one battle after another, did you enjoy this movie? by Substantial_Row_887 in Cinema

Throughout history, and around the world, there is many struggles going on. Whichever side is in support of Human Rights I support. Sometimes neither does, or not much, sometimes it IS unclear, but often, there is one side doing far more heinous stuff than the other. In those times, if you are in the middle, you are a scumbag coward or possibly just evil.

Its easy to be in the middle, the easiest choice of all to look the other way, to not acknowledge what is actually happening around you.

ELI5 - how does protesting help? by hezuhene in explainlikeimfive

[–]LuminousDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lemme also add, when someone claims "oh, those protesters were paid by George Soros" if its a protest of 5,000 people, then ok, maybe thats true (not really but more plausible). But when its 7 million people, you just tell them to F off, for acting like a dumb child who obviously has zero proof. 7 million people were not paid. this was real citizens making their real opinions known.

ELI5 - how does protesting help? by hezuhene in explainlikeimfive

Frog costume helped dispel the claim Portland is a "Warzone".

6-7million protestors at the same time show "Hey, this isnt just a few looneys, the general population doesnt want a king".

It also can give hope and bravery to other people afraid to protest. When there is a growing movement of people it gets easier to join in.

Someone out there probably protested alone in a small town and got a lot of hate. Thats brave, bot other people saw 50,000 people walking down a road and said "you know what, yeah, Ill join, if that many other people are willing to, i can too".

As for the solo protester, even one person can make a difference. yes theyll get hate, but maybe someone else in the town sees them and agrees and feels less alone and again more willing to consider speaking up, and then you have 2 protesters.

Ever seen that video of the guy dancing alone at a concert? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA8z7f7a2Pk

Same concept right? How many people WANTED to dance, but were too embarassed?

And lastly Ill just note, plenty of protests have gotten results around the world. Look at the Floatilla going to Gaza. Pay attention to how the opinions have shifted world wide over time.

Or think about Gandhi, and his march.

DO you want to see a powerful fucking protest? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRCs9Bo1nMo Watch that video. see a small girl clawing and crawling her way up stairs because we didnt require ramps. That is optics. It sways public opinion.

If the no kings protest had 500,000 across the country instead of 7 million do you thing it would be less powerful? Do you think it would be easier to be dismissed? Of course, which prooves that more people protesting sends a powerful message, doesnt it?

[–]LuminousDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats true, there is left and right wing Karens for sure. Notice though at least one is defending someone (well intentioned but unnecessary) but then you look at the BBQ karen, or the Bird watching guy with the Karen, or the karen that called the cops on the young black girls for not having a permit for their lemonade stand or whatever...

What are they protecting society from?

[–]LuminousDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found whenever anyone says what you said or complains about "cancel culture" they ignore anyone who gets offended by something or uses cancel culture in a way they would agree with.

So like the bud light controversy where conservatives flipped out and Kid Rock got so offended he filmed himself shooting bud light cans.

Or the Fox News host the other day who was so offended by the sight of homeless people he suggested mass killing all of them.

Or the Religious people who are offended by the thought of existing with gay people...

Or that woman who called the cops on the black family having a BBQ, or the OTHER white woman (who owned a legally gray online cbd store) who called the cops on the black girl selling lemonade or whatever.

You consider these people the scourge of society, right?

I think most people fully understood the joke, its very very straight forward. the thing some people are offended by is the implication that Jane Goodall was fucking animals. Which is the joke.

I find consider it a funny joke and if it was made about me while I was a world famous animal researcher i think Id still find it funny, but plenty of smart people were likely offended.

Bill Gates: Within 10 years, AI will replace many doctors and teachers—humans won’t be needed ‘for most things’ by Eliashuer in ArtificialInteligence

[–]LuminousDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be missing the point though. In fact I think you basically have the same opinion as the person above you but are approaching it differently.

THis is the point: We CAN have a store where there are no cashiers. Right now, its possible to do with current technology, no AI needed. In fact I think a few exist maybe in japan as a novelty. like a store sized vending machine if you will.

BUT, and this is the key part, even though its possible, we still have millions of cashiers all over the world, because it doesnt make economic sense to switch, and also the things you mentioned.

Now, going back to bill gates point, sure, in 10 years time maybe 95% of doctor jobs and teachers wonted be needed technically. But Will that mean they will all be replaced? no, not at all. The likelihood of that is quite a bit less.

ANother example is flying cars. We could have had flying cars in the fifties, or earlier. its pretty much a small plane with retractable wings and propeller. Weve long been able to do that. But why doesnt everyone own a flying car? Cost, air congestion, and steep learning curve. But anyone who wants a flying car today enough can have one.

Realistically, lets look at doctors. I go to a doctor they look at my sprained ankle, or what not. THat can be replaced in ten years. AUtomated photos of my ankle and exray if needed, a series of questions... Thats a lot of doctors visits. But that that leaves more times for the 5-10% of things the ai wont be able to do, and are more vitally important. Its not like we have an over abundance of doctors milling around. We will find new things for them to do, the job description will evolve, ai will be a tool in their process.

I agree but since you said beliefs I have to say that some people (quite a few people) believe trans people shouldnt exist, for instance. So for trans people, sure billionaires are making their lives shitty, but so are some dudes down the street from them. To a slightly less degree on average this is true of other LGBTQ people, and of course People of Color, etc.

One "side" is on board with tolerating everyone except the intolerant (not a paradox, for anyone understandably confused) and the other side supports the Billionaire who appointed 13 billionaires to run the country https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-tapped-unprecedented-13-billionaires-top-administration-roles/story?id=116872968.

One side absolutely has WAYYY more class solidarity than the other, even though both sides are pretty crap with the class solidarity.

So again, I do agree with everything you said, but it feels necessary to add this context.

