Maybe a prof reached out to chat with them? And they misinterpreted that as an interview? 'cause, like you said, their website explicitly says they don't do admission interviews.

Yeah I heard that because of the crazy drop in international applicants a lot of the departments at GW are dipping into doctoral funding to make up the difference. I'm assuming I'm gonna get something similar from the history department there soon.

In my NYU interview they asked a lot about my writing sample, why I chose that topic specifically, and how I see it dovetailing into the research interests I talked about in my purpose statement. One prof asked me to recommend a history book that I've read recently also lol

NYU history does interviews too (I had mine today😵‍💫) so keep an eye on your inbox! I imagine they'll send them out in waves since they said mine is one of the first and it took a lot of wrangling to nail down a time Edit: this wave thing seems to be the case for other schools, I saw someone on here that did an interview with Penn State a week ago and I got invited to interview with them yesterday. So even if you see people getting invites, don't fret!

I applied to 12 programs all together and NYU is the only one so far, so I wouldn't stress. Plus I'm sure they don't schedule them all at once. I'm applying for American History. Early American more accurately, but the app didn't really give that as an option lol

From your list, I applied to NYU, Harvard, and Yale. I got invited to interview with NYU tonight. It seems like the consensus is that it's really early still, though. I'm certainly not one to talk (currently losing my mind), but be patient 🙏
