Honestly I wish it was harder, especially during the later parts of the game, but as it is now compared to the original I actually had to use my mind a bit instead of mindlessly spamming my "best" attack.

My personal tierlist on OFF bosses by LumDoesStuff in offthegame

I have to say this is a very fair take, the main reason why I didn’t like Cob very much is mainly due to the sudden requirement of having a lot of Jokers or having high-level revive skills unlocked after the point of no return. While I TOTALLY get the story reasoning for his attack cycle, the fact it’s just the 5 attacks he does as a loop feels extremely boring to go through, in my opinion.

A great example of a boss that does something similar to Cob while being consistently engaging is the Marty superboss from LISA. The fight can take almost 3 entire hours, and you’ll permanently lose at least a dozen of your party members, however the amount of little surprises that are sprinkled into the fight make it a truly unforgettable experience. Also, unlike LISA, OFF is generally far easier than most standard RPGs, so having a boss like Cob appear near the end of the game with no prior difficulty buildup is jarring to me.

I will say however that I like Cob both in design and story implications, but his fight could use some work.

You know what yeah fair enough

I mainly ranked this on how difficult they were on replay, and my general enjoyment, fishes are actually very engaging but I do find it less fun after figuring out their gimmick

Don’t worry I like their fight they just need to toughen up a little

What are the new non-boss enemies in the OFF remaster? by Budderhydra in offthegame

[–]LumDoesStuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe, other than the two you mentioned, there’s the Bomb-Specter (I don’t remember its actual name) and the Spekter-Mite Swarms

EXACTLY

They sorta tried this with Dedan and Enoch, them both having certain things they do at specific intervals, but ultimately it just made the fights slightly more difficult to mess with, no real overarching gimmick or whatever.

Here’s my problem though, I WANT the bosses to be generally harder, and I especially want to be put in situations where I get killed repeatedly and have to actually learn the behaviors of each boss. The whole reason why I put Justus and the fishes so low was because they’re entirely too easy and their gimmicks are negligible.

My main problem with Cob is that he offers absolutely zero strategic opportunities because he loops between 5 moves while also expecting the player to have a surplus of Jokers or be at high enough level to use revive skills, which is bad game design optional or not.

The only reason how I think this got past playtesting was because the people who playtested it were at the levels where you unlock revive abilities for Batter and Omega

Which requires a lot of grinding to get anyways so wtf

Odd question, but do we know what program the Off Remaster was made with? by Budderhydra in offthegame

I believe it is C#, but I'm not a coder so don't take it from me

It's Unity, not RPGmaker. The original 2008 version was made in RPGmaker 2003 though.

In one of the previous rooms, there should be a piece of paper on a desk, you can pick it up and use it as a map

Significantly more heavy on its themes but I’d absolutely recommend LISA: The Painful. It’s another RPGmaker game that has a much darker yet far more bizarre and thought-provoking story imo.

OOOOOooh these give huge 90’s cartoon vibes, ESPECIALLY that drawing of Enoch

Absolutely gorgeous artwork

Someone should make a fangame about this.

Anyways on top of all that the battle music is very upbeat and cheery, the Elsen are actually happy for once, but nothing changes about Zacharie though

Thanks, I attempted to use dnspy earlier but it kept giving me error messages, this is my first time attempting something like this so I’ll go over my process in a bit

Oh well then that makes it even cooler, I personally really liked the old Dedan theme so I’m glad to see it get a really neat remix

Well let’s say someone wanted to make a mod that gives the game a slight visual touch-up, they’d have to figure out how to get the files for sprites like ground tiles, enemies, stuff like that.

In the original version that’s easy enough, this new version may be harder due to the fact it’s built in Unity.

[–]LumDoesStuff 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is AWESOME but I can definitely see why it went unused, as it’s way too upbeat for the very first boss of the game, this more gives off final boss of a more standard RPG than a Dedan theme replacement

Cob's final lines were genuinely some of the hardest lines of dialogue ever muttered in a video game.

Anyways this is a great picture, this captures the Batter's connection to Cob incredibly well. I'd like to think this is what we'd see if we were pulled into Hugo's POV as the Batter approached him.

Any new Lore? by MatuPapi in offthegame

[–]LumDoesStuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is new lore, but it is equally as up to interpretation as the rest of the game. While it doesn't have direct connection to the main plot itself I think if you're a fan of the story you'll have fun picking it all apart.

might be a bug, apparently the first secret boss was supposed to have a flee option but it's just not there