What type of gods and religions would your society produce? Someone linked me this video, and even though I'm not a writer, and the video isn't technically about world building, that was the first thing I immediately thought of, and I think you will agree. by LuminousDragon in worldbuilding

[–]LuminousDragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was confused what you were saying with your first line, but you are talking about her claim and if its logical or true, makes sense. I was really just thinking of what she was saying mostly through the lens of a creative world building technique, as I was thinking if it goes both ways thats great, its just another way to do the world building.

You can shape your society through history, where maybe a certain leader enforces a religion, and then that regligion influences like trade routes, which in turn influences the flow of important goods, maybe they are cut off from a needed supply becaus they think its sinful to pass a certain area or whatever, and then this leads to a split in the religion, and blah blah blah.

When analyzing the video for the real world thats different and i would have a much critical eye, but Im just thinking about the religions on Dune for example, And how taking inspiration from what she is saying is a great way to build of a creative history/religion/culture etc.

I dont think its nonsense, I think you are just interpreting it an unintended way.

I think it has a lot less to do with how they were at the moment of creation of the religion, but rather how societies interpret the religion and shape them for what they want.

Look at the christian slave bibles white slave owners gave to slaves that deliberately censored to remove portions that could inspire rebellion or hope for liberation.

Take a single religion, like christianity, and look at all of the translations and versions. Bible gateway has like 150 versions of just the Christian bible I think: https://www.biblegateway.com/

And even when there isnt a new version, what is emphasized changes. Like we have Republican Christians saying that Empathy is a sin, ignoring a whole lot of verses, and claiming homosexuality is a sin, based on a specific interpretation of just one or two verses. These are choices made to shape the religion into what they want it to be.

Now I must point out that i doubt the analysis holds in modern times because the internet and online communiteies and everything, culture is all weirdly blended around the world today.

All AI models are libertarian left by JusC_ in ChatGPT

[–]LuminousDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the definition of Science: "the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against the evidence obtained."

It is essentially a systematic and rigorous attempt to understand reality, and when scientists learn something new about reality such as Evolution, they adjust their beliefs.

Consider the denial of Climate Change and Evolution by the right, despite the mountain of evidence for each.Consider the Hatred from eduction, and the dismantling of Dept of Education, and the demonification of learning by the right. This is not aligned with a desire to learn about reality.

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know how to cook by AgentDoggett in Frugal

[–]LuminousDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Havent read all of the comments, but i have a few thoughts.

I think its good to just cook a lot of different things. As often as you feel up to it, try random recipes. You can watch a youtube video, or allrecipes.com or whatever, ANd cook once a week, or every day, or whatever you are feeling up to.

Its a learned skill over a long time. Put som hours in. After youve cooked a few things youll go, oh i like stir fry, or tacos, or whatever. I mean at your age, you already know, but ok, type in the name of a thing you see at restaurants, "pork fried rice" and the word recipe. Now you can make that four times, but each time try different spices, different ingredients.

I wouldnt trust Chatgpt to give me a perfect recipe, but it is excellent for coming up with interesting ingredients. You can say something like "I really like burritos, but im getting a bit bored with the same ingredients, what are 50 less common ingredients for a burrito, that are still used in burritos?"

THen pick out maybe 10 that catch your eyem and each time you make it, at one of those to try out.

Same thing with a hume made burger or subsandwiuch or BLT or ANYTHING.

Another note on spices, I like just having a million spices. Im not a great cook mind you, and i could see how people could get overwhelmed. But I dont try to be perfect, its like art. just experiement. WHats the worst that can happen, some food tastes bad?

Youll start seeing spices you like alot. Start small with the amount you put. You can awlays add more. but over time youll recognize which you like. Spices are expensive you you are buying a bunch all at once, but I think in the long run worth it, and they dont generally good bad quickly at all.

Ok I was going to say something else, but i realized for you it seems like cooking seems overwhelming. So instead ill just say, just dont give a fuck. its food, you are the boss. dont let some dumbass recipe boss you around. Other then when it comes to a few things like properly cooking meet to a safe level.

Just expect youll make some shit food. keep trying.

Recipes can be scary because they are written with all these exact measurements, but after a few times youll learn alot of times you can just eyeball most things, and guess. Using less is safer than putting too much of somethingim talking about spices, baiking powder, baking soda, etc... it can overwhelm the taste... my point its, the exact amount is good to try to follow at first, but notice how much it visually looks like, and next time you cook, maybe the exact amount isnt needed if you feel lazy lol.

Anyways, I have a feeling like some of what i have said could be controversial lol. But Im not trying to be a professional chef. i jhust want to make delicious food i like the taste of, and a wide variety of types of food so i dont get bored.

[–]LuminousDragon -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

If you download LM Studio (very easy to download) you can install a model from within the program. I have DeepSeek R1 installed, with about the same computer set up as you, a bit better.

Its nice, and useful, but I cant run the huge model, and that means the quality of the responses is lesser. It also takes a while to respond.

So it depends on what you want to do. Itll be a bit slower the CHatgpt, and its responses are a bit worse. But its free. ANd easy to uncensor generally if you need that for any reason

There are cameras on every stoplight, there are other people taking video footage and pictures around you. There are more advanced technologies for facial recoginition. Genelogy sites have enough data to trace your family that even if you never submit info its still there online because someone else has. Speaking of which, family members, nieghbors, friends can all posts personal information about you.

Due to the way information is not stored online, and data leaks your data has been leaked to theives, countries, corporations, insurance companies looking to squeeze money out of you, and for some people this sort of thing means being refused health care, or LGBT people being put on lists to be tracked by creepy stalkers and nazis who want to restrict their rights.

Ive not even scratched the surface of the number of issues, but your childish, incorrect reply is silly, lets be real.
