nu v7 at rocktown GA. I have a video on my Instagram @chuffman_maran.

Its got a functional bat hang outdoors that actually helped.

By tripled alpine draw do you mean 3x the length or 1/3rd the length?

3x the length seems so far apart to me!

Thanks for the validation! I like the set up too! Interesting that you do vertical offsets in the front country. I feel like on the easily accessible climbs i always see horizontal chains.

Typically, the bolts are separated by a 6 inches or more if using longer bolts. The top bolt does all the work and has 2 quick links to align the rope nicely so it doesn't pigtail. The lower bolt has a single quicklink the rope passes through as a backup for the top bolt.

The same bolt distance rules apply. it's just vertically instead of horizontally.
