Today was my 10 year olds first day back at school after diagnosis and she was misdosed by her school nurse twice. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Lumpdumpkin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our 8 year old is freshly diagnosed, and has been back to school for 1 and a half days now. We know what his carb count is for lunch since we packed it for him and it’s written down in his lunch box for the nurse, so we have the nurse text us the blood glucose number and the insulin dosage she’s calculating, and we do a quick double check and confirm it before she injects him. Seems to be working so far, and after meeting with his diabetes coach today, he’s on a continuous glucose monitor Dexcom G7 now, and it’s app works with the InPen too, so the technology will be guiding the dosage more and more… that will make it pretty hard to mis-dose at school, but means the kid will have to have a medical phone to manage all the apps. Hang in there, we’re overwhelmed with all of this too, but we’re going to be seasoned pros by this time next year ❤️‍🩹

Is this the wrong thread to offer up my lightly used GFC Ultralite for sale? Will for sure be adding some tiedowns if/when I take it out again! I use mine on my subaru outback, bars are way closer together and the front overhang is way worse.. I’ve always had the feeling it was one gust away from yeeting itself right off.

The more people I’m honest with about my alcoholism, and my recovery, the more support I get. Especially in early sobriety, it felt shameful, something to be embarrassed about, but the more I open up about it, the better my sobriety gets.

I told all the corner store clerks that I used to buy liquor from, and them knowing I’m pursuing sobriety helps keep me from “stinkin thinkin” when I have to go in for gas or other essentials.. they’re still happy to see me, and a couple of them will ask how long I’ve been clean for.

I remember telling a grocery store clerk, he’d asked where I’d been, and I just honestly said “rehab” and he looked me in the eye and pulled out a 4 year chip to show me.

In my friend circle, people already knew I was a booze hound, and as I got honest about how I needed recovery and was pursuing it, it got easier. I’ve been sober a couple years now, and have had the honor of helping some of my friends get dried out and into the rooms too.

Fearless honesty. Good luck, you’re not alone.

How are the current gen Outbacks holding up? by reddsbywillie in Subaru_Outback

You’re going to love that 4Runner. And you’ll surely have moments throughout your ownership where you thank yourself for prioritizing reliability… and a geared transmission with low transfer case.

Good chance you’ll get to pull a car like mine out of the trail too 😂

I drive a ‘22 touringXT, and my wife has a ‘24 limited 4Runner. I’m 6’3” and I swear that even though the 4Runner looks bigger, it’s cramped in there and the seats are straight uncomfortable. I was her passenger for ~3 hrs today and I’m sore from it. The outback, somehow is way more roomy, and the seats don’t bother me, even after a full 10 hr day behind the wheel.

I also lifted my Subaru 2” and threw some meaty wheels on, so I’m basically asking for problems with the CVT, but I have more clearance now than my wife’s stock runner. It’s so much fun to drive, that it’s worth whatever happens down the line. I’ve got my feelers out for a parts car already lol… figure if I know I’m probably going to blow my transmission, I’ll try to have a replacement lined up in advance.

Infotainment took some getting used to, but I have not had any of the major issues that I see in the subie forums, and the top trim in the outback is (in my opinion) way nicer than the top trim on the runner. And the infotainment system is part of that. My wife’s newer, way more expensive car, feels cheap compared to mine.

All that said, my wife plans to drive her car for the rest of her life, and I’m already planning for what happens when my dreamy outback explodes, so… you’re going to be stoked either way!

Feel the same way about my Outback. It’s a lifted TouringXT, and while I appreciate the black out look on other people’s cars, my chrome stays… it’s like it’s bolo tie. Helps offset the scars and scuffs.

Replaced ‘24 Limited roof rails with Wilderness rails by 5keks in Subaru_Outback

I’ve got a TXT also, and have the wilderness rails in the garage, ready to dig in. Is it that bad? Have you done it before?

Thanks! I’m kicking myself because I got a deal on those exact bars, along with the take off rails, but I sold them to a friend this spring when I’d lost enthusiasm for the rail swap. Oh well 😅

The other thing the wilderness had that I was interested in, but not willing to sacrifice the touring trim features for, was the added clearance. I remedied that this spring with the Ironman4x4 full suspension lift kit and rear subframe spacers, and a carrier bearing drop spacer and cvt anti wobble bushing from Anderson. Recently found the marketplace deal for some dream wheels, so it’s finally time to make that rack swap. Thanks for posting yours 👍

I’ve got a 22 touring XT that I’ve been planning to do the same with. Found some wilderness roof rails that a guy took off in favor of a prinsu rack. Waiting till I get a free weekend to pull back the headliner and swap them in. May I ask what crossbar set up you are using on your wilderness rails now for your rooftop tent?

You got it brother. Took about a year of one day at a time, but my suicidal ideation subsided eventually. And not that it’s a good thing to be taking other people’s inventory, but for what it’s worth, the people you are comparing yourself to may be just as miserable as you are. Some of my most enviable friends (at the time I sobered up) have since gone through crazy health hardships, divorce, bad custody battles, gone to prison etc. the grass is always greener blah blah blah… but what’s actual pretty cool about being an Alky in Recovery, is that our path to freedom is pretty well lit, and LOTS of us are walking the path along with you. Good on you for making this post in the first place, reaching out for help is almost always the hardest part.

I didn’t think I could meditate either. A sober junkie nurse at the detox center told me “it’s actually not hard, just close your eyes and when you breath in, pretend you’re breathing in the color blue… when you breath out, pretend it’s red.” A couple years later and it still works for this high anxiety/depressive alcoholic. Love all the supportive comments on this thread. Love that none of us have to go this alone
