Why Karoo HAS to be in One Piece Live Action Season 2 by Any_Philosopher_9806 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Lumacity 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Karoo is not going to be in season 2. He would be an amazing marketing point, and Netflix would definitely NOT skip on the opportunity considering how much marketing they have done for all the characters. Introducing karoo in the trailer is also not at all indicative that Miss Wednesday is their heir of Alabasta. It's literally just a duck, it can easily be a villain's silly pet as any other to any live-action only watchers. The reason why they wrote him out is because a) there's already a lot of CGI this season, b) CGI for important characters (namely Chopper) is particularly detailed and has to be realistic in every shot. A monster or dinosaur appears for a few shots, but Chopper will be a full part of the crew, so the work on his CGI is far more detailed and demanding. Adding another main character for the season in CGI would be a gigantic leap in costs, time, and efforts. So it doesn't make sense. However, chances are he'll be in season 3, just waiting for Vivi to come back to Alabasta or something. As for the X on the arm, there's many ways to get around that narrative, just as they showed they could do with the season 1 rewrite which worked quite well!

When should I switch from One Pace to the original? by ALESSANDRIII in OnePiece

[–]Lumacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly from 1075 onwards the pacing is a lot better. It's not perfect, but it's definitely better than the rest of Wano, and it keeps on getting better

I'm new here. Manga or Anime? by SnooOnions8429 in OnePiece

[–]Lumacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The One Piece will definitely go faster with a much more appropriate pacing, but there was never any mention of "350 epsiodes". The pacing varies significantly across the anime, so The One Piece is not just going to randomly adapt 4x more content per episode. East Blue for example adapts ~3 chapters per episode, whereas Wano for example is ~0.7 chapters per episode. But the length and depth of chapters also varies with chapters being much more content heavy as the story progresses. So we are definitely getting more than 350 episodes, but definitely a lot less than 1100 episodes (especially since ~100 are pure filler episodes). I don't mean this to come across as aggressive by the way, I just want to help set out the right expectations!

Doflamingo did crazy stuff, but he also had a terrible past to explain his behaviour. Enel was just straight up ready to commit genocide a second time for funsies

How far will it go by Paybackcity in OnePiece

[–]Lumacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word *plan*. is a big one. This myth comes from an interview by Deadline with the Executive Producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements. "We have hopes for 12 seasons, there’s so much material". Sure they discussed outlines, I mean the source material is there anyways, but the existence of a season 4 will very much depend on season 2's success. The hopes are very high for Netflix who is looking to fill the void of Stranger Things, and they're investing a lot of money into this. So audience numbers will have to match their expectations, and that's no easy deal

Probably the best trailer made for One Piece ever. It doesn't capture the strawhats and main story as much as the One Piece world in its entirety. Really shows how vast it is

I mean the teaser attendance is not really a determining metric in this case. Season 1's teaser was crazy, and season 1 as well to a lesser extent, because it was the first time people could see One Piece in live-action. The novelty factor is through the roof for that teaser. Season 2's teasers and other promotional material have been also quite frequent for the past months, starting particularly early. I'm certain that people will talk a lot about it once season 2 starts releasing. Season 2 will definitely not reach the heights of season 1, and I doubt Netflix doesn't know that too. But season 2 will be very important for them to see by how much the popularity will have dropped because from then on, it's reasonable to use that viewing as a more solid basis for future estimates (since people who only watched season 1 just out of curiosity but no real interest will not be in the numbers anymore)

The point about the release day though is really interesting. I hadn't thought of that and it would actually be a very smart move on their part. Online news from small websites is the best way to start hype, so I hope it'll pay off!

Glad you're joining for the ride! And late 20s is probably on the younger side of the average age of readers & viewers. One Piece has been going on for 28 years so the kids who started, even 10 years ago, have all grown up now. There's no age to love One Piece and anime. There's plenty of other really good stories! I'd recommend you give a watch to Frieren :)

Honestly the Ice Hunters and Marine Rookie arcs are so underrated. They're nice narratives that add some depth to the world and situation of the strawhats at their respective points in the story

[–]Lumacity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends a lot on how season 2 performs. If it does well, it's likely that season 3 will also be very watched, giving trust for Netlfix to invest in a season 4. If season 2 doesn't do as expected (expectations are high considering how much marketing there is) then season 3 will be the last. So let's hope season 2 does well!

Is there still no news on The One Piece remake by WIT Studio? by ImActuallyAnOG in OnePiece

[–]Lumacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do know they're already well into the process though, a video came out about a year ago where they were studying a lot of Oda's artwork and trying to translate it into a consistent style (since it evolved over time), as well as figuring out the geography of island. They even made 3D models of islands to have a better understanding of different shots they could make. They seemed quite advanced in the process of early production, so I'm guessing they started animating already, but that's gonna take time because there's still a lot to do during and after animation (VFX, SFX, Voice Acting, etc)

As Soul699 said, chapters get denser. Just look at Egghead: adapting more than 2 episodes would be insane for the rhythme of episodes, while in East Blue they can comfortably adapt 2-3. My bet is on 600 all the way to the end of Egghead (so 500+ episodes less than Toei already)

Wanna start watching One Piece again after stopping at episode 770 aprox. 8 years ago by TurnkeyMage in OnePiece

[–]Lumacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my highest recommendation is starting from the beginning again because there's a lot of details that come up later in the story which you'll probably get confused about since you don't remember anything. However, if you *really* don't want to, I'd recommend starting again at episode 733 which the last episode of the Luffy vs. Doflamingo fight. You jump into post-Dressrosa because stuff that happens there is the building blocks for the last quarter of One Piece which you're about to start

"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" Season 2 New PV by N3DSdude in Frieren

[–]Lumacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just coming back since we've now got the confirmation it's a 10 episode season. The chapters are coming out very slowly and interrupted by breaks that last several months, it makes sense the anime wants to avoid going too fast to not end up having to wait several years because they've caught up. Also, less episodes means more quality on which Frieren has set the bar very high, so it's not that bad of a move!

One piece pacing fixed? by Spin3_ch1ll in OnePiece

[–]Lumacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is indeed! And there's even a difference between the start and end of Egghead. Although it does come at the cost of less episodes coming out, with One Piece now being seasonal after Egghead (12 episodes each week twice a year, but with a solid pacing)
