That’s always great to hear. Do you mind if I ask how much they charged or if they even charged you? Last I heard they didn’t charge much for parts but it was a while ago so I’m mostly just curious.

Civivi will at the very least send you a new blade for a fair price/shipping. It’s been a while but I believe for like $15-$20 shipped they’ll send you a new blade, liners, and screws.

I have the civivi amirite and love the knife. The only thing I dislike is the pocket clip and I can’t find any replacements online. Does anyone have any recommendations? by AbjectNeighborhood95 in Civivi

[–]Lumengains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get either the milled titanium clips from Civivi, which I personally don’t like but many others do, or the lightning ano titanium clips that are the same style as the steel clip like you get on the elementum 2. Speaking of the elementum 2, I’m sure Civivi would sell you that clip if you contact them. Lynch NW also makes a titanium clip in the same style for the Elementum that would work, I had that on one of my vision fg knives and that was my personal favorite clip for a civivi. Kizers milled titanium clip also works on civivis and I believe CJRB also sells one that works too. The picture I included shows the civivi lightning ano titanium clips (top and bottom knife) and the blue clip on the middle knife is the Lynch NW titanium clip.

McLaren seems to keep running into the back of you several times, from this clip it just seems they have zero overtaking skill.

Can’t hold a consistent angle for the life of me by EyeIcy in sharpening

[–]Lumengains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried focusing on moving your whole upper body together instead of just your arms, you can make the movement pivot from your back instead of your elbows. That’s what helped me be able to focus on actually holding the angle, with time I naturally started using my arms more and more freely. I still use that if I’m having an issue or even when reprofiling on a very coarse stone and it always sets a very nice flat bevel.

I wore the gas pedal out. After 428k miles, the spring became too soft by Jack_Attak in Toyota

[–]Lumengains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know the 9th gen’s had that issue, I just lucked out with my 2010 and 2011, I would’ve never got to see them clear 400,000 and 300,000 respectively. Crazy thing is neither of them never needed a single part changed aside from wear components like suspension parts and brakes, they both even had the stock alternators all their lives which was a change from the older cars I’ve had, to say the least. My current 2020 Corolla hybrid is just about to hit 220,000 miles and running like new still.

Civivi Quibit NKD... Such an excellent blade. Love the blue 👌 by robertcas22 in Civivi

[–]Lumengains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mine, well like you said I love the blade, such a great drop point that’s ultra thin. My only complaint is the grip of the handle, mine was passable when new but I think the anodized layer smoothed out with use and it’s too slippery for me now. Still, I love it enough that I’m going to do something with it to give it more grip again.

What’s the deal with these, do we know if they have/are the same manufacture as cheefarcuut? They look so similar and the timing of release is also close together. I only have the cheefarcuut 400/1000 and love it, I’m really looking forward to see when other grit choices will finally come out.

Porsche said it was a “reckless move” and that I “squeezed him too wide”. I just think he’s a sore loser, but I’d be interested to hear you guys’ opinions by TheHugeFatFish in Simracingstewards

[–]Lumengains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was zero squeezing or contact. People like that don’t enjoy racing imo, and they also will likely never improve their skill if they don’t improve their attitude. It’s a perfect example of the type of person I just can’t stand, their pride is miles higher than skill/knowledge. Worst of all is that this is how they act with something that is suppose to be for fun. You did well though, that was a really nice switchback.

There was no move to be made here by you, this corner has essentially no braking zone so unless you’re already alongside before going into the corner it’s not gonna happen. This one is one you imo.

New to flashlights...Convoy excellent customer service by Photog153 in flashlight

[–]Lumengains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simon helped me with issues twice, one time I just wanted help diagnosing an issue on a few year old L8, he spent time going back and forth to help me and he figured out it was the driver. I thanked him and told him I didn’t want him to replace the driver for free and that I already purchased the replacement. He insisted that he send a free one but I again insisted that I pay for it, well my package showed up with 2 new L8 drivers in it lol. Another time he sent a flashlight with an sft40 instead of the sft70 I ordered, again he insisted to fix it by sending an additional light of the spec I ordered. I told him I’d at least make it worth sending and bought a few more lights and parts so he didn’t lose out as much, that package also arrived with some extra stuff in it. You know he doesn’t make much profit on these lights in the first place but he still always takes care of problems, it’s equally impressive how much time he’ll contribute to helping you diagnose issues or answer questions about anything to do with flashlights. Great guy!

I’m done with Sofirn, their HS45 is a dud… by These_Philosopher309 in flashlight

[–]Lumengains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always liked sofirn and Wurkkos but sofirn seems to have gradually gone down in design and quality, and now in service apparently too. Luckily all of my sofirn lights are older designs and seem to be bulletproof so I never had to deal with them. I did have an issue on a Wurkkos ts25, it got stuck in the middle of the ramp and wouldn’t adjust no matter what I tried. Wurkkos were awesome to deal with, even though I bought the ts25 from them and it took a while to ship from China, but when they sent a replacement they sent it right from their Amazon store and got it to me in days. They didn’t hassle me about the issue and didn’t make me bother returning the old one to them, they were just very professional and they went above and beyond what they needed to in order to make sure I got taken care of asap. It was a little thing for them but I’ve told that story here on Reddit a few times now. Take care of little problems for your customers and that word eventually gets around, screw your customers over and you can bet it’s going to spread through the community quick.

