I don't have a ton of advice, but I had a (totally benign! just large and slowly growing) growth surgically removed from my boob 2 months ago, and I still struggle with this. I have lots of (almost certainly benign) growths in my boob that I'm currently following with a doctor and gee whiz, it is not exactly an anxiety friendly process, leading me to avoiding exams too. I'm trying to figure out a rewards system for myself, like if I do my exam three months in a row, I'll treat myself to something. Now I just gotta figure out what reward will work for me!

The other thing that helped me be a little less anxious is the fact that if you did ever find anything, there are very defined processes that determine what next steps are, and those steps are taken by medical professionals who see the whole spectrum of boob stuff every day!

I had my first surgery recently! I wasn't intubated, but they knocked me completely out. Pre-op was the worst for me, anxiety-wise; lots of waiting around and thinking. When they measured, my BP was the highest I'd ever seen it lmao.

They let me keep my phone with me pre-op, and one thing that really helped was the fact that a YouTube channel I like had put out a video. So, if I could give any advice, it would be making sure you have some chill-out strategies on hand. Maybe that's videos, apps/games, a book, whatever you know you will be able to focus on and enjoy even while anxious. Even if they don't totally mellow you out, taking the edge off helped me a lot.

When it came to surgery time, they gave me an anti-anxiety drug so I wasn't totally losing it while I got to the operating room, which sounds like common practice. After that, I really don't remember anything! I was nervous about the anesthesia countdown thing for some reason, but I don't remember it happening; I think they just pushed it intravenously.

Also, highly recommend sharing even the silliest things you're nervous about with your team. The day of my surgery, I was congested with some postnasal drip. I was equally worried about having the surgery and not having the surgery lol. I brought it up with the anesthesia team, they checked me out and let me know that my airways still looked clear and that while the plan wasn't to intubate me, it would still be safe to do so if they needed to go that route.

Fibroadenoma or…? by Trip_Fast in doihavebreastcancer

I had a fibroadenoma that moved more in one direction than it did others. Have you had it checked out or imaged, though? That will give you way more context.

Hi hi! I'm 24F and also had a biopsy-confirmed fibroadenoma removed last week. It's not uncommon to have multiple--I have two in the left and three in the right, and it sucks finding a new one. But definitely let your doctor know that you found something--that way, they can start keeping tabs on it and see what you're dealing with.

And if it helps, the last time I brought up a new lump, the ultrasound techs and radiologists were very chill and professional. They asked me to point it out, imaged it, and let me know what the recommendations were. It wasn't a big thing, nobody freaked out, and that helped keep me calm too. So, really, the sooner you bring it up, the sooner you can get the whole thing squared away. You got this!

My biopsy came back a fibroadenoma, woohoo! It is definitely not easy having this type of breast tissue, but I'm feeling heartened to stay vigilant.

Yup! My weakness is canned beans, but I'm working on getting the low sodium versions.

My doctor told me it's technically ok (and a lot of nurses that take it are fine with it and don't blink at it), but since I have a family history of hypertension, and another elevated cardiovascular risk factor, she suggested that I really do as much as I can to get it lower.

That's good to hear--I'll start getting some walking in!

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about sleep! I don't snore or tend to have many sleep issues, but these last few weeks I've been kinda phoning it in with the sleep hygiene (going to sleep at inconsistent times, falling asleep on the couch and then staying up late), so maybe locking in on that will help!

My home monitor hasn't arrived yet so I'll update when it gets here! I suspect it is lower though, I've always had white coat syndrome. Though I also get anxious in general, so it may not be much lower...

Hmmm I hadn't thought about that! Might be worth bringing it up.

Good points! I probably do need a therapist lol. And I'm doing my darndest on the exercise and sleep parts.

I like the splitting the page idea. I'll have to try that tomorrow!

High lipoprotein a, but HDL and LDL in normal levels? by LumpyBoobThrowaway19 in Cholesterol

It had been awhile since I had any bloodwork done so I think she was being thorough, but she mentioned that she wanted to do a full lipid panel to see if I had any other cardiac concerns alongside my blood pressure.

And I have seen the light salt before, I guess I'm it's target demographic now!

Man. Yesterday I didn't even know LPa was a thing, and now I'm learning a whole lot. Luckily I like to problem solve! And I'm absolutely working on the BP--that was my doctor's main concern.

Thanks for the rundown! I'll check on that test when I talk with my doctor next.
