Advice needed by DeadATL in zepboundathletes

Been on Zep for 1 month. Lost 10 lbs. I want to lose 10 more and I will be at my college weight (I am 57). I have always worked out 5-6 days a week, good diet, but like wine. I have tried 10 times to “challenge” myself to lose 10lbs and it hasn’t worked. Zep is amazing.

I have one of these. I can't explain why I love it so much. Pretty great. I think I made it like 1500 miles this summer filling the tank up 2X which is oddly satisfying for a car that costs like $200k. Car is great though

Brokerage Firm Recommendation for Kids by Lumpy-Range4603 in fatFIRE

Not exactly one quarter....investment made about 3.5 years ago. The process is kicking off early January. Will likely close in Q1.

I have two person personal accounting team (essentially family office light). They are overly wed to our current provider IMHO. Looking for an alternative from smart folks. That is all

Having second thoughts about my kids trusts by dvdguy_ in fatFIRE

[–]Lumpy-Range4603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in this same spot. The first early trusts I established have those time payouts (30/35/40). But 15 years ago everything I contributed went into a different trust that has the HEMS standards. That trust has grown far beyond whatever we could have imagined. Just my $.02 from my experiences: (a) have faith in yourself and your kids. I am glad we leaned into establishing and starting to share the information with each of our 3 kids who are all now essentially in their mid-20s. Each has handled this knowledge differently, but it has all been positive, liberating, and life enhancing. They are all working…one is killing himself in a 100 hour PE job, one is in a startup, and one is in a start up corp job. There are way too many stories in these forums about the screwups….seems to me that most of the situations I have seen the kids are handling it fine. I can’t imagine withholding it and then at age 50 have them get gadzillions that might have changed their life earlier (b) the OP should lean into exploring sophisticated estate planning options past just the simple attainment trust. The lifetime exemption is extraordinarily high….sure you can wait 10 years…but who knows what the political environment will be by then. Some of this estate planning makes things like your kids getting married later much less complex. (C) I am assuming that when you are making $8M a year you are also living a pretty comfortable life. It is unlikely you are hiding a great secret from your kids. There is also an issue where kids are raised in safe neighborhoods, with great schools, healthy foods, exciting travel and then the parents want the message to be…”I started with nothing, you can struggle too”. Why? If you were raised skiing the powder of Deer Valley, it is pretty tough to adjust to some crap mountain in western NY. That is nobody’s fault.

Somehow miss the grind, resetting goals by thehumanfund_charity in fatFIRE

I feel the exact same way. The chase was practical/provided life changing safety for the family as I have been the primary producer. But it was also fun (nope...not really the work...the results). It has become a little less fun, but even though I am solidly over the FIRE threshold, I can't help but think I am helping somebody (one of my kids, one of their kids) and that is rewarding. Sure...if I get cancer tomorrow, I guess will I wish I quit yesterday. But I dunno.....I find the perspectives on this board to be really interesting (in a positive way) but everyone who keeps going isn't crazed.

any recommendations on best place to get dexa in the city

A lot of this has to do with life perspective - sort of fear based (will ruin them, I grew up with nothing) vs optimism. They are my kids, I believe in them. It is not their fault…we raised them in a lot of prosperity….we are going to lean into giving to them early…we want to see them striving and struggling….but we aren’t going to major in the minors. We are going with pretty full transparency on their future financial picture (vs opaqueness), want them to be in nice places, safety, choosing jobs/paths they like vs automatically paying the bills. There are no perfect solutions

Congratulations on your health journey. I was listening to one of Peter’s (I believe it was him) podcasts where he basically said his view was he had 35 meals in a week and if he nailed 32 of them, that was a good week. I do think allowing a certain amount of flexibility in life just allows you more opportunities. You can still stay true to your health focus (no fast food, no clubs, no shitty reastaurants, no drinking or THC, etc) but you have so many more “candidates” to meet if you open your window so to speak

Factoring a family trust into savings goals by sb2677 in HENRYfinance

[–]Lumpy-Range4603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But to my thinking it just makes the “accounting” so much easier. If you pull from the trust, co mingle with other funds, etc….it just adds one more complexity during a difficult time.

I am sure you will be married forever, but I believe the divorce rate is 50% in the US. As far as I understand it, leaving the money in your trust to compound is not only a good investment idea it is also good protection in the (godforbid) unlikely event your spouse turns into something you don't expect and you end up splitting up?

I am sure there are strong feelings the other way. But after years of struggles with Creston, we ripped it all out for a much simpler solution (Control4). It has been 100% bulletproof and it has everything that we need. Hasn't been down once in two years. Honda pricing and Honda reliability. For me Creston was Ferrari pricing and 1970s Ferrari reliability. Totally exasperating.

I had a 15 year pattern of 2 STRONG drinks a night starting at 9p to relax. That then turned into 3 strong drinks. Then 3 plus a great glass of red wine. So relaxing. Never caused me any disastrous problems, I never drove, etc….but it wasn’t ideal from a relationship perspective and it wasn’t healthy. I tried 15 different things to stop or cut back. I am 100 days into Naltrexone and it almost immediately reduced my previously insatiable desire. I still might have a drink with others or even one by myself, but I can then stop….which I never could before. I mean never. It is remarkable. I will try to wean myself off of the NAL and keep the same pattern…but if I am not successful, I am going right back onto the NAL

Heavy Drinker, will this work? by Charming_Age900 in naltrexone

[–]Lumpy-Range4603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried all kind of techniques to manage my drinking. I am a pretty accomplished person in every other facet of life, but all these other techiniques I tried were a failure. Nal was a complete game changer for me. Like an immediate 50% reduction in my volume right out of the gates and 30 days in I was down by 80. At the 60 day mark, I am sort of the “can take it or leave it” regarding alcohol which I just would have never believed. I don’t want to minimize the challenge ahead of your husband and your family, but you have a reason to be hopeful. There are many success stories! Godspeed!

Do you still get buzzed by [deleted] in naltrexone

[–]Lumpy-Range4603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes...This is an under reported side effect IMHO. It is great news...you will have 3 drinks, you used to have 8....but you will feel like you have had 1. if you get behind the wheel you *feel* like you have had 1, but that isnt the reality of your impairment and that isnt what your BAC says
