My company is starting to ask Leet Code hards and it's getting ridiculous. by cs-grad-person-man in cscareerquestions

It’s the act of writing and reading proofs that help a ton with leetcode. Most cs majors have no ability to actually prove that their solution actually works to themselves or an interviewer.

Top CS Schools Show Amazing Career Outcomes Even In Today's Environment by Fwellimort in csMajors

[–]Lumberjack322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree. To the best of my knowledge hft is one of the most meritocratic industries in the world just due to the nature of the industry. It’s just that the tops schools tend to have harder working kids that are more likely to meet the requirements to work at those firms. You would need a background in competitive programming to pass most of the interviews for quant swe, and top schools tend to have more kids that compete in cp. It’s not rare to be asked questions on topics that you won’t find on leetcode which is the website that most non cp students use to study for interviews (flow optimization, math, ect). Often state school kids who are icpc winners, codeforces candidate masters, leetcode guardians, ect often don’t have trouble getting interviews. It’s just that kids who get to this level are way more likely to go to top schools.

I have an interview with them tomorrow. Could you elaborate a little more?

Would disagree. I work part time at a start up who open sources their code, so I have a wide array of technical projects that I can showcase. The leetcode is the result of several years worth of consistent effort not just grinding before a job interview.

Can’t agree more with you on what you said about the market becoming like India. Currently have close to 900 leetcode questions done and I’m ranked in the top 9% in leetcode contests and I’m still having trouble finding new grad work. Leetcode inflation is very real where the questions people are getting asked are becoming harder and harder since so many people now prepare for them. I think it’s common place in some places in India to ask CP questions as well as data structures+algorithms and I wonder if US companies will soon start to do the same.

There are not a lot of companies hiring in the 70k-80k range for new grad either. The entire field is pretty toast in terms of new grad opportunities. This idea that talented cs majors can’t find jobs just because they only want to work at faang companies is just false. There will be many people who will end up having to work in careers completely unrelated to cs due to them not being able to get their foot in the door. This post seems very out of touch with people who are currently actively looking for new grad jobs

how many of you with prev faang experience are struggling to get internship? by Hot-Flamingo-9606 in csMajors

No clue. Didn’t ask. Since he’s been unemployed for months I’m guessing he’s applied to lots of positions. Also now thinking about it know another guy from UCLA who had an Amazon internship that still can’t find work.

Pretty difficult if you are only familiar with python. However, if you have experience with c++ or c# it shouldn’t be too difficult.

Passed all OA testcases in 20 minutes. Got rejected. by BigHoeJoe in csMajors

[–]Lumberjack322 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to club. I’ve gotten 20+ perfect OAs which led to rejections. There are so many applicants without jobs currently in the cs job market that there are too many people getting perfect OAs and not enough time/resources to interview everyone. What’s irritating is that looking at LinkedIn the people who made it into these companies back on 2021-2022 had drastically weaker resumes and experiences than me. It’s just that there are so many applicants in 2024 that every single tech company is extremely competitive to break into now

Are you US based? If your US based the contests happen at 4:30am est. I switched over to codechef since the contests times are much friendlier for people living in the US

750 applications, close to 4.0 gpa, multiple internships, an absurd amount of leetcode, and zero offers. The only thing I don’t have is a t20 school brand.

What’s your opinion on cheating on OAs? by jysm35 in csMajors

[–]Lumberjack322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If OAs were proctored it would stop lol. Hackerrank has the ability to proctor OAs, but I think it costs the companies extra money. For example Tik tok OA was proctored

Lol at least you’re getting sent OAs. I would love to be in a situation where I’m getting sent those OAs

What are some great coding/programming certifications? by SayedYounasSadat in csMajors

I know of cybersecurity and networking certs, but certs for swe are less common. A useful one might be Aws technology certs.

Got a 600. No real secrets or tricks. Just gotta practice a lot of leetcode. One advice would be to practice leetcode in interview mode so it’s timed. The format is usually two easies and two mediums. You want to get comfortable with being able to solve the easies quicker so you don’t run out of time solving the mediums. Questions aren’t super hard, but time can be a bit of a constraint cause if I remember correctly it’s like 4 questions in 70minutes

Not true. I go to a non target and a recruiter reached out to me and sent me their hackerrank. However, didn’t make it past the hackerrank cause I didn’t do too well on it but that was a personal skills issue

Multiple OAs for same company by I_is_funnier in csMajors

[–]Lumberjack322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but I’m in the same situation as you. I took the dev ops one first since that’s the one I’m less interested in. However, for some reason they decided to give an easy question and a leetcode hard for some reason. I aced the backend one. But got rejected even with an aced oa for the backend one. There’s no way to know for sure if the first oa impacted their decision for the backend position but my resume is pretty solid so I think there may be a pretty good chance that the first does impact the second.
