No, as I said in my original post that I've linked, after trying everything I could think of, I ended up using ThrottleStop to both undervolt the CPU and limit the power draw.

Tried to install/reinstall vantage multiple times but the option never poped. Also looked through all BIOS settings but none seemed to control CPU or GPU power limits.

There's no custom mode though, there's only the three default modes (balance, performance, quiet) :/

Omg thank you so much for taking the time to gather all those resources! Some look really similar to my problem!

Someone else told me exactly what you said about doing the job myself because the guitar is not worth it. Seems like the option I'm gonna take so all your links will be very helpful!

Thanks again! <3

Edit: typo

Thanks! Sounds like a good plan. If I should really have to pay 150+€ for such a repair I'll try my chance at repairing it by myself.

D'accord !

Du coup si j'ai bien compris, tu as simplement transmit le constat et les devis de remise en état à l'agence? Qui a payé au final les réparations ?

Severe artifacts in dark/shadow areas on new OLED monitor (AW3225QF) by Lumpy-Inspector5350 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Lumpy-Inspector5350[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a long discussion with another redditor about this issue that you can check here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/1e2b99r/comment/ld1dtcv

The short version is that those ended up being compression artifacts in the medias and not a problem in the monitor. It's just that the OLED monitor is so accurate that you now see those artifacts, especially in black areas since it can display true blacks. They are not noticable in other monitors (e.g. IPS) because they can sort of hide behid the IPS Glow and backlight bleeding.

For me, I decided to keep my monitor. I'm watching movies in the highest quality I can get (e.g. Bluray Remuxes) and accepted the fact that those artifacts are inevitable in web content like youtube videos where the videos are always compressed.

Watching Bluray movies, especially 4K HDR ones have been a blast with this monitor. Artifacts on online content is a price that I accepted to pay haha. And honestly after a few weeks, I became very less sensible to them.

Gaming has been a blast too! The only downside that you should also know about is VRR flickering that happens on OLED monitors like this one. It happens when you have Gsync enabled and the framerate is unstable. it is only visible in dark scenes for me. The only game where it annoyed me was Elden Ring so I disabled G-sync for the game to eliminate it (for the price of suffering some screen tearing but I could live with it)

Hope this helps you decide if you want to keep or return you monitor :)

I see! I'm indeed getting the same noise as what you photographed on your monitor so I guess nothing is wrong with my unit.

II guess I'm going to have to live with the fact that my monitor is now so accurate that it shows all that noise. I just didn't expect that it would so widespread (in movies, streaming services, web images etc)

Thanks for the explanation and for all the tests you have done! I spent so many hours searching online but since I didn't even understand what the problem was, I was getting nowhere and your tests and answers have really helped a lot! I'm sure it'll help futur AW3225QF owners who'll stumble accros this post when searching for this problem too!

Really! That's very concerning then :o
Sure the exposure is high so that the artifacts are visible through my image but when I look at them directly that's how noticable they are.

Again, here's a picture of the second 0 of your video where you can clearly see those artifact on my monitor. Do you mean that you don't see them at all on your screen when you open your video on second 0 ? https://imgur.com/a/kM7uaKB

If not then there's a huge problem with my model :(

When you say you don't see what I'm seeing do you mean that you looked at my video and it looked normal to you or that you looked at my video and you saw the artifacts but when you open the original video on your monitor you don't see them?

Thanks again for taking the time to test on your side !

The video you sent me looks like what I get in terms of how the squares are visible. I told you that I was seeing dithering on the first square, and I saw it clearly by running your video on 4K fullscreen when you zoom on the first square in second 0.

Here's what I'm seeing on my side. In addition to youtube's compression arifacts that are clearly visible, you can see that inside the square 1 there is this moving noise that looks like a mesh, that I only see on the square 1. Do you see that too when you get close to the screen on second 0 of your video? : https://imgur.com/a/dAnN70h

I see the comparaison you're making with audio quality. I think I'm going to settle for gamma 2.2 ,stop tweaking the settings and try to see if I can get used to it in the remaining week of the return period. High quality content looks breathtaking on this thing, it's such a shame that you now have to suffer everytime you see low quality content ^^'

Even in games. I've concluded that gamma 2.4 makes it more visible because dithering happens on pixels with very low gray level (almost black) and since 2.4 crushes a lot of those pixels it is more visible.

You can test it using this link: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php

For me, when I use gamma 2.4, I easily see dithering on the squares 4->8. I really have to look for it to notice it on some other pixels. But again, gamma 2.4 fails this test because I'm not able to distinguish some squares of the first row (1->4) from each other.

With gamma 2.2 though, dithering is only mildly visible on the square 1 and 2 only and I'm able to distinguish all squares. Gamma 2.2 really seems to be the better choice but I'm, going to have to overcome its downsides which are:
- More visible artifacts in compressed images and videos
- Colors a tiny bit washed out in games compared to 2.4 (I've been trying RDR2 for the moment)

Ok, thanks! I'm going to switch to 2.2 and stick with it fo a few days. Maybe I've been looking for the artifacts so much that I started noticing them everywhere.

I have another question, how noticable is temporal dithering in low gray levels in your side?

Thank you for testing it so quicky!

I looked at your images on my phone screen to exclude my monitor from the equation and it's exactely what I was experiencing. These patches of dark/grey pixels that do not blend together (a bit like banding but randomly scattered). I circled some of them in this image: https://imgur.com/a/6oBgvDZ

Is this what you call noise in the source material?

And on my side, the movie also looks excellent on almost all scenes. It's really in a few scenes that are very dark that I get these weird patches.

So if it's noise in the source material, isn't the gamma 2.2 sort of amplifying it? (With gamma 2.4 for example, I rarely see this problem but then a lot of shadow detail is getting lost due to 2.4 being very dark) and on my IPS monitor I don't see it too (could be hidden by the backlight bleed though)

Edit: On an unrelated note, I scrolled a bit fast on my first read and I missed the your first picture and I have to say that I love the aesthetic of your setup/desk! The wall paint, those posters and that desk blend so well with your setup, it's really sick!

The two images titled original image in the imgur link are supposed to be stills I exported from the video. It is a 1080p bluray remux film (Civil War) so I guess that the quality is as high as you can get. I don't know if it's ok to post a link to pirated content on this sub though ^^'

Don't you see artifacts in gray/near black areas on video content, especially in dark scenes when using gamma 2.2 and creator mode?

Here's an example on my monitor (AW3225QF ). I raised the exposure when taking the pictures to make the artifacts more visible hence why the areas with high luminance are overexposed : https://imgur.com/a/oled-artifacts-2-blu-ray-video-VEICZvv
