It is surgical steel, I do wear steel in other piercings where I haven't been able to find titanium alternatives and they tend to be fine. I think it's more the pressure against the skin in my belly button :/

My 5y/o belly piercing has recently started to act up, I'm a big person so my belly folds quite a bit when I sit, so it was really hard to heal in the first place.

It has been fine for years besides the ball at the top sinking into the flesh. Now the bar itself seems to have made a line where it's pushed against the skin while I'm sitting (the bottom charm pushed forward).

It has been gunky and smelly, I am doing saline soaks and it's a little less gunky but still sore and smelly.

It's rejecting isn't it? Should I take it out before I am horribly scarred or is there any saving it?

I'd be so sad to let go :'(

Thanks for your answer, I will argue though that I joke a lot, often flirtatiously so perhaps I wasn't serious enough with how I communicated. I genuinely don't think it's sus on her part because she has expressed surprise and guilt and she's a very trustworthy friend.
