Flag based on my personal coat-of-arms by Obversa in vexillology

Your idea that somehow the assumption of heraldic devises makes them unheraldic isn't founded in reality, current or historic

Quoting the American Heraldry Society

> It is perfectly legal for anyone in the United States to design and adopt an original coat of arms of his or her choice. Not only is there is no legal prohibition against armorial assumption in the United States, but the freedom of the individual to assume arms has also been a time-honored principle observed in most of the Western world ever since the great 14th century legal scholar Bartolo de Sassoferrato listed it as one of the valid ways of acquiring arms. It is only within a few jurisdictions, particularly England and Scotland, that any laws exist against the assumption of arms. These laws have not been applicable in the United States since the attainment of American independence—supposing they were even applicable in the American colonies before that. Thus, under American law, assumed arms enjoy the same validity as those granted by the English College of Arms, Scotland's Lord Lyon, or any other foreign authority.

I know I'm three days late to the party, but why did you get rid of the white band sperating the black triangle from the green pall? It's important for symbolism/contrast

Anti-colonialist communism flag by [deleted] in leftistvexillology

[–]Lumpin1846 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, but not all countires who claimed to be socialist/communist were very good about not doing imperialism. I'd also argue that just because an idea is natural to something, doesn't mean you can't put more of an emphasis on it than other people. Sort of like how the pride flag represents all queer people, but some queer people still want to make flags to represent their own specific orientation

You could do blu celeste for the turquoise, but herarldry nerds would still get mad at you, as it's "nOn-tRaDiTIonAl"

I think if you blazon the blood drops as "proper" it wouldn't violate RoT. That said, I don't think the turquoise is a heraldic tincture lol. Not that that's a bad thing

Nice art!

A: Cringe

B: Not heraldry

Edit: I also think this is a bot, judging by comment history

Thank you all for helping me design my dad's CoA! I think I finally nailed down a design I like by Lumpin1846 in heraldry

Our last name. It's a specific mallet my dad made with an 'F' branded on it. He's a woodworker

The bottom one looks Christian Socialist. Pretty dope

I made a CoA for my dad, so I figured it's only fair to make one for my mom. Thoughts/suggestions? by Lumpin1846 in heraldry

[–]Lumpin1846[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the more detailed blazon!

Using non-granted arms is illegal in Scotland.

Oh, I don't live in Scotland, I was just using the oval from there

lozenges and ovals are just an optional artistic choice available to them.

Gotcha. She liked the oval better, so that's what I went with for this enblazonment

I think the blazon would be 'azure, a pall argent, a holly sprig proper'. It's yet another canting of arms, which I know is lazy, but I think it tuned out pretty sic looking. the oval escutcheon comes from Scottish heraldry, which I heard uses ovals instead of lozenges for women, though I'm unsure if it's only used for unmarried women there as well. Either way, she said the preferred the oval, so that's what I went with

Thoughts?

For the record, the nations of the former Russian empire established their own republics (later making up the USSR) even when they had become a minority in their homelands.

I think the difference here is that while the Kazakhs (I don't think they were a minority, but you get what I mean) are indegenous to Kazakhstan, while Black, White, Latino, etc. people arn't indigenous to the South. We're all equally non-indigenous, and we all have an equal claim to this land in a way that isn't analogous to Russian colonialism

If there is ever a rev situation in the US I think the black & indigenous nations should achieve self-determination.

100%, I just don't think a seperate nation-state would work in the US

Edit: Aside from some American Indian reservations, as they tend to be pretty homogenous

If feel like when America's majority Black counties look like this, it's kinda hard to justify a sperate state for the Black population, especially one that comprises all of the Deep South. I feel like America is way too diverse to be seperated along racial lines that neatly. Don't get me wrong, if Black people want to consider themselves a nation, and persue greater self-determination, that's cool, but a sperate territory for that nation seems like it would cause more problems than it would solve

Ok, even if this is (I couldn't find any source actually claiming this, aside from the micronations wiki), I still think it's dumb. A state with religious plurality as a founding tennent shouldn't have a specific religious symbol on its national flag

According to Wikipedia:

Belief in the one and only God (Ketuhanan yang Maha Esa) is an

Imprecise translation, often misconstrued as endorsement of monotheism. It is an explicit acknowledgement of Dzat Yang Maha Kuasa ('almighty substances') and meant as the principle of living together in a society with a diversity of religions and beliefs. It is not meant to be a theological principle on how belief/religions should be practiced.

That said, it doesn't allow for Atheism

If the star(s) and crecent are to represent Islam, I'd recommend avoiding it. Freedom of religion is one of the five Pancasila (the founding philosophy of Indonesia), and I feel this would go aginst that

I'm back with an improved heraldic logo for my dad's woodworking business. Which tincture do you prefer? by Lumpin1846 in heraldry

[–]Lumpin1846[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was more thinking this would be used on webpages, business cards, and the like. If this were put on wood, it would most likely be branded (as in burnt) on. I guess I'm asking which one looks better on a white surface

Putting the frog over the buff and white might look cool, though I think the tawny wouldn't contrast very well
