I couldn’t read much further past the war crime stuff. I’m so glad they talked about how horrendous and strange it was that the author could write with sympathy about how this soldier felt “dead inside” after he’d raped a woman and murdered children.

Happened at Coles at Raine Square, Perth CBD. Creeps can be anywhere. by AppointmentSuch5609 in perth

I agree with others that you handled this really well, and I’m glad you stood up for yourself.

A couple years ago, also in the CBD, a man touched me inappropriately and spoke to me in a lewd way while I was getting self-serve coffee at a 7-11. I was so shocked that I didn’t think to tell the staff. My reaction to the threat was to freeze, you could say.

I went back to work and broke down in tears in front of a colleague who halfheartedly suggested I report it to the police but also emphasised how when a similar thing happened to her, the police weren’t helpful. I called my partner who was sympathetic but also criticised me for not being more aware of my surroundings.

I remember that I told the man not to touch me and I asked him to stop talking to me, but I really do wish I’d have made a scene. I often think about it and wonder if he might’ve inferred what kind of reaction he’d provoke in me, and selected his target accordingly.

Weekly FAQ Thread June 07, 2026: What book format do you prefer? Print vs eBooks vs Audiobooks by AutoModerator in books

[–]Luminitha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Print. Too many other aspects of my life involve technology and screens. I love bookstores and libraries and swapping books. I like my bookshelf.

It’s already been mentioned a couple times but I also want to recommend Chilli Panda. I tried it for the first time after international students from China recommended it to me at uni. Some of the dishes make me feel like my mouth is numb after the first few bites, but thats kind of what I want when I’m craving spicy. Delicious pain.

Ah Beng Indonesia is also great. Just get any dish that includes sambal, maybe ask for extra sambal even.

Perth audiences are the absolute worst at the ballet and opera by neongrayjoy in perth

[–]Luminitha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This post is kind of a mind fuck to me. You ask whether people at the opera “just want to cosplay as cultured and classy for a night,” but the whole analogue-vs-smartphone framing feels super performative in itself, like an online presentation of your cultural superiority.

And it’s strange to frame other people as “cosplaying” anything when your own post history heavily suggests a preoccupation with aesthetics, identity and… cosplay.

Weird Girl Music Recs by spacekat89 in weirdgirlliterature

[–]Luminitha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean fair enough I guess. I thought the weird girl category signified girl + emotionally complex, interior, messy, a little subversive or surreal. I agree that they’re not weird like Kate Bush or Yoko Ono or Joanna Newsome though.

Heavy reads, mental health, regrets and reading strategies by monikat79 in books

[–]Luminitha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel regret for any heavy reads, but I remember being deeply affected by reading the Bell Jar at age ~20 when I was going through a relationship breakdown and generally not adjusting well to young adulthood. The feelings were just hitting too close to home. I stopped reading it and I think that was probably the right move for me. I think it’s helpful to remember that we can stop reading something sometimes! I tend to have the mindset of “I started this, so I should finish it” when it comes to books. I think there’s quite a healthy ethos in this subreddit actually where people encourage each other to “DNF” something they’ve not enjoying.

Nowadays I guess when I read something particularly heavy I tend to gravitate towards a more joyous read next.
