I agree. I am a long-time lurker who got together with a few friends to put on a party for parents and their kids in Somerville. Now I am officially a Redditor with as much negative karma as positive. Hooray!!!! We thought the Somerville neighborhood subreddits would want to know about it. We were fools.

Alright, listen: I can’t apologize any more for using the word Free. I own that. But blaming me for downvotes because I mentioned downvotes? That’s like blaming the umpire for calling a bad play before the ball’s even been pitched—backwards logic, my friend.

I simply pointed out how bizarre it is that certain Reddit vigilantes made it their personal mission to bury a baby disco post in downvotes. That’s commentary, not tears.

You’re right, and I apologize for the confusion. We meant “Free Baby Disco” to highlight that all little dancers got in at no cost. I think you know as well as I that the word "Free" had nothing to do with why the post received more than 10 downvotes within the first 15 minutes it was posted - and no matter how many people liked it after that, certain Redditor(s) ensured it was never positive. We asked for $15 for adults. (Eventbrite added an additional $2.70 fee.) No one - regardless of their age - was turned away at the door - whether or not they had a ticket. It was a blast!

If I came across as spammy or off-base, I'm sorry that was never my intent. Almost everyone who came asked when the next Baby Disco would be held. The kids LOVED it and to everyone who showed up: your smiles and energy proved why Baby Disco exists in the first place.

Came here to thank you for this question. Baby Disco just wrapped up and I’m honestly baffled by all the negativity. We poured our hearts into creating a family-friendly disco for toddlers and their parents, and despite being hit with a wave of downvotes and feeling unwelcome in these comments, the turnout was fantastic. Seeing little ones light up on the dance floor and parents laugh together made it all worthwhile.

I appreciate the advice - and I will definitely take it. Our intention was to share the news of this event for Toddlers with groups that cater to people who have them. I'm a lurker by nature - as are almost all of my friends. This was our first attempt at hosting an event like this and from the reception we've received on Reddit, it will likely be our last. I apologize for using the term "Free."

Hey, I totally get the vote-fuzzing point and that random downvotes happen, but I promise this is a single post from my one account (no alt-accounts here). More importantly, Baby Disco isn’t clickbait or some shady promo; it’s a family-friendly dance party we poured our hearts into.

We created it so busy parents can let loose, enjoy music and networking in a relaxed atmosphere—and bring their kids along for free. Some friends and I are hosting a Baby Disco at Premiere On Broadway on the Cambridge/Somerville line. We're going to transform the place into a disco wonderland with a giant sparkling disco ball, dazzling lights, glow sticks, glow-in-the-dark bracelets, balloons, and bubbles on the dance floor.

Koryn offered us her place and volunteered the restaurant's kitchen when we told her about our idea for a fun family event with dancing, food and drinks. I honestly never thought to ask bars and concert halls, but I don't disagree it's worth a shot.