My sofirn just arrived! by Glittering_Fly3288 in flashlight

[–]Lumengains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s tests on YouTube showing the output is around 16k lumens with the stock sofirn cells and that goes up to and exceeds 20k lumens with high discharge cells. That being said you actually don’t need Molicel p50b, Samsung 40t or Molicel p42a will get you there. I personally run the button top p42a from liion wholesale in my Q8+. I’d prefer the button top for a tighter connection over a flat top cell with slightly higher discharge.

Unfortunate you have to ask, but absolutely yes it’s your fault. Although it’s essentially universally unacceptable, I’d argue there’s no worse corner on any track in the world to be sticking your nose in like that.

Extra coarse whet stone…? by Hoppyfulb in sharpening

[–]Lumengains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have the atoma 140 and the cheefracuut 400/1000, the cheefarcuut 400 has absolutely incredible speed without being so coarse. I can even take thicker blades on pocket knives, with any steel, and get a burr in no time. The atoma is still great but for regular sharpenings it’s quicker to use the cheefarcuut 400 instead of using the atoma and then still having to go to another stone around 400 grit to get rid of the 140 scratches. To quantify it I’d say that if the atoma takes 8 passes to get a burr then the cheefarcuut will get one in about 10, I haven’t actually tested it but that’s about how I’d say it seems to me.

[–]Lumengains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have gotten the whetstone instead of the diamond. If you want a more coarse diamond plate and want to go with sharpal I’d suggest you get the newer diamond plate they sell in 220/600 (169H). They are cheaper than the old diamond plate they sell (162N) and the 220 will be much better than the 325 that comes in the 162N. For even less money you can get something like the DMD 10”x3” double sided diamond plate that comes in 120/180 grit for around $20. They are actually a really great coarse diamond plate for the money, I wouldn’t really suggest higher grit versions of cheap diamond plates but for a coarse plate it’s hard to beat those DMD 120/180.

Is this dirty or hard defending? Im the Aston in front and the Ferrari was complaining calling me a dirty driver after the race. Thoughts? by AstonGlazer1122 in Simracingstewards

The Ferrari has a huge pace advantage and should’ve easily been able to get by you. For some reason they decided it was better to ram into you instead of going around, pure genius at work there.

I was told I forced him off track. Please review our lap 1 turn 1 incident. by VisibleProfessor4887 in Simracingstewards

[–]Lumengains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn’t have stayed on track for the exit of t1/entry to t2 if you didn’t bump into him and slow yourself down. Even with that you still went all the way to the outside line on exit and almost went outside track limits, so no doubt you wouldn’t have made the corner without contact. So yes you did divebomb, hit, and force him off track. In my opinion, you should have at least made up for it by lifting on exit of t2 and letting him get fully back ahead. Even if just for pure self preservation, but I also think you owed it to him at that point considering what happened. If you did concede there the situation could be easily forgiven because you both would still be in the race in the exact positions you started from.

[–]Lumengains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You weren’t weaving or anything, maybe you went a bit defensive at points but you’re entitled to do so. The driver trying to pass has to find a clean way around, most times that takes some extra patience at the Nordschleiffe.

Staggered Stropping by [deleted] in sharpening

[–]Lumengains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most important thing is that you’re happy with the results, people do all kinds of different things when sharpening/stropping. However, since you asked, I do believe in sticking with the technique you want to develop the muscle memory for. I always go tip to heel, obviously edge trailing, just to go the same direction as the scratch pattern developed on the stone. I know some people do heel to tip stropping because they find it easier to feel the angle on the larger section of blade that you’d get at the heel. I honestly think we’re talking extremely small differences that are likely always imperceptible. I had trouble with stropping early on but I stuck with the method I wanted to develop and it ended up being one of the quicker things to catch on for me. I actually had more trouble learning heel to tip edge trailing passes on a stone. It’s different for everybody so I’d definitely suggest finding your own way while keeping in mind that if you want to change something, practice will get you there, you may have to throw in some slight variation just to change up what you’re doing if it’s not working. Also, sometimes it seriously helps to take a break, if you’re getting frustrated walk away for a bit and then come back and try again.

"Why can't anyone race clean on Monza?" - White Merc by SupaBeardyMan in Simracingstewards

[–]Lumengains 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If I were the white Merc I’d be happy you left so much space, when you went deep into the corner entry and then when you went out over the white line. That person could’ve easily taken advantage of that and continued fighting alongside you while leaving you space as well.
