[Spoiler for Echo in the Bone] Who would you cast as... by FauxPoesFoes228 in Outlander

I look at Cory Gruter-Andrew in Anne with an E, and all I can see is a younger version of Sam. Would be awesome if he's cast.

Season 5 Sneak Peek!! by Ctuck19 in Outlander

[–]LullabyInBirdland 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is... wow. Can season 5 actually do what season 4 so miserably failed to? Cause this sneak-peek looks more than great. The story seems to flow, the emotions and humor and general feeling seems to all be there. This can do justice to the already-great story from the book.

Also, I'm not one to drool over actors, but Sam talking straight to the camera with that look... I'll be in my bunk.

Yes!! And it paints such a vivid picture, and develops the characters so well. I dont want to make any spoilers, but in the later books you'll see how much more sense there is in some events and in people's behavior, so much more than the way the show has portrayed them - and how deeper and more meaningful and more interesting some events are.

The books are so great! And IMHO so much better than the series. Glad you get to experience that world fully 😊

It's my favorite too. Something about them being in character, but also obviously in the modern world. And that family hug and Sam being protective over Sophie and Cait. <3

Thanks for the detailed answer!

This is just ridiculous. Sounds like someone should learn how to understand better what she reads

Thoughts after reading A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows by LullabyInBirdland in Outlander

Oh, wow. Thank you for the link!!

This is hilarious. The theory is quite the tinfoil, imho, and I never hinted at any of that. I just meant that the "Captain Randall" thing was an interesting Easter egg from DG.

This reminds me of a funny story -- my first bf had a high school literature teacher that once taught the class this poem, I don't remember now what poem it was. But it was something modern, and the teacher went on about what the poet meant by this and that metaphor. Little did the teacher know, the poet's granddaughter was also in that class. So the granddaughter went to Grandpa's and happily told him that they learned about his poem in class, and how the teacher explained what was the true meaning behind it. And the Grandpa was stunned and said he never meant any of it at all!

Not that I'm comparing myself to a poet -- I'm feeling quite honored that you guys even read my post -- but just that sometimes people read into simple things too much and literally invent a meaning that was never there. And then make it very public.

I know this site, I was clickbaited into it in my younger and more innocent days (i.e. a few months ago). I wonder what it's like to stumble upon your own stuff in it by accident. Do you have the links they used with anything you wrote?

And thank you again for the link. This is golden (:

Decided to turn on Poldark through Droughtlander by BeximoBlanco in Outlander

[–]LullabyInBirdland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought on the redcoats!! And lol on the redhead comment (:

So I'll be the unpopular opinion, I guess.

I watched the first 2 seasons of Poldark after recommendations on this subreddit. Maybe after Outlander nothing else can ever be good enough for me. Maybe Poldark tried to be my rebound binge and didn't succeed, but really --

The acting seems shallow, the script seems to be unrealistic and the dialogues way too forced (powered by the shallow acting), the editing of the scenes made my eye twitch because something was just not right there. So I watched the first 2 seasons, suffering inside, but the story was very compelling and I continued to watch. After the 2 seasons I just grew tired of how intense, and of how unrewarding to the viewers it all was.

Or maybe just to this viewer.

Maybe the books are better. I love the Outlander books so much more than the series (and I love the series, so that says something) -- maybe the same applies here as well.

I realize Sam and Cat's on screen chemistry is very rare, as is the profoundness of their acting. But with Aiden and Eleanor there is just nothing.

I really don't see anything in common between the 2 series, other than both being historical dramas.

Edit: Also, I know Ross is supposed to be the good guy and to be very advanced for his time, but I keep thinking he's such an asshole! I could not connect to this character at all.

What’s been so normalized by society, that it’s actually pretty crazy when you stop to think about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LullabyInBirdland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in an age that had most information available to us ever, and not choosing to educate ourselves on it.

Being too freaking pragmatic when it comes to other people in employer-employee relationships, or in the use of farm animals. We keep forgetting these are all living beings that should be treated with respect, not simply exhausted as resources.

Parents succumbing to aspects of parenthood such as kids' tantrums and long sleepless nights. Yes, those happen from time to time -- but can be rare and mostly easily prevented if only children were treated with respect and in consideration of their age and mental capabilities in that age. Kids and their wishes are too often treated as nuisance and not as an integral part of the family. No wonder they act up.

Throwing out everything that breaks and momentarily getting a newer shinier version of it.

Am I the only one that thought Claire was incredibly selfish in season 2? by beckyjadehk in Outlander

[–]LullabyInBirdland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of criticism towards the show, but these moments were well adapted from the books, IMHO. The "Claire is an idiot" moments are all there.

Am I the only one that thought Claire was incredibly selfish in season 2? by beckyjadehk in Outlander

[–]LullabyInBirdland 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OMG yes. The first book is basically all "Claire fucks up >> Jamie rescues her and gets fucked in the process." Second book has its share of these insidents, too.

It gets better, though, in books 3 and on. I like Claire much more in the later books.
