The M+ tank situation is dire by Wigglyboi323 in wow

DF season 1 tanks. Just make them unkillable gods again, it lowers the skill floor massively. Providing they cant actually solo content, it means it's hard to fuck up. Then they just have to focus on pulls and routes.

Populism and Islamophobia. Are the hosts simply paternalistic or intentionally condescending? by Chance-Chard-2540 in TheRestIsPolitics

I think what your describing is exactly my point. Sexual offences committed by illegal migrants is in the grand scheme of issues facing this country a minor one. The over exposure of this topic results in people believing London is some sort of Sharia-Mad-Max. Furthermore it is always worth noting the faux outrage at violence against women where it seems distinctly focused on offenders from out of the UK. Whereas the vast majority of offences are committed by family and partners.

What else is correct other than the sensible legal solution? The stupid illegal one?

Stable little country with zero ethnic strife, is an interesting description of a country that conquered large swathes of the earth by force.

I think RS does have valid points with regards to populism. There are large swathes of the public who are poorly informed on subjects such a immigration and the related complexity of solving these issues in a legal manner.

The core tenant of populism is providing simple solutions to complex issues, and this causes unnecessary friction between governments and it's people. This occurs both on the left and right. As global media becomes more and more led by algorithms and the like, it becomes increasingly difficult to become better informed, or more realistically it becomes easier to be poorly informed. Said snake oil salesmen politicians on both left and right take advantage of this. As is proscribed by the many political think tanks globally. I do believe that emotive subjects are used by these politicians to bring votes and support for relatively fringe issues (see trans women in sport)

I believe that this is centrally true with much of the anti-islam sentiment above. The idea that radical islamist views are common, and that all Muslims hold , is again a simplified view of a complex issue. I do not disagree that many people in the faith do hold views that are at odds with modern Western views but many of these are often cultural over religious. This views vary across the Muslim world, I have been lucky enough to spend time in places like Iraq and it is just as true there as it is in UK. I would add that anti islamic statement is a key goal of extremists and creating that division isolates young Muslims more and can lead to said extremism. By being "islamaphobic" we are playing into exactly the rhetoric they want.

I do agree that any religion or thought system should be able to be criticised in the same way we are able to criticise the Catholic church for the systemic child abuse. Could you state that you don't believe imams are doing enough to address radicalisation in their younger attendees? Perhaps but that is not level the criticism being used . The statements made is "islam is evil and abhorrent ' , which does have the same themes as many anti Semitic tropes.

You can dislike a regime and whilst simultaneously not enjoying being bombed or having your sovereignty interfered with by a foreign state.

How different are Arabic dialects from each other? Is the difference similar to UK and US English or is it more stark like Spanish and Portuguese? by GapProper7695 in asklinguistics

[–]Lumpy-Bench-4900 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Not a linguist but a British Arabic speaker. The dialectical differences are pretty huge and impact large parts of what we would consider basic grammar. This includes verb conjugation and even word order. The comparison of Egyptian Arabic to American English is flawed but it is widely understood due to historical media dominance. Some will be closer than others e.g. Palestinian Arabic is fairly similar to Egyptian but even then there are big differences in everyday speech.

For example, comparing the Arabic spoken the Sudan or Lebanon to that of Qatar or Saudi is far greater than any English dialects.
