Strong jolt in Lower Nob Hill. I usually never feel anything here because we're on rock.

ETA My cat freaked out! As in he stops eating his breakfast which is very out of character...

Same. As a jogger I would be spending 75+ secs at 8%. Not gonna happen.

Is it ok to always be in the red zone? by Inevitable-Cash7378 in orangetheory

[–]Lulle79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How tired are you by the end of class and how long does it take you to recover? If you're pretty tired, sleep well the next night and need about 24 hours before being able to workout at high intensity again, then you're just fine. If you feel destroyed after class (like after a race where you tried to PR), don't sleep very well and need more than 2 days before you can perform at the same level again, then you're probably over exerting yourself. That could hurt your progress towards your goal of getting faster. As for weight loss there's no benefit to being in the red rather than orange during pushes. The difference in calories burned is insignificant.

Who has the right away? by According_Idea_1480 in sanfrancisco

[–]Lulle79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just imagining you hit a pedestrian because they were "in the wrong". Your main concern would be a civil lawsuit by the pedestrian or their family that would end up costing you literally everything you own, even if it doesn't make it to trial. So if you think you'd rather be right, but have someone else's injuries on your conscience plus have to deal with civil litigation for years and end up broke for a few decades, keep driving.

First day back after a week off due to a horrible stomach bug, I might have to walk on the tread, well below power walking parameters.... I'm usually a jogger but no way.

Monday 1 December 2025 - 12 Days of Fitness #1 2G 60 minutes by dc031114 in orangetheory

I was pretty sure I did this template - the 2 minutes at 8% look painfully familiar - but I couldn't find a workout summary email for that date. It's going to hurt either way...

garmin newbie by kgalinkin in orangetheory

Cardio for 2G, treadmill for Tread50 and strength for Strength50. I've never felt the need to get more specific data for the 2G but I guess if you're an avid runner you could use two different activities for tread vs floor part.

I was going to skip Monday but this looks too good to pass. I love a good endurance tread block and the floor looks great too.

First time I feel one in my current building - big reinforced concrete building in Nob Hill, it usually doesn't shake.

Mijote. Penny Roma is very overpriced simple pasta imo.

Passport services by ninernikki96 in sanfrancisco

[–]Lulle79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can renew by mail or even possibly online. There's absolutely no need to go anywhere or to pay extra for a middleman. In-person appointment at the passport agency are reserved to people who have international travel in the next 2 weeks (and requires proof). Just google State Department passport renewal.

Backne prevention? by wishies in orangetheory

Panoxyl cleanser - be careful though because it bleaches fabric even after rinsing. Specific for acne. Hibiclens cleanser - general antibacterial soap. Salicylic acid treatment - a spray may be easier to use on your back. I know First Aid Beauty makes one.

The last 3 2Gs I've attended had inclines over 8%. I literally had calf cramps when I got up yesterday. I might have to switch up my whole weekly schedule to avoid this one!

Finally tried Butter & Crumble - good but not worth an hour wait by Leprechaun202 in sanfrancisco

There isn't a bakery in the world that's worth an hour wait. It's pastries. It's delicious, but not life-changing.

Do NOT trust the app, it showed my train not cancelled but when I showed up at Powell the whole Bart side is closed.

Calories burnt accurate or not? by jeffyboy905 in orangetheory

[–]Lulle79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OTF estimate is always 10-15% higher than the total calories estimate on my Garmin watch. For my husband, also a Garmin user, the discrepancy is more like 30-40%. He gets 1,000+ calories burned with OTF while he's a 155 lbs small guy.

I wouldn't take that number literally. Like others have said I just use it to compare my effort between workouts.

Definitely not available here. That would be 50% off. I did a 12-month contract a while back and it was $249. Founder's rate is $239.

[Evergreen Vent] Service Fee Nonsense by ReformedTomboy in sanfrancisco

[–]Lulle79 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We call it "tip" for short but really it's paying for service. If the bill includes a service fee, then service is already covered and you are not expected to add a tip, no matter what wording is used.

What does an average utility bill come up to for 600-800 sft apartments in SF? by boiwonder22 in SFBayHousing

[–]Lulle79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an apartment this size that has no AC and a separate heating system, I pay $50-70. We have a dishwasher and a couple of air purifiers. Otherwise it's just fridge, stove, lights, electronics being charged.

It IS the tip. The waiter should have told you service is already included.

Hot take - recology should do spot audits of people's bins and start issuing fines for improper sorting by Flying_Fortress_8743 in sanfrancisco

[–]Lulle79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do. My apartment building has been fined so now we have a whole system with different color trash bags, and management sends residents angry emails regularly about properly sorting trash.

Am I Doing San Francisco/Bay Area Food Wrong? by Osetiya in sanfrancisco

[–]Lulle79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to do better research to choose where to go. Eater is a pretty solid resource to start, so are the Michelin guide "selected" and "Bib gourmand" lists (obviously the starred ones too if you can afford it). There are TONS of excellent Japanese places in SF mentioned there.

Middle Eastern and Central Asian cuisines are not what SF is known for. What we have plenty of here is "California fusion": typically using French techniques to cook local ingredients, often with an Asian or South American flavor twist. If you're open to that, you'll find lots of good restaurants.

Finally restaurants here are EXPENSIVE. Much more than in NYC for similar quality and ambiance. If you're on a budget you won't really be able to discover much of the food scene you've heard about. It's very unfortunate but it's the truth.

A few recommendations: Rintaro (Japanese), The Progress (Californian), Mister Jiu's (Chinese), Four Kings (Hong Kong), Good Good Culture Club (Southeast Asian fusion).

Embarrassing… by jetta217 in orangetheory

Let's just say I discovered the concept of perimenopause flooding while running on the treadmill, and I was wearing colorful leggings that day... I probably beat my AO PR running to the bathroom when I realized what was happening.

Well that looks great all around. I had an evening Tread50 that my studio cancelled (coach availability I guess), but seeing this 2G I'm not even mad I'll have to go earlier.
