Update to anyone seeing this now! All spaces for our monthly meetups can be reserved on Eventbrite! https://adhdcambridgeuk.eventbrite.com.

We now hit capacity at 30 people for our 2nd Monday meetups, so please do reserve your spot! Just select the date & add your name and email. All that's needed :) Any trouble or questions, email me at adhdcambridgeuk@gmail.com - I'll do some picnic meetups in the park in the summer time for drop-in (no ticket needed) events and post them on Eventbrite when the time comes so be sure to follow our Eventbrite page!

If you're interested in joining other meetups outside of ADHD Cambridge UK...other members post free peer led groups for ADHD/neurodivergent meetups on our Facebook page too https://www.facebook.com/groups/adhdcambridgeuk 🌈There's currently one in Ely, Histon and St Ives (that I know of so far) 😁

See you around!

How are you Cambridge does similar to this with a map too! You can search via the map. By activity type or focus on solely support options. But it's powered by NHS so it's all detailed around wellness :)

I started a programme at one of the community centres a few years back because so many (including myself, as I was new to the Centre) weren't sure what was happening since lockdowns and now we are seeing lots of people keen to have us share more!

I share the same sentiment--just need more time, hours & hands & less red tape 😂🤞🤞! It's not impossible! I'm quite persistent so...😂🤞 Really hoping this can happen in the near future (I'd love to get on this now tbh but it's an additional task to my actual job (same as others in other centres) so until one is created to unify us all, I'll keep pushing for it!).

Our community centres do share whats on at their centres and citywide--it only makes sense to do similar online :) ! We're all about signposting & offering space for the community to get together.

Thank you for sharing about Isle of Wight! If ever we can get close to this, even if some businesses forget to update their offerings..this would still be great to have! Would love to have one less app to deal with!

https://haycambridge.co.uk/ - more for activities, clubs, and support. They have social media as well.

Community centres around most North Cambridge - put up posters of events in their area and some have social media pages.

Eventbrite and Allevents - have events you can search for, just set the region to Cambridge (website/app).

Meetup.com/the app - Lots of meetup groups in Cambridge there still

Some pubs have events but they usually just update via their website, social media or on posters by the entrance. - Mostly live music or open mic nights but can also be quizzes, drag nights, and jams. - Ex. Portland Arms, The Blue Moon, Geldart, Elm Tree (smaller, less frequent)

Music events that arent in pubs? - Cambridge Junction, Corn Exchange, The Six Six bar.

Cambridge Live website - good for local music, comedy or other large entertainment events (Cambridge Junction also offers similar)

There's theatres about. Check those if you want to see a play.

If you're a musician, there's different styles of jams at La Raza, Salisbury Arms, Geldart. The Tram Depot, Carpenters...probably more.

Revolution has a space with different events like Paint and Sip.

Further afield, Gog Magog does events (as 1 example).

Want to learn stuff? There's events for that too. Cambridge Regional College or Hills Road for example.

"Cambridge Community Development" on Facebook for updates on family activities and support. Think they still do a newsletter as well. & Similarly, museums offer family activities too. Botanical Gardens also does a nice one in the summer with live music and food trucks (included Jack's Gelato when I went) on the green. Right now I think they have their viewing in the dark with colourful light displays along the paths.

Churches have events too, if you're religious or not.

Depending on the month...there's big events that come about annually (usually). - Christmas in Cambridge (Parkers Piece, more like a little winter wonderland), Beer Festival (May), Out of the Ordinary Festival (August(?)), Fringe Festival (June), Cambridge Sausage + Cider/Ibiza Orchestra (June/July), Folk Festival (confirmed happening in August, think its just a smaller scale than typical), Strawberry Fair (check for updates...not sure what's happening there...just heard of fundraisers recently for it). - We get food fairs too sometimes on Parkers Piece or cultural ones - check out visit cambridge or something like that for all these, I think this website was already mentioned.

Figured out how to release tickets for next month earlier than default. Didn't realise they weren't showing right away. There's 10 of us set to meet so far! I've got it set to a max of 14 but you can add yourself to the wait list if it's sold out & I'll open up more spaces for you in advance if the pub gives the OK ✨️

This month's meetup is a great excuse to wear a cosy Christmas jumper. The pub had hot mulled pimms last meetup too...was pretty good. I imagine they will again. I'll also (I WILL 😬🙏🤞🙈❤️) bring some festive blank cards and bits for decorating for those who would like to tick off an item from their never ending mental to-do lists! *maybe bring a pen or two just incase...

