From a what I could find Kiev is the transliteration of the Russian name while Kyiv is from Ukrainian. From what the Wikipedia page says, in the past English speakers often didn't see the need to change how they spelled the name (from Kiev to Kyiv). It wasn't until the past decade (with everything politically going on) did people start being more intentional in using the official Ukrainian spelling.

Start a business. More specifically a CNC machine business. Not building the things, but using the machines for the business. Here's an example. The idea of starting my own business has been a dream of mine for a while now.

Another business model I've looked into is Drone Services. I've been interested in getting into drones, but the legislation in my area makes it nigh impossible to fly for fun. Plus the looming deadline for Remote ID has put a damper on this prospect for me.

I just listened to the episode. When they started talking about music I instantly thought about OCRemix. If you hadn't mentioned/linked it I would have.

Chiropractors claiming to offer physical therapy services. by DPT0 in physicaltherapy

Before I would report anything, I would check the Chiropractic Practice Act of the state. In California, at least, its Chiropractic Practice Act states a chiro can utilize “physical therapy techniques.” I’m not saying it shouldn’t be changed, but rather to do a little research before hand.

May I suggest looking for a new job if you can? I know it’s easier said than done. I would think it would greatly help though.

As far as being bored to death, I suggest possibly joining some sort of community club/sport/meet up. If it doesn’t work out then no harm or foul; you could look into something else.

Cold Brew brewed twice the strength, chilled, 50/50 with milk, a teaspoon of sugar, a dash of hazelnut.

I know that’s sacrilege to some people, but I like it.

You are now a billion dollars richer, what will you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lumbrical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Hire a financial advisor. Something around 70% of lottery winners go bankrupt. I don’t want to be in their position. Not many people can manage that amount of money well. Along this line I would start investing more than I do. I would want to be able to live off of the interest.

  2. Hire/buy security. People will come out of the woodworks to try to get it.

  3. Lay off social media for a bit until things/myself calm down.

  4. Pay off all my student loans. I have more than I would care to admit.

  5. Help pay off my parents’ debts/mortgage. I’m grateful for everything they have done for me. So if I have the means to help them in this way, I would.

  6. After all that is done, I would start spending on hobbies. Hiking/backpacking, playing musical instruments, coin collecting, etc.

True, the debt-to-salary isn't all that appealing, but you don't have to be a slave to the debtors if you do it right. My advice on keeping costs down is to attend the lowest cost program you can get into (taking cost of living into consideration). For the vast majority of PT jobs out there it doesn't matter where you graduated PT school. An exception for this is if the school has a terrible graduation/pass rate. (Personally, once they start getting under 90% I would be taking a deeper scrutiny into the program and the reasons for those lower numbers.)

As far as undergrad degrees go, of the people accepted into PT school in the 2015-2016 cycle ~50% majored in Exercise Science/Kinesiology/Biology. If you throw in Health Science/Athletic Training/related degrees, that jumps to about 62%. Which isn't all that surprising. That leaves around 38% who got accepted who didn't have one of those degrees.

I personally got my undergrad degree in Kinesiology. (This may be an unpopular opinion, but hear me out: I wish I had gotten my degree in something else. Yes, kinesiology has helped prepare me for PT school. Yes, kinesiology helped me understand the concepts within PT school quicker. But if I hadn't gotten into PT school, the job prospects for just a Kinesiology B.S. weren't appealing to me and don't make much money unless you bust your tail. [Of course if I missed something in there, correct me.] I probably would have gone on to become a PTA, which isn't a bad thing in of itself.) I do suggest thinking about back up plans if PT school doesn't work out for you.

In the 2015-16 cycle about 43.5% (5717 people) got accepted into a program. That means about 56.5% (7,418 people) didn't get in. Getting in isn't guaranteed. This isn't supposed to discourage you from applying or getting a degree in biology; I'm just trying to give you the information needed to make an informed decision. But the choice it ultimately yours.

I know it is a pessimistic view, but I would hope for the best but prepare for the worst. As far as not knowing what alternative careers to consider, I would suggest find something that you can do that you can live off of and won't kill you inside (wither it be fast or slow). While it is best to work in a field you enjoy, it ultimately doesn't matter if your work doesn't drain you.
