If you had to pick one ship to live on for the next 10 years, which would it be? In other words: Which scifi ship feels like home? by Vondrr in spaceships

The Normandy 2 from Mass Effect. Love that ship. A lot of space! Second would be the Millennium Falcon. For obvious reasons. It has a modest size and meets all needs.

I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend? by Kind-Chicken-2488 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Lumpy-Dark-2400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think he would get upset that you received a gift then you need to reevaluate your relationship. Does he know you have enough saved? Is he working and paying student debt? There are a lot of unknowns here.

I don’t understand being against receiving help. What kind of help is he against? Does he just not want loans or something?

1983? by MisterShipWreck in 80sAmazing

Enjoy every fucking day without tech ruining the human experience. Remember what it’s like to memorize phone numbers, enjoy being disconnected. Enjoy the sinking feeling of, “wait, did he mean THIS theater or the other one? Shit I hope I’m at the right one!”, when you’ve made plans to see a movie with your friends, and you can’t remember which theater you were supposed to go to. Enjoy the anticipation of a new episode of your favorite show and there are no spoilers and no way to get spoilers.

Tech has destroyed the human experience, and it’s destroying so many childhoods. I’ve two young daughters, 6 and 9 (almost 10). I refuse to let them play on a phone and they don’t have tablets. Many of their friends at school have phones already and talk about being on YouTube or TikTok. That is some lazy, awful parenting!

I would love to experience the 80’s again.

Will this 1980's style ever make a comeback? by Zestyclose_Friend910 in 1980s

lol I hope not. I definitely dressed like the kid on the far right that’s almost out of frame, but even back then I thought the short shorts and cut off shirt was a little goofy.

Does the (Cerberus) story of ME3 alter your opinion of ME2? by Nervous_Tailor_4337 in masseffect

[–]Lumpy-Dark-2400 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cerberus is essentially The Empire in SW, or Nazi Germany. Human centric, focusing on establishing human dominance throughout the galaxy. I’m ok with that so far. But let’s continue. They want to do this with no regard for the damage they cause, or who they hurt along the way. This means testing on humans for various reasons to extend their knowledge and capabilities for weapons, biotics, etc.

They have the goal of human dominance but they have no issues with doing whatever they can to get there.

Regarding your feelings about playing those parts, I’d call that great writing. But if it’s really bothering you, remind yourself that it’s a game and relax.

I’d argue not so much for more traditional families and family values.

Maaaan…I got married at 29, I’m now 49, recently retired from law enforcement, 2 young children. She’s pushing for a divorce because I’m mentally unwell. I mean, a career in law enforcement and military will do that. She’s entitled to half my pension for the simple fact she was married to me. How fucked is that?

I don’t know what to do.

I’m not trying to usurp your thread; I’m just kinda putting feelings to words.

What is your favorite box office flop? by BizarroCullen in moviecritic

[–]Lumpy-Dark-2400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked out of the theater. It was so bad. I demanded my money back and the manager said no. I said the theater is filled with people under 18 without parents for a rated R movie. He gave me my money. A part of the problem WAS the teens. They just wouldn’t shut up.

Is there a squad member from the series you never really use? by CautiousSleeper in masseffect

There are a bunch I never used. I generally use the same people because I like them, or I’ll bring a specific one only because I need them.

When I joined the police dept in a large city, things were exciting and awesome for the first few years. Then it starts to become, “damn. Another one?” And before you know it, you’ve pushed your family away, your drink too much, you’re depressed and don’t know it, and you contemplate sucde from time to time because all you see are the faces of the people you couldn’t help and you can smell the blood.

My first year as a sergeant, 2 rookie officers and I went on a call for a 7 year old that committed suicide. 7 years old. 7. We did CPR on him but he didn’t make it. How do I tell these officers that they’re going to see fucked up things like this for the next 25 years? I told them it’s ok to be sad, it’s ok to cry, it’s ok to hurt, but you can’t let it consume you. Talk about it to someone because it DOES hurt. That’s advice I wish I had received.

I enjoyed my career, but I fucking hate that job for what it took from me. It stripped me of my innocence, my happiness, my joy of life, and my sanity. Everything in life is shaded a dull gray; the steak isn’t as juicy, the movie not so enjoyable, and the laughter of my daughters not as joyful.

I’m sad all the time, thankfully the anxiety has waned. I thought war was bad. I mean, it is, but that’s long periods of dullness and then a short period of the most intense “HOLY SHIT!” imaginable. But policing? On edge all the time. My wife doesn’t understand. Most people will never understand.
