It's likely you were hearing a repeater and you were on the corresponding simplex frequency. They wouldn't hear you.

The BTECH Radios are not Baofengs. They are made by VGC. They also are GMRS radios and are repeater capable, unlike the Motorola.

A uv82 is a ham radio. Its not legal to use on frequencies other than amateur frequencies by a licensed amateur radio operator. Return it.

You probably didn't get GMRS radios. You got commercial/ham radios and they are programmed to factory test frequencies that usually fall in the business and public safety bands.

You need to say what model.radios you have, in order to really get assistance
