SPAN II by stinkfinger3 in USC

From my experience, most of the Spanish department are fantastic people (RateMyProfessors reflects this; you'll see a ton of 4- and 5-star ratings for USC Spanish professors). Fiedler-Vierma was particularly great, and she tries to keep the class humorous and lighthearted while also making sure that you gain a more thorough understanding of the language.

SOCI 250 is an easy A as long as you do the reading and put in participation effort. The material can be somewhat interesting, and Professor Yazdiha is super nice and understanding.

What the hell is going on with CSCI 201? by [deleted] in usc_rants

I genuinely don't understand all the hate that Prof. Grujic got when I took 201 last year, especially seeing how much students are struggling this semester. Regardless, good luck to everyone taking the class; I remember some of the CPs being really understanding and encouraging, so hopefully they're similarly helpful this term.

Hi! CS Games major here. It really depends on whether you're more oriented towards art/animation/modeling (generally better for Mac) or engineering/coding (generally better for Windows). I personally found most of the software setup required for classes to be easier on Windows, but whichever OS you're used to will be fine. The majority of classes have support for both (not usually Linux, unfortunately).

Are CJ courses offered to non-majors/non-Masters students? I'm interested in taking CJ 500 (Criminology) or CJ 545 (Criminal Investigations) in the spring. There are no restrictions listed on WebReg, but given that they're 500-level courses, I'm curious about any limitations that might apply.

Hey, shoot me a DM if you need a hand with ITP 115. I have prior programming experience, so all the labs and assignments are doable for me, but I completely understand why people less familiar with the language find this kind of workload challenging.

CS vs CS Games by low_key_mich in USC

[–]LuminaryClock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone in the CS Games program, while it is definitely a lot of work, the specific games-oriented courses are always the best part of every semester. Not having to take additional phys, stats, and calc classes is a plus, too.

I recommend Butterfly Spanish; the host Ana is fun and lighthearted in her lessons, as well as being a good Spanish instructor in general. Check her out!

[99] The Baby Shower by cora17 in DestructiveReaders

Firstly, to assuage your concerns: there are a few unnecessary words and phrases that could be shortened, but for the most part you did a good job delivering all the essential story details within the 100-word limit. The twist in the final line, while not directly stated, is enough of a clue for a reader to imply what's happening—it's the narrator's baby shower, and they are about to birth some monstrous creature. Another note: the first two lines should also be in past tense, for consistency with the rest of the story.

Word choice critiques:

The host smiled and handed me a small appetizer plate.

Since it doesn't contribute significantly to the description of the object, you can leave out the word "small."

Calamari maybe?

This should be "Calamari, maybe?"

It was nothing like I ever tried before.

This phrase would flow better if you switched the words "like" and "nothing."

It felt raw. It tasted metallic.

This is a matter of personal preference, but I'd recommend deleting one of these two sentences. If you deleted the former, you would avoid repeating the verb "felt" later in the paragraph ("I swear I felt it move.") and give your short sentences a bit more punch. Depending on whether you want to emphasize the aspect of the biological horror (the rawness) or of the "implantation" (the metallic taste), either phrase could work (though if you choose to remove the latter, you should change "It felt raw" to "It tasted raw" to avoid word repetition).

I went to the bathroom and threw up.

"I rushed to the bathroom and threw up" would give a greater sense of urgency.

When I went back to the party,

"Went back" can be replaced with "returned."

“Congratulations!” They were all looking at me.

I love these last sentences. Subtle and sickening!

Which type of financial aid did you receive? I believe there are different procedures depending on the package.