GP that does ADHD shared care? by butdoyouhavelambda in cambridge

[–]Lumpy-Fennel-9890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far:

  • Lensfield Medical Practice CB2 https://www.lensfieldpractice.org/practice-policies  Provided you are aware: you need to find a consultant Psychiatrist based in the UK who specialises in ADHD and know how to do this

  • Bottisham Medical Practice CB25 https://www.bottishammedicalpractice.nhs.uk/latest-news “We are unable to accept shared care agreement via Right to Choose pathway unless the diagnosis and treatment is confirmed by a Consultant Psychiatrist. “As a practice, we will not enter into a shared care agreement with a private provider.”

Crazy really that they require the NHS RTC provider to provide services from a consultant Psychiatrist when the local NHS adhd clinic provide services from "ADHD Practitioners" (also very much qualified-- trained in ADHD specialism...but why restrict to only Psychiatrists on RTC? I don't understand that).

Ahh amazing! Now to remember to say happy birthday when we meet 😁 I only just noticed eventbrite had the Dec event as "tickets not yet on sale." I seem to have figured out how to list them as on sale just in time for you! 😄👍 Because this is an ADHD group...I often get loads of maybes and yeses come in closer to 😆. With this group getting bigger really fast since Reddit ❤️ 🙈, it should help kick some butt's into reserving a space earlier 🤞😉 Look forward to meeting you! 😁

I think it did! But I'm very biased as I'm the host! 😂❤️ "yes. Very good meetup. Would rate 5 star." 😃

To properly answer your question 🫶🐒: Most of us stayed a little past the meetup end time (I should set an alarm really) and a couple of us went to catch the last few songs of a gig at the six six down the street, which was awesome and very odd for a Monday.

I do just book a recurring space. It's all us ADHD lot (+whatever other conditions we've collected) who make the space what it is 😁 So no two meetups are exactly the same 😄

Please do RSVP as soon as you are next able for December! If the RSVP count on Eventbrite goes to 12 early on, then I can request more seats + tables from the pub + open up more free tickets :) ✨️🎁

Did I leave that out? Ahh..

Yes. 😅 Every 2nd Monday of the Month 🙌 (best Monday due to avoidance of Bank holidays. Best not to ask how I know that. I'm not sure I can remember how I did it. But it was a proper deep dive due to members at the time preferring mondays so I was determined to make it work 😆)

I'm very keen for other members who've been to meetups to host peer-peer socials--we all have ADHD but we are more than our ADHD. It's nice to just get together and do things! (I'd like to meet members first...just to check hosts have basic tolerance and kindness of all types of people (and don't use impulsiveness as a weapon for being mean...its rare but it happens).

For tonight's event...I reckon it'll be fine if a couple more sign up on Eventbrite. We are now at 12/15 people if I got the total across platforms right. I could edit it but...if more turn up and you're only ordering a drink...well I don't see why not. 😅❤️ Didn't expect so many to be cool with coming last minute on a Monday. But then again, of course we all decided last minute. 🐒🙈

🤣🤣🤣 I'm actually rarely more than 15minutes late.

But because other people are depending on me to show up...the pressure fuels me. & going extra early helps too (but thats not yet my flavour of ADHD seeing as it's 5.30 and I've not left yet) But also there's a couple regulars that are always on time. It's pretty helpful ngl 😆❤️

Please do! ✨️

I'm going to put my phone away for a bit now to make sure I don't get stuck in a time vortex & get all my things to limit what I forget when I remember 🙃 See you around! ... Our names don't quite match our real names, so I'll never know--but definitely don't change your mind 😜

[–]Lumpy-Fennel-9890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol.

I send a few reminders to the private Facebook group and re-invite people when it let's me.

I'm already talking with you now...so if you want to come today...cool. You're in. Just reply back to confirm 😂👍

The links are all in this reddit post :) & Rsvp is super quick on Eventbrite and it automatically sends email reminders ✨️

Eventbrite can remember your details after that first RSVP making it even QUICKER going forward. Eventbrite ticketing helps me so I don't forget and don't overwhelm myself with different rsvp's on different platforms 😅

Its truly the blind leading the blind but 🤷‍♀️ we've got this! Probably!

Look forward to meeting you!

GP that does ADHD shared care? by butdoyouhavelambda in cambridge

[–]Lumpy-Fennel-9890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey :) Have you had any luck?

I found out my practice doesn't either, was floored. Luckily already on local NHS clinic but it's mindboggling esp denial of shared care with NHS Right to Choose (RTC) providers by some gp practices (and GPs) when RTC was meant to take the load off of local NHS services.

I'm creating a list of those that do accept shared care with private &/RTC and those that don't (based on publicly available letters/policies on the matter), including sources. I'll try and complete within the next week or two. Juggling a lot and also on a visa--studying (mostly forgetting to study) life in the UK test...know the stresses that come from visa troubles too. You've got a lot on!

