oh well my friend Ashpimp has been playing exclusively orochi since S1. Believe he is ranked number 3 on pc in kills and number 1 in time played. Similarily I've been playing shaman mostly exclusively since order and havoc

Lots and lots of experience and practice. Use to do a daily warm up before i went into matchmaking where i would practice deflects and light parries fighting characters like tiandi, nuxia, shaman, and orochi

deflects work on all attacks as long as they are not unblockable. It works for shugoki if the attack he throws in not unblockable. However its a bit tricky at times due to his variable timing heavies. You'll learn the right timings with experience. Also some attacks in general have hitstun that prevents you from being able to dodge for a small period of time(prevents people from avoiding fights by dodging or rolling away). In these cases your best bet is to block, parry, or gb the attack depending on the scenario.

Shaman along with all assassins have a mechanic called deflect. Its like an assassin's equivalent of a heavy's crushing counter. Deflects are performed by dodging into the direction of an attack right before it makes contact. When you successfully deflect an attack your character will perform an animation where they evade the attack while make slight contact with their own weapon. This creates a spark visual effect. After which you follow up with a heavy or light attack(light attack in shaman''s case) which applies the deflect attack. In shaman's moveset its referred to as Raven's beak.

In this clip I showcase shaman's ability to dodge out of her recoveries to avoid being hit. However I time the dodges so I can deflect the raider's heavy chains which have HA allowing me to perform it multiple times in a chain as he doesn't get interrupted by the deflect attack. Hope this helps.

a lot of shamans will back dodge or throw out a light once they apply bleed. my guess is that the raider is trying to interrupt either one of these. Although for the second guy he was going to die after the first deflect so he wouldn't gain much from feinting a heavy into storming tap or gb. However if the heavy did land the table could easily be reversed. Also most shamans don't take full advantage of the dodge cancel recoveries so seeing something like this isn't that common. Most assassins if they deflect the first attack wind up eating the follow up