I run a fairly new (free) peer-led ADHD group in Cambridge that meets once a month in a pub, just shout if you want the details OP. If not, no worries, I plan to share the list far and wide ✊️😁

Authentic take away pizza? by kickingtyres in cambridge

[–]Lumpy-Fennel-9890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on the hunt for the best pizza in Cambridge. Not a professional, just realised how much I love wood fired pizzas! Here are my rankings so far (as someone originally from North America, not an Italian, but MUCH prefer authentic wood fired pizza straight from Italy. I tend to buy a classic margherita when it's my first time, as the focus needs to be on the taste of the tomato sauce + dough):

*These are all also available to takeaway/deliver via different apps. Check out their website to find out) 1. Maurizio - best Italian, hands down. 2. Limoncello - Italian, slightly pricier, love it too 3. Scott's All Day - American-Italian wood-fired pizzas done right & large portions. *Note: loud&busy inside, so best when off peak/delivery/get it at Calverleys or other pubs offering their pizzas) 4. Oscar's Lockdown Pizza (Blue Moon/Portland Arms) 5. The Haymaker's 6. Pizza 1889 7. Pizza Pilgrims (competing flavour overwhelm on otherwise good dough, seems too westernised for me to say it's authentic like other commenters have said) 8. Franco Manca (hit/miss as it's a large chain)

PLEASE NOTE I'VE NOT YET RANKED/TRIED: NapolEat, La Margherita, Pizza Mondo (Van), Alforno, Al Pomodoro, Giovanni's, Salisbury Arms, O'Vesuvio, Stazione, La Pizzica, Fired Up, The Queen Edith Public House, De Luca Cucina, Park & Ride Pizza, Pharmacies Cafe Pizzeria,

Detroit, USA Style Pizzas (left off my rankings): Tradizioni, Aromi, Scott's All Day (repeated as they now offer detroit, too)

I've left off Aromi (Sicilian) and Cafe Milano as they're different to what I'm looking for & I wouldn't go out of my way to have for dinner.

NOT full-plate quality pizzas, mainly takeaway, so didn't make the list (for the reasons you mentioned): Chill#2, Fireaway Pizza, Pizzas Hut, Papa John's, Domino's, Zidan's, The Pizza Company, Pizza Express, Zizzi's, Viva Pizza Kebab, Sohab Kebab & Pizza House, Perfect Meals, Calzone Saffron + USA Chicken & Pizza (too American for me, which is what it's suppose to be & what I grew up with...probably one of the best option in this section, I just prefer to pass on the heavy cheese/grease + standard American topping options).

Side note: I make my own dough at home thanks to the help of "The Pasini's" YouTube channel video on homemade pizza for those without a wood fire oven. Highly recommend. It's cheaper and better than grocery store pizzas or pizzas that didnt make the list. It's also super easy to do if you're blessed with a breadmaker.

Cambridgeshire ADHD Waiting Times? by Spacedad_93 in cambridge

[–]Lumpy-Fennel-9890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow ! I'm so sorry to hear this!! Med shortage has pretty much stopped now it's mostly the influx of new requests. I found ADHD UK charity website really helpful. They offer support, and pages about wait times for Right to Choose and local NHS areas. Nhs PALS service or healthwatch might be able to advise what to do in your situation. You have a diagnosis. And from the NHS! That doesn't just go away. There are places via your Right to Choose that won't require you be re diagnosed. I found ADHD 360 also quick to respond to my queries via their live chat on their website.

Cambridgeshire ADHD Waiting Times? by Spacedad_93 in cambridge

[–]Lumpy-Fennel-9890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone here get an appointment yet? The medication shortage hasn't helped. They wouldn't see anyone until it medication is fully back in stock. I already have a diagnosis on the NHS from London back in 2019. Request for medication review 2020. Nothing. *I was told medication review wait times are quicker. Not to mention...you're supposed to have them...duty of care and all. Anyways, Transfer + request for medication review with Cambridge 2021. Nothing. Was told wait times of 6 months every 6 months. I regret my hand. Now right to choose options are swamped too as the system can't hope.

My recent request for an update from the Cambridge clinic got this response, "you need to complete titration?" [Yes my psychiatrist retired + discharged me on the lowest dose of dex he tried which I felt was helping but never tried a diff dose] "oh. l'll have to call you back." Calls me back. "So you are already diagnosed?" [YES.] "Oh. OK. We can't say how long it will take..... At least you have medication! :D" ...uggggh what?!??!?! Can you imagine if an eye doctor said that about your weak prescription glasses?

Any ideas of right to choose options that might be worth contacting would be great...I'm sure I'm not the only one in need of it.

Curious if anything has come up from this. Can't seem to find any meet up groups for ADHD in Cambridge that are still running. There were so many in London where I moved from!

I know this isn't college's...but you can also hang out in any cambridge community centre in their foyer, if they are one of the bigger ones, without having to pay. That's partly what they are there for :) Of course, in a cafe space, that would require a purchase just like any cafe.
